but you are ok with giving a terrorist 10.5 million dollars based upon that?

this is what sticks in my craw most definitely.  nobody knows, everything is in a grey area.  why give someone 10.5 million dollars (which may or may not stay here in canada or get funnelled right back into Al-Queda as his father was a financier for said group) on a maybe/possibly/etc.

I do understand that he was wronged and I get that he was "just a boy" but we've tried 15 year olds as adults in extreme circumstances (this is pretty f'in extreme) so why wouldn't that have been a consideration here?

this whole fiasco stinks.  I hate that the country I love now looks like we cater to terrorists.  I hate that my tax dollars at work are going towards this and this kangaroo court and I despise the fact that on an international stage, our PM looks like a pushover.

Indigenous Jack Jacobs doesn't quite have the same ring to it,  so probably won't be included. I don't believe anyone else has had a nickname included on their ROH induction either

I imagine we did, to some point, want him to stay there.  He was an enemy combatant and a possible fountain of useful info, what with his father and family having close ties to known terrorist groups.

    I don't buy the child B.S.
No 15 (just short of 16) year old is a child.  That is a young man, a young adult.
But please, keep on siding with a young man who attacked and killed one our allies......a service member of our closest and greatest ally.

*EDIT*  The age minimum of 18 has not even been accepted by the entire international community yet.  As of 2000 it was still 15 in many places.

Whoa dude, you have some cooling down to do son.
At the end of the day, the government was under no obligation to pay Khadr anything.  There was no money mentioned in the ruling about his rights being violated.
His reward is being allowed to come back to Canada a free man.  Something he didn't deserve but received anyways.  What's most sick about this whole thing is that our own troops that come back with a lost limb can only receive a max payout of $300k, and this terrorist gets millions.

    It's Game Day!
7:30 PM start.  Ricky Ray and Marc Trestman bring the Argos into town to challenge the Bombers.
Forecast is sunny and 22.  Perfect evening for football.
Jack Jacobs will be the 2017 player being added to the Ring of Honour.  His name will be going up tonight.
    Time for another win.

That article is all about whether he threw the grenade or not.  But that's only one part of the issue, although it does seem to get the most focus.
Whether he threw it or not, he abandoned Canada and joined a terrorist organization and almost certainly participated in activities such as bomb-building and assisting the terrorist organization in other ways.
I think that's what more people are upset about.  The fact that he was a terrorist and he has now received an apology and large cash settlement from the taxpayer in a shady backroom deal.  Now, it is obviously more nuanced than that, since he was young and impressionable and you may even argue brainwashed.  But you still can't expect that situation to sit well with most people.

yes this is rapidly falling apart.  We have diametrically opposed views that aren't going to change, no matter what is stated or said.  It's amazing to me that this discussion once again seems to be falling on political views, instead of on the actual situation.  If you take a step back, it's obvious that this was a sickening outcome.  A bad person was paid out secretly to deliberately screw over the widow.  That to me is inexcusable.
As there is no point continuing this discussion with those that seem committed to defending a murdering Taliban scumbag, I'm out.

    Interesting study here.
The average low-wage worker in Seattle actually lost $125 per month when the government pushed through an aggressively high minimum wage.
Could be a good lesson for all the socialists here in Manitoba currently advocating for a ridiculous minimum wage of $15/hour.

WINNIPEG, MB – Since the story broke, Justin Trudeau has been lying about the disgusting $10.5 million taxpayer-funded payment to admitted terrorist Omar Khadr.
First, Trudeau said there was a “process” that was “ongoing,” even though his government was finalizing the payment.
Then, his government tried to blame Stephen Harper, even though rewarding Khadr was a decision entirely made by Trudeau.
After that backfired, they’re trying another lie: Saying a past Supreme Court ruling forced them to pay Khadr.
    That’s false.
Supreme Court never gave order to pay Omar Khadr $10.5 million
Previous rulings by the Supreme Court of Canada have not included any orders to pay Omar Khadr $10.5 million. The horrible decision to give him that money is entirely the responsibility of the Trudeau government, and nobody else.
So why is Trudeau lying once again?
He’s seeing the anger of tens of millions of Canadians who are sickened and enraged by this disgusting travesty.
He can’t talk his way out of this one with his “a Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian” BS. So he’s desperately trying to spread blame and responsibility everywhere other than where it truly resides: With him.
He approved the payment to Khadr. He rewarded a terrorist. And he must face the electoral consequences of betraying our country, our allies, and our values.
Justin Trudeau has shown that when the going gets tough, he’ll roll over and cave in to an admitted terrorist rather than stand and fight. Not only has he shown weakness, he also betrayed Tabitha Speer and Layne Morris by giving Khadr the payment before they could fight it in court.
Weakness, betrayal, and dishonesty. That’s what Trudeau has shown by giving Omar Khadr $10.5 million of our tax money.
Canadians will not forgive, and we will not forget.
Sign the Taxpayer.com petition against Trudeau’s $10.5 million Omar Khadr payment

I really liked Coehoorn's closing interview the Edmonton Sun had.  I had no idea he was a Christian. That's awesome to see someone in the public eye give credit where credit is due. (to God)  I applaud him for speaking what he believes.
My wife and I went to the Calgary Stampeders Faith and Football dinner last season, it was a great event.  (yeah we rocked our Bomber jerseys!....but we had to sit with a couple Rider fans of course haha)  There is a strong Christian faith element in Football and the Stamps have a large contingent.  Some attendees/speakers were Drew Tate, Mitchell Gale, Marquay McDaniel, Anthony Parker and a bunch of others.  Probably almost 20.

    The odds are statistically irrelevant.
The U.S. is built so a President cannot do that.  This is also why they need to protect the 2nd Amendment...actually that's exactly why they have that amendment.

One of the first things tyrants try to (and many times succeed) do is seize all the guns so the populace cannot properly defend itself.  (many examples of this) So really, Obama and Hillary were more likely to try and seize power.  But neither would actually dare and try.  150million gun owners can defend a country.

Have you been to a fire arms class?  They are very strict in their teachings on safety and respect for the tool.
And increasingly more powerful weapons?  Are you even aware of what you're allowed to have in Canada.
And you're gender virtue signaling is disgusting.  Are you up for a job at Buzzfeed?
To me, the most dangerous thing about firearms in Canada is the misinformation and fear mongering of A: the firearms themselves and B: the average person who owns (LEGALLY)
Criminals don't count, because they don't register their firearms.
