  1. And this means we will get more of the same next year- for better or worse.
  2. From Arash Madani on 3downnation: Madani: You can’t do that Mike O’Shea Posted on November 14, 2016 by Arash Madani // 5 Comments You just can’t do that, Mike O’Shea. You just can’t. You can’t send your kicker out – no matter how lights out, how dominant, how game-changing he’s been – for a 61-yard field goal attempt, with your season on the line. You have third and four with 36 seconds left? You go for it. You send out your quarterback, who turned your season around and had completed eight of his last nine throws. You send out your tailback, who remains one of the league’s most bruising threats, who rarely gets taken down on the first smack of contact. You have Ryan Smith, money all afternoon. You went out and gave Weston Dressler big money in the off-season for moments like these. You take one glance over and you see that for the first time this season Justin Medlock has reached for a tee, and you have to realize this is going to go awry. You know in your heart of hearts when you see that, even this ask is too much for the best kicker the CFL has had since Lawrence Tynes had a cup of coffee here more than a decade ago. You make that decision, and here’s what happens: going into the off-season suddenly your players may have doubt for the first time. You now allow them to wonder that perhaps the stoic, unwavering coach, who hadn’t flinched in three years suddenly panicked.
  3. I think its pretty obvious where I am going with this. I believe that O'Shea has shown that he does not have the good judgement to take the team to the Cup. Three years into his tenure and he makes a very bad rookie decision that costs the team the victory. Yes, the players love him, but have we not heard the same laments after each head coach has been gassed for good reason?
  4. Was there not a post-game interview where Medlock said that he'd told O'Shea that his max was 57 yards?
  5. Given the laws of momentum and the spit-second in which the decision had to be made, I suggest that there was really no viable option.
  6. But how many TDs are going to be prevented by receivers suddenly becoming shy in Loffler's territory?
  7. How dare you inject reality into this!! The bottom line: coaches are hired and paid to make the right decisions. O'Shea made the decision which failed and cost the team the game and the season. Richie is responsible for the mistakes of his charges, and so is O'Shea.
  8. If I'm the DC, I would tell Loffler to make the hit every time and to heck with the penalty if it is called.
  9. It frosts me that, while we really had a low percentage chance of beating Calgary, we had BC by the short hairs and let them go through brain cramps.
  10. Hint: his number is 2 and he played like #2 for a good deal of the season. And #38 shouldn't expect kudos either.
  11. I disagree. Good/great players make the plays when it counts and good/great coaches make the right calls when it counts. After a deathbed repentance, O'Shea finally inserted Nichols who carried the team to their win streak in mid-season. Yes, it coincided with upgrades to the O-line, but it ought to have happened a lot sooner. I am sure others can provide additional examples from this season and the past two. I do not think O'Shea has merited an extension.
  12. Replace Wild and Bass (and both have been very good in the past); find a dominant rush end; add a premier Canuck receiver and tie the can to O'Shea and Richie. Oh, and find a QB who can challenge Nichols for the starter role.
  13. Yup. O'Shea's decision cannot be attributed to his being a rookie head coach. When you add this to his stubbornness about playing Willy over and over this year when it was obvious to all and sundry that Willy just didn't have it any more and the whole team (except O'Shea) knew it, then O'Shea's judgment comes very much into question.
  14. I was referring to the past dozen years or so.
  15. I don't think the anger will subside much over the next while. We've been here too many times, and this one really chafes because we have the horses to do better. The problems have been there off and on all season but never really fixed; the "bend, then break" defense has not been able to adapt very well, our linebacking is very suspect, the D-line did not get good pressure on the opposing QB consistently, and we have had too many stretches where the offence was AWOL. I had reservations about LaPolice but he has redeemed himself in my eyes, but O'Shea and Hall have not. The O-line is solid, Nichols is good enough, at least for now, and the running game and receivers are good enough, but we still need a top-flight Canuck receiver.
  16. I am definitely cheering for the 'Cats. They are underdogs with a lot of missing players and I am not a fan of Maas. A long shot, but these things do happen every now and again.
  17. I expect BC to try to run against the Bombers a lot, at least at first. Jennings threw up what, 5 interceptions in the last two games? Should the Lions be successful, the secondary will have to have to close up to the line of scrimmage and the Bomber linebackers will not be able to drop into coverage. Then Jennings can shred the Bombers' secondary. I do not think we have the best set of linebackers.
  18. The CFL has always been in a state of near-crisis. Nothing new here.
  19. Harris may not be as effective as hoped- BC's linebackers may be the best in the league and their D-line is not bad, either. I think their secondary is vulnerable and I do wish that we had Gurley in the lineup instead of Smith.
  20. Great. Now we just have to stifle Sinkfield and Ryan Whatisname and we're gold. Apparently Gore has ongoing concussion problems and his career may be over.
  21. Absolutely agree that we cannot let Jennings get into a rhythm and/or get ahead by more than a field goal or so. Our offence is not potent enough to play catch-up every game. If Jennings get rattled or frustrated, he will likely start trying to force the ball.
  22. McDuffie and Fogg are both quick and fast but Fogg seems to have that spidey sense to find the holes.
