  1. I can't use the "quote" functionality but this is a response to brice dream's post. So what has Miller done since he's taken on the role that has caused you concern that he wont make the right decision? He had a long career in the league and he's probably interviewed more prospective employees in his lifetime than most people ever will. I just don't see what he's done to deserve the mistrust. Except to accept the job of the President of the WBB's that for some reason the fans seem to have a mistrust for. It's too bad.
  2. I find it absolutely hilarious that some of you think that you're better qualified to choose the next head coach than a guy who's been in football for a number of years. Other than the fact you know Khari Jones was a QB for the WBB's, he has a wife named Justine and he enjoys acting, What do you really know about the man? Have you ever set down with him and discussed his coaching philosophy or what he thinks needs to be done to fix the teams problems? Yeah I thought so. Many here came in their jeans when the WBB's hired Tim Burke. Many were so happy when Hamilton passed him over which allowed us to scoop him up. And those same posters couldn't wait until the team fired Burke. So lets leave the decision up to those that have more CFL experience than all of us combined.
  3. Meh...It's not like Austin has a 10 year coaching resume. He doesn't really have much more coaching experience than Milanovich has. Also, didn't know Ricky Ray was a rookie
  4. Well if you look at the two current most successful coaches in the league. They're both ex QB's. Maybe there's something there? Do QB's historically make good coaches?
  5. Again your opinion is based on your personal perception vs. reality. Someone mentioned this and I think it's important to keep this in mind. Miller is ensconced in the Wpg business community and if he fucks this up and it becomes a public debacle. It's going to hurt him more anyone else.
  6. Dr. CFL...you really do ignore the facts in order to push you're own personal agenda. Miller has come out and said that the GM will be the one that chooses the new coach.
  7. I think with a different ownership group in Calgary, Matty could have succeeded. But he wore too many hats and was forced to play the owners son at QB. He had no real GM and he's admitted that he didn't surround himself with the right qualified people. Remember that Rick Flair look alike that was his ST's coach I believe. Khari could definitely succeed as a head coach but it his success will be tied to the coaches he surrounds himself with. Maybe he could hire his dad as a consultant.
  8. Okay...the Hamilton offence wasn't a disaster but you also have to look at what Khari got out of Kevin Glen vs. what Hufnagel and Dickenson is getting out of him today. I just can't get a good handle on what type of game manager Khari would be. If I believe correctly, Khari didn't like to call his own plays when he was a QB but I do remember that he was always given veto power to change the play if felt he needed to. I just wish we had the benefit of a longer resume.
  9. True but he did save the franchise from absolute doom. This team was a few days away from having to file for creditor protection. Lyle worked with the major creditors and convinced them to give him time to turn things around. I wonder what would have been the outcome if he didn't fire Doug Berry?
  10. It's been widely speculated that Khari Jones will be the next head coach of the WBB's. Many here have provided their views on what type of head coach he'd make and if he's even ready to take on that role. So feel free to provide your input on what you see as to the pros and cons. Pros Extensive CFL playing experience (specifically at the QB position) Appeared to be a cerebral player who understood the game better vs. one who dominated it because of physical attributes Spent a lot of time on the sidelines which gives a player a good opportunity to learn how to coach Endeared himself to the city while he was here Maybe Ray would return and post again As an ex QB, I believe it gives him a good knowledge of both sides of the ball Cons Limited coaching experience His past OC position wasn't what we would call successful So far I haven't seen that "take charge" demonstrative attitude from him in his coaching roles. The perceived relationship between him and Miller Feel free to provide your view.
  11. Arash Madani reported today that Lyle Bauer approached the WBB BOD's and let them know that he'd be interested in his old job with the Bombers. The Board politely advised Lyle that they weren't interested. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...makes you think.
  12. Pure speculation by Friesen. I personally would be disappointed if Khari is handed the job. Again, he's a great guy but not sure he's ready for primetime yet. I'm a fan of Walter's so I'd be OK with that but honestly I'd like to see Doug Berry back. But it's possible that Berry stays in Mtl and takes over as HC.
  13. So Doc Tell me what skills do you believe your perfect hire would possess? Quite frankly you seem to have this "anything but Winnipeg" attitude. So tell me, what would your perfect WBB President look like? And who would you have realistically hired? You seem to take great pleasure in bashing the team, yet you very seldom provide realistic alternative suggestions.
  14. Regardless of what side of the ball our next coach comes from. He must be a leader and a motivator. Pinball is a perfect example, no previous coaching experience but his players would follow him into a war. He is a motivator and was well respected by all the players in the league. This why I hope that Mike O'Shea gets an interview. I like his attacking coaching philosophy and he seems well liked and respected by his players. I know previous playing experience isn't a guarantee of success but you've got to think that players respect the coach who's played at the pro level vs the ones that didn't.
  15. Shawn Churchill ‏@ShawnChurchill 2m Blue bombers acting CEO Wade Miller says he has never tried to hire Chris Walby despite reports What was Arash Madani jumping to conclusions? The most credible CFL insider was wrong? I guess Pigs do fly
  16. Oh No! Miller makes a phone call based on his personal relationship to Chris Walby about trying to fix our inept O-line. God forbid... Look the normal chains of command this season have been blurred due to the extenuating circumstances. Next year will be clearer once the GM and the President are permanently staffed.
  17. Passion for the product or the brand is extremely important when your leading a company. But I doubt you bring anything else of value to the job. Have you started a company from scratch and built it in to a multi million dollar venture?
  18. this. and is it such a horrible thing? knows the bombers, knows the cfl inside and out. ran a few successful businesses... i consider miller to be a smart guy... hes also a survivor and played a long time with minimum skills... he as an "overseer" of a rookie gm in walters might not be a terrible idea... but dont get it twisted, id much rather the traditional method of an experienced GM with an assistant.. Miller may be a successfull businessman, but he's not a football ops personnel. Wade should focus more on making the right GM hire and once that's done solely focus on the business side. Seems to work everywhere else. Well you know what. Miller wasn't a businessman before he started Pinnacle, he was a football player. Some people have what it takes to be successful in everything thy do. I'm sure many people doubted him then too. Miller didn't need this job. He's doing quite well right now and could probably retire right now and just let the money roll in from Pinnacle. But guys like him need to be challenged and prove to themselves that they can succeed in other fields. I expect him to succeed and turn this team around. I honestly think that most Winnipegers are jealous of people who are successful. In Calgary we celebrate our successful entrepreneurs not vilify them. I guess that's the difference.
  19. When Jim Popp was hired by the Als, he had 1 year of prior player personnel experience. Prior to that he was a receivers coach. When John Hufnagel was hired by the Stamps as head coach and GM. His only player personnel experience was 2 years with the Arena league. When Wally Buono was hired as the GM of the BC Lions. That was his first player personnel job, previous CFL positions were all in a coaching roll. When Jim Barker was hired by the Stamps in 2005. This was his first GM position as well. So history shows that GM's can be successful without previous experience. Also all of these guys were hired by teams who were struggling at the time.
  20. The experience card or lack of is a real overreaction. Wally Buono, John Hufnagel, Jim Popp and many other successful GM's all at one time started as fresh faced GM's. And look at them now. So I could care less if our next GM has never been a GM before. I just want to make sure that he has the inherent skills and connections required to be a GM. Honestly, I can't think of a GM that's available right now that I'd want to lead this team out of this mess. So I'm going to put my trust in Miller to choose the right person for the job. Miller is extremely competitive and wants to succeed in everything he does. So I assume that he wouldn't make a personnel decision based just on friendship and not on merit.
  21. What makes no sense is the statement that "he's pushing Worman on Miller" . Would that suggest that Miller is going to be named the GM? Otherwise it doesn't make sense.
  22. Meh...Madani is stirring the **** again. He was on Calgary radio this week saying that the WBB's are increasing their season tickets by 35%. Yes, I know that there is a level that the team is increasing by that much but he made it sound like the team is increasing the prices 35% across the board . He then went on to say that how can a team as bad as the Bombers treat their fans that way. Again just reporting what he wants in order to push his personal agenda.
  23. I'm not saying that the players don't give it their all. But as a fan I'm not going to be too upset if we lose.
  24. I'd like to see a competitive game but like Mike I really want that 2nd overall pick. Flames are playing tonight so I'll have to figure out what to do. At least the Bomber game starts an hour earlier, so I can watch most of the first half before the Flames game even starts.
  25. I truly don't understand all the love Murphy gets on here. What has he done to prove to you that he'll be a successful GM in the league? Trust me, Hufnagel is a control freak and nothing happens unless he gives his blessing. So is the success in Calgary Hufs doing or Murphy's. Because Hufnagel controls every aspect of the football operations of the club. He doesn't allow any of his coaches do radio or TV interviews. Everything goes thru him.
