I wonder why Neiswander, Troy Smith, Justin Goltz, Joey Elliott and all the other QBs who looked good early in their careers but ended up being busts weren't traded for Canadian Tackles. Oh yea...that's right....GM's tend to want to see more than a half of good football before they go trading Ben Heenan's to the opposition for their 3rd stringer. (Unless your name is Mike Kelly of course.)

Five days to impress or gone. More players coming thru for evaluations. Once a player gets a practice roster spot they usually are here longer than 5 days. The 5 Day Trial was used to evaluate & then activate those players if the coaches felt they could play. It was a quick fix & baptism by fire. Whereas PR players are there for further development. But it's essentially the same. If a team doesn't think a guy has a chance to be a CFL player when he joins the PR, they can send him home whenever they want, 5 days or 5 weeks. The advantage I see with this is that you are not limited to the number of players being brought in throughout the year, good call. There's no limit to the number of players teams can bring in throughout the year now either. Replace "tryout" with "practice roster" and it's the exact same thing. I do think the league could do something to promote some player movement and discourage player hoarding though, similar to how the players on tryouts had to clear waivers to remain on "tryout" kind of thing. There is a limit to how many you can bring in at one time though. Back in the 80's, if the Eskimos had an area of weakness or injuries they wouldn't bring in one or two guys on a 14 day contract....they would bring in 7 or 8. Most would be sent home but some would be extended if they cleared waivers. It was not uncommon for the Esks to have upwards of 30 guys in town at a time on these type of contracts. I know this to be a fact....because in the 80's my brother was one of them that got to have a cup of coffee at Commonwealth. They ran a continual training camp pretty much and it was pretty much the reason that this was scrapped and replaced by the PR. The PR leveled the playing field between the rich teams and the teams struggling financially. As a team that struggles to make profits, I am glad we don't have to spend money like that to keep up with the Young's or Rider's of the league to be competitive.

He has played behind good lines since 2007 and has never played well since. He's done like dinner. Might be able to manage a game better than Sunseri or Doege but that's not saying much.

Yep. Romby forces the safety to make a decision a lot faster than Kelly does. Maybe. I don't think anyone respects Romby as a guy who can make any plays, speed or not. Bryant's speed is kind of the equivalent of having a 200 IQ but being the laziest person on earth, what difference does it make if he doesn't use it? Which is the equivalent of Kelly's height I suppose. If there's anyone within a few yards of Bryant, he won't win that battle for the ball, and everyone knows it. He can do something when teams completely lose track of him in the middle of the field though. To be honest, I'd prefer using Grigsby as a role player in and out of the backfield over dressing either Bryant or Kelly, but I don't trust our coaches to give Cotton a chance if Grigsby's on the roster either, so I'm fine with him sitting this week. I agree and am certainly not suggesting that Romby is a prize. I do wish we would have went with Grigsby ahead of the other two as well and let JFG take Kelly's spot. Grigsby and Cotton could then give the defence some headaches and a fresh look in a 2 back set occasionally and we could start an extra import elsewhere.

It's sad if we're relying on Bryant to stretch the field. If that's the case we're in trouble. Are you suggesting they'll leave him uncovered? You do realize that stretching the field is not a coordinator decision unless the decision is to leave him wide open behind coverage. Romby's speed stretches the defence. Whether or not he gets a ball thrown to him is irrelevant. Romby love him or hate him is one of the best in the league at stretching the field. His lack of production thus far may cause defences to gamble and give him a little room behind coverage but that's a very risky play call on defence. One you are not likely to see. No. I'm saying if Romby was any type of a threat by doing something with his speed, other teams defensive coordinators would have to scheme more for him being on the field. He won't draw double coverage very much but that doesn't change the fact he stretches the field. He does so on nearly every play with his speed. It's not optional for a defence to ignore his speed. Would it be nice if that translated into more production....absolutely it would. However, if we are going to choose between two receivers that aren't producing statiscally we may as well go with the one that produces in another way.

If that's what he's doing I wish he would have started with Kuale. I think he would have if he had a semi-viable alternative. Hard to say though. We will see how much Kuale hits the field now that Wild is back and know the answer. Also, the pickup of Will Smith today seems to indicate that we are looking for LBers.

Bryant is just bad. Bryant is definitely not the answer but Kelly has underachieved for a while now and I think he could use a game to sit back and contemplate his future in football and what he intends to do about it. It seems abundantly clear to me that, without trashing them in the media, OShea is sending a message to a few players who seem to have disappeared lately.

I honestly thought Bryant was our best receiver last game. Kelly has had a serious case of alligator arms and disappearitis over the last few games. I have no real feelings on this move at all. Like TB said, half a dozen of one six of another. Neither guy deserves a spot in the lineup imo...but if you gotta go with one I guess it comes down to what have you done for me lately. Bryant had the better game last week and Kelly was awful. Not my favorite move but there is some logic to it. Perhaps, just perhaps, MOS is sending a message to some players.....perhaps, just perhaps, all the whining, sucking, and blowing we have been hearing about no consequences is not true at all.

The logic is...we're screwed and need anyone who has thrown a football within the last 30 months. Does Taman have Bishop's number? There's another proven veteran. I seem to remember a strong arm. Mike Kelly was quite the QB evaluator even if he was a bit rough around the edges with the media. Tillman brought Bishop in. Yep....and Kelly brought him to Winnipeg afterwards. I think I would rather go with Bishop than Joseph but both choices are awful.

Nowhere in particular. Just a receiver that I have liked for a long time that took a while to develop in this league. Obviously, he wasn't a running back but I just look at the way Grigsby runs with the ball after the catch and he reminds me of a young Jamell. The comparison could be to any good YAC receiver though. The point I was trying to make was that Grigsby could give us that big playYAC receiver that we just don't seem to have right now on a consistent basis IF he could make the transition to receiver. It would be interesting actually to see him and Cotton in a 2 back set with Grigsby in more of a receiver/RB hybrid role. With Watson being very good in blitz pickup this could be a formation that gives opposing DCs some headaches.

Have you watched him play? He's a poor running back. Decent receiver though. I'd start Grisby ahead of Romby. I wouldn't go that far, however, I think the Bombers should seriously consider converting Grigsby to receiver over the offseason. He's average at best as a RB but he could be a dynamic receiver if he was able to make the transition. A young Jamel Richardson in the making. It would take some work and carries some risk but the payoff could be huge.

I agree with gbill and think that Mulumba here next year is a very strong possibility. If Newman can recover and stay healthy we will have effectively added a couple of very talented NIs on defence. I would love to see Newman in at LBer or safety. Not sure how many people here saw him with the Riders but the kid was a good young player who looked like he was ready to be a good player in this league. As for Mulumba, he is exceptional against the run and very athletic. He is Vega with a better passport. Both of these guys would provide much better ratio flex to our team. Also, not mentioned is Bilikudi who is a little bit more of a long shot but also a possibility for next year. It's quite possible we could be adding 4-5 quality NIs to our roster by getting some former and new picks in and injured players back. That would go a looong way in getting our team to the next level.

The Riders goose has not been cooked yet.....but it's been plucked, dressed, and is currently in the oven. I suppose there is a miniscule chance left though.....

Hey Ripper, there was a LOT of talk last year and in the offseason coming from the Regina media that Taman was very comfortable letting Willy explore FA because they felt Sunseri had surpassed him on the DC. Therefore, I am not convinced that he would have kept Willy even if they had the opportunity to do so. Which, of course, they did. There was no reason for Willy to believe that a starting QB spot was open anywhere until Hamilton released Burris and started the domino effect that created a spot in Winnipeg. Taman had a full two months of offseason to make Willy a decent contract extension offer at a time that Willy really didn't have an inkling that he would get a chance to be a starter. Willy, himself, said he was never once asked about extending. Taman, also, has a history of rolling the dice with inexperienced backups....a history that can be proven by the 2007 Grey Cup. Dinwiddie made his first professional start in a Grey Cup and it almost certainly cost us the game as we were the better team.

Diamond Ferri, after a whole season of inactivity? Good depth move but hardly a difference maker and unless he now plays QB...irrelevant. Taman's not picking off the CFL scrap heap...he's picking off players from the CFLPA pension fund list. You see this as improvement? I suppose there's a possibility that the locker room is in turmoil and needed an infusion of leadership because from an onfield perspective these moves make little sense.

Are the Riders making moves to win or just making moves. I would be shocked if Joseph could win a game against anyone now. Sorry, but signing KJ does absolutely nothing to change anyone's opinion of the Rider's chances. There is an almost zero chance that the QB tandem of Sunseri/KJ can go into Commonwealth and then McMahon and win. Zero...zip....ain't gonna happen. Hate to inform you but this was going to be a longshot even with Durant. The Riders are simply not the same team they were last year.

Hey D47, what part of last game has you convinced that Sunseri has turned the corner. The two quarters he absolutely stunk or the 4th quarter where he was able to move the ball when Calgary CLEARLY let their foot off the gas pedal. Sorry, but the 4th quarter had as much to do with Calgary mailing it in too early than it did with Sunseri suddenly getting it. Either way though it was a loss in which Sunseri played wildly inconsistent. Reminds me a lot of Joey Elliott, except Elliott wouldn't bottom out as badly. Don't see too many wins for the Riders or for Sunseri any time soon.

LOL. Unless a person is player or a fly on the wall in the Bomber's dressing room they have absolutely no idea how or what MOS communicates to his players.....and that's the way it should be.
