  1. Hopefully this starts a new trend here. I have misused the appeal to Authority fallacy. I was wrong. Maybe some Willy fans will follow my lead.
  2. Also Known as: Fallacious Appeal to Authority, Misuse of Authority, Irrelevant Authority, Questionable Authority, Inappropriate Authority, Ad Verecundiam Description of Appeal to Authority An Appeal to Authority is a fallacy with the following form: Person A is (claimed to be) an authority on subject S. Person A makes claim C about subject S. Therefore, C is true.
  3. Reads like someone who needs to use google. An appeal to authority is when your argument for something being correct is a person in a position of perceived authority agrees with you.
  4. Ya to me this kind of sums up the issue. When I made a list on paper just now to see where I ranked QBs, I find names like Franklin and Jennings and Lulay nearish to where I have Nichols. With Willy not far behind from them. I have a tough time seeing any of those options available, and then, at a reasonable price. The only way this happens is if MOS and company feel that Bennett or Davis can be a reliable #2. I don't see that being the case.
  5. 1) I don't consider Nichols to be an "effective starter" just yet. His best role is still that of backup, but he's certainly a better option than Willy. If I had to make a list of QB's by skill, Nichols is probably very near the #9 slot and perhaps a bit further. Willy is 13 or 14 at best. 2) Behave better? You mean just agree? Mike decided to add a little zest to his post with his "chuckle" comment. Seems like a cool story bro is hardly an escalation from that.
  6. If your argument rests on logical fallacies (appeals to authority) you're going to have a tougher time convincing me. First off, Milanovich may intend to trade for Willy and restructure his contract. So even there your appeal to authority is shaky at best. Further, MOS is the current coach of this guy. Do you really expect him to come out and say something like "Willy will never be a starter again?". Get real. Lots of professionals get paid and make huge mistakes on 'their guys'. Look at Pavelec and Chevy. By all accounts Chevy seems to be a fairly decent GM but when it comes to Pavelec his blind spot is so bad you could drive a bus past it.
  7. It's not an emotional opinion. I was against Willy coming here, but after his hot start my opinion was turned and I thought, 'sweet, a great qb'. Since that 5-1 start Willy has shown me he's not a good starting Qb. He lacks the on field intelligence to quickly make reads and get rid of the ball in a timely fashion. Drew Willy's starting record as a CFL qb is all the evidence needed to form a reasonable opinion that he's not starter material.
  8. You chuckle at the idea that a near 30 year who's never been a proven winner -anywhere- will suddenly be an effective starter in his older age.... is a silly idea to some? Cool story, bro.
  9. If Toronto wants to take Willy off our hands they still have to make it worth our while. I don't think for a second that Drew will ever be a good starting QB but if I had to pick a backup QB, him, or, the field for our current stable of Qb's I take Willy. We can focus on getting a cheaper backup in the offseason.
  10. Look, I think you are a reasonable person and a poster, but this isn't quite true. I've posted clear evidence of certain posters who reacted in totally different ways after our Hamilton wins. When Willy won, there's a small group of vocal posters who talked about everything but the offense. It was all praise for the D and celebrations. After our Hamilton win with Nichols, however, it was a much more guarded celebration. Lots of talk about the offense. Those threads are still there and exist, and I invite you to read them to see the difference. I very much agree QB's get too much blame and praise, but the QB position is by far the most important and influential in the league. Our records with Willy and Nichols aren't solely the story of the Qb's, I agree. But to suggest that plugging in Willy would have us also on a 4 game win streak is a stretch. He just isn't confident enough or "QB" smart enough to do it.
  11. This is honest to god so close to truth its disturbing. The thing is, a lot of folks just dont want to be wrong. You had a lot of posters going on and on about how it wasn't Willys fault and that he was the eventual answer. So Nichols coming in and winning 4 in a row with LESS starters than Willy is bound to put people in a bind; do I want to admit I was wrong and reconsider my preconceived notions about our QB's or do I double down like Trump? The answer, for a lot of posters here, has been to post Trumpishly.
  12. There's no agreement or disagreement to be had. In each of his first 2 years Wily missed multiple games due to injury. You can't debate whats already happened and is fact.
  13. This is false and you know it to be false. In the next sentence you agree with but suggest it's the fault of the other players. Willy has had injury problems since year 1.
  14. no brainer deal for us to do this. why would Saskatchewan do this? Willy is just as prone to injury as Durant and isn't nearly as good.
  15. I think he meant 9 games as in, 6 more with Nichols as starter.
  16. Labour day has been a nightmare in Regina for basically my entire life. It'd be so cathartic for this team and us fans to go into Regina and trash the place.
  17. How can you not care? lol? Guess what, if the Bombers go back into the tank people are going to be extra pissed off from being given a taste of decent football. Do I think this is real as in, we will run the table and only lose 3-4 games rest of the season? Prob not. But I think we have a decent shot at the playoffs now and that's exciting. I don't want to that go back into the toilet. I would say I'm 70% convinced we will make the playoffs, just on the strength of our D alone. I'm only 30% convinced we can have any hope of hosting a home playoff game. For this to be the case a lot of stuff has to go our way. But hell if we host a playoff game I'll make the trip for that.
  18. See, this is where you're incorrect. Go back to the first Hamilton win. WBB fan makes ZERO mention of Willy or the D winning it for us. Not a one. We don't have to try and imagine scenarios here, or, really, do much guess work. It's all there in plain view. Nichols has a rough start to the game but he recovered and made some really nice passes and threw some great touchdown passes last night. Not his best game but we won.
  19. 2 bye weeks now? Holy smokes. Ya, that's pretty good then. Very well timed bye weeks
  20. The irony of this post is so far off the charts its ridiculous. When people were critical of Willy earlier in the year it was the total opposite. It's not 1 player, etc etc.
  21. This criticism didn't occur from you when Willy was our Qb. That's just a fact.
  22. Ill agree with this part of your post, and disagree with the bottom part. Nichols confidence in the pocket and ability to throw medium to deep passes is clearly the difference between our two qbs As far as you saying that he's our backup and coming in and doing the job, I think it's pretty clear at this point there is no 'clear #1' for our club. Nichols has done too good a job as the starter.
  23. When I first saw the schedule I kind of wished it was further into the season. I think the perfect time for a bye week in the CFL is with 3 or so game to be played after. Get a nice break late season to ramp up for the post season. But considering all the banged up players we have already... can't really complain.
  24. I think it depends on how long this streak goes. Nichols wont have the same leash that Willy got, that's for sure.
  25. Whatever you consider him to be, he's 3-0 and he's scoring points. I'll take it. If this is average, sign me up.
