  1. Well the movie looks like it's set 50 years from now. Making brand new dinosaurs? JW prediction? So bad it makes 2 look good. F4? Has to be better then the originals which were horrible. Dr. Doom?
  2. I agree, the danger in going too young too fast. There is a real possibility we miss the playoffs next year if the goal is to get Ehlers, petan, Morrissey and whomever else into the regular line up. But we're also lucky to have these "two cores" and not have an aging group that needs to be rebuilt. Our first core is in that 27-30 year old range. perfect for "right now" (say a 5 year window to win now) and our young core is 18-22, perfect to win in the future. Keep Ladd. Little and Wheeler are here. Try to sign Frolik or Stafford. Now you're loaded up on "right now" vets. I just dont want to be paying 5 years from now for a player that doesnt impact us enough right now to make it worth it. Buff has micro-impacts. Those moments and occasionally entire games where he decides he's playing like a beast. But his macro-value is less especially now. The team was fine, even better, when he was suspended. When Bogo was here, Buff was ahead of him on the depth chart. Now, Myers is ahead of Buff. Trouba will be shortly if he isnt already. If Buff is consistently Buff, other players have surpassed him.
  3. That explains why he was "invisible" the first couple of games. Very tough injury to play through. I'd question the coaching of how they used him but if the argument was made that 60% of Ladd was better than 100% of someone else, so be it. It makes his Game Three performance pretty heroic.
  4. SOD is smart to put the heat on the government for rushing the project. It's an easy target and one that will play well in the media and with the public. In retrospect, wouldnt it have been nice for everyone to take a breath and do it the right away, even if the cost was $240 million? What really rubs me the wrong way is the sense that maybe certain people knew there would be added cost but took a "we'll worry about that later" mentality. But hey, its a beautiful building. Problems will get fixed. Life will go on.
  5. In the case of Andrew Ladd I agree with you. He's consistent. I guess the issue is, paying them big top level cash for many years when they probably wont be the same player in a few years. Ladd could slide down at time goes on but I think he's the type of guy that even at 33 or 34, a legitimate team would want. Buff is already in decline. No upside to paying him $6 million a year for six years or whatever it would take. Our defence could absorb losing Buff more than our forwards could absorb losing Ladd. With Myers and Trouba there, I just dont see how Buff fits in.
  6. I believe I recall that being true. The Big Show guys were debating Ladd & Buff and whether you trade neither, one or both. Their feeling echoing many here that if your projections at being a cup contender are 3-4 years away, is it a wise investment to spend the big dollars to keep guys here who at that point will be 33-34 years old.
  7. You always need extra forwards. I'd keep Peluso. We will have even more youngsters in the line up so having a guy you can dress to ride shot gun for them is nice.
  8. Well really none of us know exactly what happened. That's tjr danger with partial video
  9. I know nothing. But I would assume that every issue has a paper trail back to someone who aporoved it as stated above. If that group aporoced IT without doing due diligence too bad.
  10. How do you know those are the facts? You're leabing out one thing because of your perception bias. That suspect tried to disarm cop.
  11. It's still fiction. I mean we have to accept that. Thing with trek is theybhad some good writers in the 60's who created things that really had no real basis in science then but do now.
  12. Seriously? You think that it's more appropriate for a cop to immediately escalate to deadly force if they're less certain about how much danger they're in? Shoot first, ask questions later? Yes. That is, in fact, exactly what I wrote. And it is, in fact, exactly what happened in this case. Very good.
  13. Star Wars is fantasy because its not humans. As for Star Trek, an infinite energy source isnt so far-fetched actually. In the original series, there was a limit. They were powered by Dilithium Crystals that occasionally needed replacement. The plot of Star Trek IV included the fact their ship did not have enough power to return home but they were able to use Nuclear Power. A Nuclear Power source is legitimate as a supply. NASA has commented on Matter/AntiMatter as a power source also. Imagine taking a cell phone, iPad, Ferrari and Stealth Jet to 1850. Now imagine going ahead to 2300. Who's to say what will be what then? I certainly hope we have developed nearly unlimited power sources that can get us inter-planetary by then.
  14. Buff is more attractive to a team that thinks he's the missing piece of a championship puzzle. Or Philly because they always think they're one player away.
  15. Star Wars was influenced by Star Trek. Just as Paramount was influenced to make Star Trek into a film rather than a TV show after the success of A New Hope.
  16. Well thats true. But Trek has green orion slave girls.
  17. Considering that virtually none of the technology in Star Trek actually exists, doesn't that make all of it 'sciencey sounding mumbo jumbo'? What actual science is there in Star Trek? I love sci-fi and fantasy alike. There certainly is a distinction. Star Trek is primarily Sci-Fi, no doubt, but it unabashedly borrows from fantasy on the regular. Many technology in Star Trek has a basis in reality or were predicted in Trek and eventually came true or are in development: Tractor Beams Communicators PADDS In-Ear Comms Voice Interface Transparent Alluminum Tricorders Hypo Spray Replicators Holodeck Transporters Matter-Antimatter power generation Impulse Engines Cloaking devices Phasers
  18. Dont get me wrong, the lazy technobabble always sucks. But Star Trek is (or is supposed to be) our current humanity extrapolated 300-400 years into the future. Certainly, they seem to be more advanced than is reasonably possible but they also predicted a lot of things acurrately. If im not mistaken, a deflector dish is legitimate possible technology. Re-routing every sort of beam and lazer through it is somewhat far-fetched but the idea of the dish and it's intended purpose isnt. Speaking of Star Trek, the third of the Bad Robot films is entitled Star Trek Beyond and has Idris Elba and Sofia Boutella linked to roles.
  19. Actually what usually happens is directly relevent due to training and instinctive reaction. The rap sheet is relevant because it goes to the nature of the suspect and his intent. The fact the officer didnt know his rap sheet is actually a point in favour of the officer because he had no idea of the level of danger he was in. The threat of being shot anytime you engage in a physical altercation with a police offer is relevant too. Imagine if the Supreme Court came out and rules that officers cannot use deadly force to defend themselves against a physical attack, every suspect in the US would fight their way out of every attempted arrest.
  20. I dont think Buff is untouchable. The Myers trade made him expendable. His playoff performance made him expendable. If he was willing to sign for 1 or 2 years, sure, why not. But he's crazy to not maximize his money and term at this point given his age. And I dont see why the Jets would do that. I wonder if there is a deal to be made with the Flyers there. Speculation always was that they wanted Buff. And supposedly Jets had interest in Luke Schenn. What side does he play? Del Zotto is without a deal this summer, isnt he? Is he RFA or UFA?
  21. The "dont want to play in Winnipeg" thing doesnt bother me. There are people that want to play and dont want to play in every city for whatever reason. A big name free agent? Well, if you have 10-15 offers, it doesnt mean Winnipeg lost, it means 14 cities lost so who cares. When guys come here, they usually talk about all the good things they know or hear. Perreault probably had options. Kinda tired of the idea of it to be honest. The benefit to having the AHL here for a couple of years is those players getting fully ingrained in the Winnipeg and Jets culture.
  22. Let's hope that's a blip. Go Wild. (Because I'm a fan) My pool dreams rest with Nashville and Detroit now.
  23. I think Toby is a top talent D man but he might not be built for the west. Might do alright in the east. Or if he wasn't our top LHD. Chiarot will be pushing for a regular spot next year as will morrissey. Moving Toby would open a lot of money. But leave a big hole. Imagine if they moved both Toby and Buff?
