3 turds plus cranky honker don’t say roster management edition
Tracker replied to wbbfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Exactly right. We can criticize our NAT guys, but we sure don't have the IMPs to make a noticeable difference if we were to change that up. Our DL is a mess and it doesn't predicate at all on how many reps Jake Thomas is getting. That is a symptom of the problem not the cause. Vaughters has underperformed his contract as well. RIght now we are not getting reliable play from anyone on our DL and a good portion of our secondary. Exactly. The problem isn't that we are sitting massively talented players and refusing to play them. The problem is we lack talent across the board on the DL. Disagree. Damned few players walk onto the field for the first time and dominate. Most need time to get up to speed and learn to mesh with the other players and getting a few reps does not accomplish that. -
What???? Lofton at LT???? And Mitchell to PR???? Are they hoping someone will claim him? The only upgrade I can see is J. Jones backing up WLB but he otta be in the middle. Kramdi is quick enough to be useful at safety but he has a terrible time reading plays well enough to be in the right place at the right time. All this smacks of desperation.

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

OK...maybe two CFL receivers? -
Walters impressed me as being intelligent and made the transition from coordinator to GM seamlessly and well, so he is not blind or stupid. He must have had a heart-to-heart with O'Shea prior to the start of the season and laid out clear expectations about should and should not happen again. Thus, O'Shea has to know that the same old, same old would not be good enough. Sooooo....if O'Shea either has tacit or overt blessing for business as usual, OR this is a middle-finger salute to Walters.

I suggest that so long as O'Shea is in charge, the player changes will be token changes unless driven by necessity.

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

One would absolutely expect Streveler's INT and even reception numbers to be worse than Collaros' stats due to lack of first-unit reps. That Streveler went to Stearns often and successfully last game was probably a reflection of them working out together as second-team players. That Streveler did as well as he did in a losing cause is encouraging. -
If another loss on Friday, even an ugly loss, doesn't provide the impetus for coaching changes, then we are likely strapped in for the rest of the year with only a dim prospect of making the western playoffs.

Only if we remain status quo in coaching. -
Nope

O'Shea has repeatedly and obviously proven himself to be rigid in opposing productive change. He and possibly Walters as an enabler are the obstacles to a rapid turnaround. My read of O'Shea's personality is that he will not accede to change and if ordered to make the needed changes, he will resist and/or quit. If Walters refuses to give him an ultimatum, we may have a two-for-one transaction as I don't think Wade Miller will put up with that.

Bad game for the Lions, but great for CFL fans and the TiCats. -
You don't get better by curing half the problems. Bridges, Kolankowski, Thomas, Tony Jones and probably Kramdi (who has some market value) all need to be moved out STAT.
-
Seems to me that no matter what, the Bombers are scrooged for this season. The main focus is likely to be minimizing the damage to the team and the confidence of the fans. I may well be wrong, but the only way for Walters to avoid the guillotine is for the team to walk on water after O'Shea is canned and/or have a helluva game plan for next season. Either scenario seems a long shot at best. I cannot see Collaros in the Bombers' future and Streveler is iffy.

Collaros has hit his ceiling and is on the way down. Streveler has yet to show us how good he can be post-rehab. He may or may not be the future, but we gotta find out. -
At the risk of repeating myself, Streveler deserves a chance to play himself into the starting role or off the team, and he has not been given that opportunity.
-
Streveler's awkward throwing while rolling out may not have been completely his fault. The Bomber o-line was being overrun and either he or Jackson may have decided that staying in the pocket and getting set was not a good idea. If any incoming GM who replaces Walters re-ups O'Shea, that would be a very bad omen.
-
Disagree. For starters, Schoen may not be his old self this season or ever, for that matter, and even if/when Pokey returns, so long as a sub-par Collaros keeps getting put out there, nothing will change. Furthermore, none of this will address the defence which is more theoretical than actual. The defensive backfield is inadequate and the players who are competent cannot compensate for those who are blindingly horrible. Then there are the festering boils- Kolankowski and Thomas. Beyond all these issues, I see that the biggest liability is on the sidelines. Not only is O'Shea afflicted with rigid thinking, his choices of coordinators are highly questionable. These issues are neither new nor invisible and if we yahoos in this forum can and have seen them ad nauseum, the players who are living through this know it a lot more acutely. The players who c are have to be getting very tired and PO'd that coaching/management are blithely ignoring the problems and are doing damned near nothing about them. Why bust your ass if you know you are going to not only lose but be embarrassed? Blinded by his own ego. Zach was his (sign) now-usual self, and Streveler looked good enough to start the next game. But unless Collaros is comatose, he won't.

In the Free Press article online this morning, O'Shea was quoted as saying that he was not concerned at all and that it was easy to see and fix the problem(s). Move along now, nothing to see here.
-
And that is the problem in a nutshell.

They can hear the tumbrels approaching.

The Roman army won a lot of battles, but when they were beaten, the ranks of the soldiers, officers included, had one in ten executed- decimated. You get more with a kind word and a gun than you do with a kind word.
