  1. MMAfighting.com Just a few hours after turning himself in, Jon Jones is out of jail Monday night. The UFC light heavyweight champion posted $2,500 bail and was released before 10 p.m. local time, according to Bernalillo County Metro Detention Center records. Jones was arrested on a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving death or personal injuries earlier Monday evening. Jones was booked 7:11 p.m. local time. Jones, 27, allegedly ran a red light Sunday morning, striking a car driven by a pregnant woman. There was also a third car involved. The woman, whose name is Vanessa Sonnenberg, broke her arm in the incident. Jones is being accused of fleeing the scene on foot. There was a marijuana pipe and marijuana found in the rental car Jones allegedly left behind. An off-duty police officer, a UFC fan, identified Jones at the scene. Witnesses said Jones went back to the vehicle to grab a handful of money before running away. Sonnenberg's injury upgraded the Jones charge from a potential misdemeanor to a felony. The arrest warrant was issued Monday afternoon. Jones was also incommunicable until Monday afternoon. His lawyer arranged the plans for Jones to turn himself in, per the Albuquerque Police Department. UFC has acknowledged Jones' arrest and the promotion does not expect to provide any further statements Monday night. The UFC said in a statement Sunday that it would wait for more information to come in before commenting further. Jones' UFC 187 main event title defense against Anthony Johnson has not officially been called off. Jones recently moved with his fiancée and three daughters to Albuquerque from upstate New York. He has trained at Jackson-Winkeljohn MMA in the New Mexico city for years. Jones, regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, has had troubles in the past. He was busted for DWI in 2012 and in December tested positive for cocaine metabolites in an out-of-competition drug test conducted by the Nevada Athletic Commission. That same commission is watching this current situation for closely, executive director Bob Bennett told MMAFighting.com on Monday.
  2. Im not sure I'd want to burden Myers with Buff. And again, in a perfect world, we sign everyone to long term contracts. We cant do that. So who's going to go? You want to give Buff a raise on his $6 million a year for another 6 years or so...who are you letting go?
  3. What level of hockey is required to have an opinion on this forum? None. I never played rec league hockey. If you dont get my point, disregard, as it went over your head (not a shot, just saying, no biggie) A shot from you? You never do that to other posters. Thats true. Thank you.
  4. Someone (might have been Lawless, cant remember) made a comment during the season. He said when things are getting rough in the Jets zone and they gain possession, watch who they give the puck too, Enstrom. I realise thats the system, but I did watch for this after that comment and it was always a pass to Enstrom to calm things down. Keep in mind when they signed Enstrom to that deal, it was to give them stability and cost certainty well they worked on re-stocking the prospect pool. So if we're now at a point where we're talking about guys coming in and competing, then everything worked according to plan. Had Enstrom's contract expired this season or last, we'd be in trouble. His leverage would have been pretty high, as it was when he signed.
  5. He actually had 15 points in 22 games after signing the deal (I think) and was then hurt.

  7. #NHLJets announce Toby Enstrom & Adam Pardy underwent successful shoulder surgeries yesterday. Both expected to be ready for training camp. Explains why Toby was knocked around so much in the playoffs.
  8. Quiet players never get the love. Remember Teppo Numminen? Took a long time for people to see how valuable he was. The Jets continue to be in transition mode. The left side could have Enstrom, Stu, Chiarot, Morrissey battling this year. Maybe Morrissey only makes it as far as the AHL. Who knows right now.
  9. You're looking at it from your personal enjoyment perspective -- I look at it from the city's long term health perspective. And downtown WPG is nowhere near its economic or quality of life potential. Frankly, it still sucks. Look at other major N-American cities with urban sprawl issues -- they are bending over backwards to try to keep entertainment development in the core, not transplant it into the burbs. Minneapolis is putting their new facility downtown for a reason. But hey, we'll always have Portage Place. I was mostly being sarcastic. I live in the south so the majority of my life I have had to travel to St James for sporting events. It was the people who would have longer commutes to the South that whined about the unfairness of the location. As others have said, a Stadium is not going to spark economic development for 10 games a year. It just isnt. Earls closed its Pembina HWY location after IGF opened. I know some people who said thats crazy, they must make a killing being close to the Stadium. Sure they do. 10 times a year. The amount of space required for the Stadium in downtown Winnipeg would have been an albatross. Like building a giant surface parking lot. And the CFL isnt the NFL. Look at the MTSC. Where was the massive economic development when the arena was built? A damn sports bar right across the street couldnt make it work. Tons of shops boarded up. One could argue the return of the NHL helped spark some renewal but there are still empty shops. The NHL helped businesses that were already there. How many shops opened because of the NHL. Centrepoint and Glasshouse are developments connected to True North. Same with True North square. Is that a coincedence? And that's a facility that is busy year round. The Polo Park site has way greater value being redeveloped for retail and/or residential. IGF being where it is makes a lot of sense. And once car-crazy Winnipeggers figured out that you cant all drive to the facility, the traffic situation increased dramatically to the point many of the temporary parking along Pembina HWY sits empty on game days.
  10. I hope Chevy and Maurice read this thread so they can figure out how to solve all the Jets' problems. Just move Trouba to the left side. Problem solved. I can only assume it isnt that easy. Rec league guys say "sure it is". And yet the Jets didnt do that. Ill further add that last season, Bogo's performance dropped and much of that was attributed to him being switched to left to pair with Trouba and Bogo not being comfortable there. I'd think Buff would be most able to switch sides since he seems to play all over the ice anyway and played both wings. Why they didnt do that in the playoffs, I have no idea. Perhaps Enstrom-Myers and Buff-Trouba will be our top four next season. But pick a guy in the top six forwards and top four D to be gone because they arent likely have keep everyone.
  11. Why didnt they build 6 stadiums? They could have had one in every area of the city so no one complained about location. Im not a fan of Geoff Currier but my favourite call of his was a woman who called to complain about the location. She said she lived very close to CIS and this new location was just awful because she would have to take the bus to the south end. He said "and what have the south end residents been doing for years?" She basically said she didnt care, since it was close to her already then it should stay there. The whiners about traffic, all I can say is drive North on Route 90 to a concert or Football game at CIS, we were used to sitting in unmoving traffic. Never complained because we grew up on it. IGF location is perfectly fine. And guess what, it's down the street from me now.
  12. He's 30 years old. Has 2 50+ point seasons. Is a consistent 30+ point producer. And again, the most important question is, who do you replace him with? He was signed to his deal when the Jets had literally nothing on the back-end and needed consistency and to show stability there. He was head & shoulders the number 1 guy when he was signed. The D-corp has caught up with Myers & Trouba and good prospects. But Buff makes the same as Toby (more this season), is he better on D? Well, Toby is 1LHD and Buff is 3RHD so you tell me. And Buff is going to get a raise and make Toby's deal look like a bargain. I like Stu and Chairot but if you're advocating one of them become our number one Left handed d next season, I question your sanity. Its the same thing with the Buff debate - we have depth at Buff's position thus he is expendable. We do not have depth at Toby's position, not yet, thus he is valuable.
  13. I agree with goalie on both fronts. Fans undervalue Toby. Teams with high priced scouts and smart management won't. They will pay. Puck moving D man, plays tons of minutes. Is young. Good contract. Defensively sound. Good teammate. He's everything you want aside from being a bit small.
  14. I agree Goalie. People really need to look at the big picture. The same reason Buff is expendable is the reason Enstrom isnt. Buff is number 3 on the Right Side. Enstrom is number one on the left side. Some people make it out that its easy to move guys to off-position. But it's not or else they'd do it. They might try it, but they havent really yet. Buff played both wings as a forward, so maybe he can move to 2LD but generally if a D is off-position, you need to be pretty speedy to get to pucks along the boards. I think Enstrom is here long term.
  15. Buff is our highest paid D-man this year. And arguably the third on the D depth chart. I'm sure that fact won't escape management.
  16. I defended Doan more than most during the Coyotes-to-Winnipeg window. A lot of people here were critical of him when he said hed consider retiring before moving to Winnipeg. I defended him as being pro-Coyotes as the Captain of the team. But when he now makes remarks about wanting to play for a winner or having to give it some thought, I really wonder about him. I think he's a guy that grew up in the NHL in Arizona, no doubt loves the state. He doesnt seem as accepting of the realities of the NHL as most players. If he cost us virtually nothing, I'd be interested in him. But 38 going on retired....? Aside from character depth in a playoff run, I dont see the value.
  17. Andrew Paterson @hustlerama .@thesawch @RickRalphTSN cup winner picks 30 cup loser 29. Conf finalists 27-28. All other playoff teams ranked by points in reg season
  18. Here's a couple of rumours posted in an article on bleacher. Shane Doan to Winnipeg for a draft pick Enstrom to TO for Lupol
  19. That's one thought but honestly I think that's a mistake. What if the jets are in a fierce battle for a playoff spot? They keep Buff and lose him for nothing? Losing him for nothing would be a massive mistake. It would be the Frolik distraction times 100. Must trade him this summer. Was there a "Frolik Distraction"? His status only came up every other day until the deadline passed. I wasnt personally distracted but the discussion was there. Are you saying you think everyone would ignore the pending UFA status of Buff as the deadline approached?
  20. This is certainly true. But Chevy (and all of True North) are fairly well versed in the generic comment and saying the right thing. I doubt you;d hear Chevy say "Buff is certainly available for the right offer". There is always a lot of reading between the lines when it comes to True North though it can be done. Chevy made comments in the past about being close to a deal at last years draft (or Free Agent day, I cant recall) that required ownership input. The issue is, does Chevy want him? Surely he does. When Buff's agents asks for $6.5 million per year for seven years, how much does Chevy want him? Guys need raises. If you look at everyone under contract right now, pick one of the top guys to be gone because its unlikely they all end up here over the next 5 years.
  21. Fun to talk about but I suspect Chevy will not make any blockbuster trades. Look how long they kept Kane.
  22. Scheif and Wheeler were pretty good together. Once Perreault got put there too, they seemed to have chemistry. I thought Scheif looked great in Game One of the playoffs until his penalty and then seemed a little too careful not to make that mistake again and didnt seem as engaged. But the top line had it's issues (injuries) and I think the Ducks' strategized to control the Scheif line more. Ill be looking for Scheif to put up stronger numbers next season. Good as a rookie, decent as a sophomore, now is the time I step up and start working towards being the number one center they expect him to be.
  23. That's one thought but honestly I think that's a mistake. What if the jets are in a fierce battle for a playoff spot? They keep Buff and lose him for nothing? Losing him for nothing would be a massive mistake. It would be the Frolik distraction times 100. Must trade him this summer.
  24. If the brass sign buff to a $6 + million six plus year deal then they are nuts.
