  1. I dont know what any of that means. I have a Mac. And I think my work computer is running Windows 95.
  2. A chunk of airplane wing that may match the Malaysia Airlines flight that went missing more than a year ago was found on the island of Réunion in the Indian Ocean. Xavier Tytelman, a French former military pilot, was contacted today by a man on the island who found the piece, according to The Telegraph, and says it looks like it could be from the long disappeared Boeing 777, in part because it appears to have spent at least a year in the ocean. “We all think it is likely that the wing is that of a Boeing 777 – the same plane as MH370,” he told the Telegraph. Flight 370 departed from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for Beijing, China early on March 8, 2014, with 239 people on board. A search over tens of thousands of square miles of ocean in a number of different regions, failed to turn up a single trace of the jet. ***I dont know anything about ocean currents but if this is indeed wreckage from 370, it means these people were looking in the wrong place from Day One. It means the mathematical calculations from satellite "handshakes" was inaccurate. Because it would mean the plane crashed in the right ocean but the wrong spot, far more westerly then they were looking. On one hand, it would be great news to have a place to start really searching. But on the other hand, I'd be disappointed in thinking the plane is in pieces. The piece found is a flap, pretty small piece of a wing. I suppose it doesnt preclude the idea the wings snapped off but the fuselage remained intact and is at the bottom of the ocean...which is the important part if a cause is to be determined. There's also this: The plane wing is reportedly being considered as belonging to a twin engine plane that crashed near the island in 2006, a portion of the missing MH370 flight or the remnants of a Yemenia flight that crashed in 2009 off the coast of Comoros. Investigators warned it was too soon to determine where the plane wing originated from. and Jon Ostrower ✔ @jonostrower For those of you watching at home, Reunion Island is REALLY, REALLY, REALLY far from where search teams have been looking for #MH370. 11:44 AM - 29 Jul 2015 Question: Will they confirm the crash site of Amelia Earhart's plane or MH370 first?
  3. You have to wonder what the Canucks are thinking. Im no expert on the players involved but most people are saying the Canucks traded away the better player with the better contract plus the better prospect and better pick for the lesser player with a more expensive contract and a worse pick. Canucks are probably going to get pretty bad before they turn the corner but giving up good prospects and picks isnt going to help.
  4. Self inflicted long term death - just another first world problem. There is a lot of self inflicted harm we as a society engage in. Smoking. Which is now being replaced as the "cool" thing to do by vaping. Drinking soda. I love me some Dr Pepper. Consuming far too much meat and processed foods. Absolutely. Im not very healthy. I go through periods. But its hilarious when you argue with people who have zero knowledge but swear meat, dairy etc is not only good for you but necessary in a human diet. The milk lobby is unbelievably successful.
  5. Here's an interesting one which, again, shows a major lack of training in my opinion. http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/28/us/massachusetts-detective-dashcam/index.html A driver in Mass made the wrong turn (on a round-about I believe). This was observed by an OFF-DUTY detective in his street clothes in an unmarked (I believe his civilian) vehicle. The detective motions for the driver to pull over but as the detective gets out, the driver begins backing away because he has no idea this is a cop. The detective screams at him to stop, draws his weapon and threatens to shoot him in the head. He further says the driver is lucky he's a cop or he'd beat him up. Now, Ive seen MANY instances where police had told drivers if they are being pulled over and have any question as to the validity or identity of the person pulling them over, they can call 911 to confirm. Ive seen people told they do not have to open their windows all the way until they are shown proper ID and sure its a legitimate officer. I think this detective is lucky he wasnt driven over by a driver afraid for his life. And again, this is a minor traffic infraction. I'd love to know if police forces across North America look for the macho Alpha male types or if its just a by-product of the profession? I do agree with the article where its said this particular detective is very good at his job and in his line of work, that abrasive, edgy style can elicit results. But is this officer so stupid to not see the difference here?

  7. I know very little. On another forum someone challenged me on this when I mentioned my support for the Conservatives. The thing is, with massive agreements like this, not everyone or everything will be a "win". If Canada won every issue in a trade agreement, it means the other parties are losing. As the article states, every country has to put some water in their wine to get an agreement done that works for everyone. But, knowing little about it, on the surface it seems like something Canada has to be at the table for.
  8. Maybe. Depends on this season. I think the Jets might get Scheif cheaper. Does that six years take Couturier to one year before free agency? To me, ideally, you sign these guys to contracts that still leaves a couple of years of restricted free agency so you can then, if you choose, try and lock them up into their early 30's.
  9. Pens did well today. Canucks did not. Good deal for Eric. Surprised he got a three year deal but he will do well there I think.
  10. @TheHockeyChat: Flyers sign Sean Couturier to a 6 year deal worth $4.3M / YR That can be a huge bargain in a few years #NHL
  11. As for lower crime in Concealed Carry areas, Id want to know if those are lower income or higher income areas anyway. I have my doubts that low income, high crime areas have a lot of people with Concealed Carry permits.
  12. Armia has hype behind him. When the trade happened, I focused on Armia from what I read but I've been pretty weary since. But you do hear people say he's tremendously talented. I dont think he makes the Jets out of camp because, to be honest, I dont see where he fits. Unless we move to a "skilled" fourth line, which is possible, even if he's a better player than, say, Thorburn, for that role, Armia isnt going to get it. And I think the Jets are high on players earning their opportunities. Lowry played himself onto the team. Chairot played himself into a new contract and will start with the jets. Armia needs to dominate in the AHL or blow people away at camp. I think he goes to the AHL and I think he will be productive.
  13. If only guns could be eradicated from the earth. If someone invades my home, in that moment I might wish I had a gun. But I'd rather take that risk than allow everyone to have guns. The gun culture in the US is insane, backed by very powerful lobbyists. Its really quite insane. The lobby wont allow *any* gun control feeling its a slippery slope. So people can buy assault rifles or whatever...like why does anyone ever need that? Start by banning any weapons that are not reasonably for the use of hunting and home protection. Im talking, whatever the cops generally have as their side-arm is all a person needs for "protection". Ban everything above that. Make the sale, purchase and possession of these now-banned weapons a major felony with mandatory prison. There's a start. Might have to go though about 100 Waco's before all is said and done though.
  14. Some fantasy talk. Peter Tessier's blog today pushes the idea of trading Buff and signing Franson. You can read it here if interested: http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Peter-Tessier/Trade-Byfuglien-and-Sign-Franson/161/70192 In the post he mentions: Some rumours have circulated, coming from other cities, that Chevy has mentioned he would not ask Byfuglien to accept a trade, that it would be un-loyal. He further implies that if not "un-loyal" (disloyal?) to Buff, it might be considered disloyal to some of the other core guys who are close to Buff. I dont know, this is a business. Players understand that. But I've said before I wonder how Ladd's new contract impacts Buff or lack of Buff being signed impacts Ladd. In the comments, someone puts forth this gem of a fantasy trade: Bickell/Versteeg/Crawford/Schmaltz for Byfuglien/Pavalec/Conditional Picks (Base 1 4th if WPG misses playoffs, 1 3rd if WPG makes playoffs but finishes worse than Chi, 2 3rd if WPG finishes better than Chi).
  15. TWN is literally the worst weather forecaster. They have a nice app though. I recently tweeted at them wondering if their advanced forecasting was just an old man looking out a window and they replied saying yes with a pic of an old man looking out the window so they have a sense of humor too.
  16. SportsCentre ✔ @SportsCentre JUST IN: @penguins sign F @EricFehr to a three-year, $6 million contract. Farhan Lalji ✔ @FarhanLaljiTSN Bonino, Clendenning & a 2nd round pick for Brandon Sutter & a 3rd: http://canucks.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=775796 … #canucks
  17. I was right about my thoughts concerning Trump threatening to run as an Indy. That was good timing! Trump is a major problem for the Republicans if he's serious about running. He's likely too crazy to win but if the party boots him and he runs as an indy, the Democrats are assured victory. I like both Hilary and Jeb for the most part. I was a pretty big W fan to be honest. Which is not to say I think any political leader is perfect but I think he was well-meaning and history will judge him a lot more fondly than when he left office. Jeb's issue will be two-fold I think: 1) being tied to the "failed" Bush name 2) not being right wing enough for the Republican nuts that seem determined to control the party. Once the election gets cooking though, he will win over voters. Bill Clinton is very likeable. Hilary not as much. But Bill softens her image a bit. Its a unique political partnership, good for both of them. Her issue will be Benghazi. She's got the experience now where people wont question her qualifications. She's more popular than Obama. The combo of Obama's supporters and Bill fans could give her the presidency. If it's Hilary vs Jeb, that might benefit Jeb in I suspect the Clintons would be less prone to attack Jeb for the work of his brother and father since it would then be fair game for Jeb to attack Hilary for Bill's job as President. Plus, the Clinton's and Bush's seem to be pretty friendly. Maybe they can shock the world and run on the same ticket. ha!
  18. Yeah...trusty old Weather Network app calling for 5mm during the massive downpour. I call BS on that one. Got to work to find our loading bay filled with water. Lots of large, deep puddles on the new Kenaston Extension (would think a new roadway would be built to handle it). Guess Ill have to mow the lawn soon.
  19. You hope the coach isnt so stubborn as to stick with a losing proposition because he doesnt want to ostensibly admit he was wrong.
  20. I think Wayne is the greatest of all time. I think Mario is the most talented of all time. Imagine Mario not being struck down by cancer and back injuries. He would have beat Wayne's records for goals and points.
  21. Here's a wonderful one: http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/27/us/florida-road-rage-killing/index.html (CNN)A Florida man was shot to death in front of his family in an apparent road rage incident captured on 911 recordings. Robert Doyle was driving his truck on Thursday in Citrus County when he apparently called 911 to say another driver was "trying to run me off the road." Meanwhile, Candelerio Gonzalez, 44, was on the same road. His wife, Cathy Gonzalez, called 911 to report that another motorist was "driving like an idiot." On the recording, Gonzalez can be heard saying he's going to follow Doyle to his house to get his address. The operator says, "No, no, no." Doyle seems to realize that Gonzalez intended to follow him to his home. He tells 911: "They're following me to my house ... and the guns are already out," apparently referring to his own firearm or firearms. When Doyle arrived back at his home, Gonzalez allegedly parked and got out of his truck. In a panicked voice, Cathy Gonzalez is heard telling the dispatcher that Doyle has a gun. "Get somebody here now!" she said Police said Doyle shot Gonzalez in front of the house. A witness said Gonzalez was backing away, but Doyle's wife said otherwise. "We were in our yard and he stopped in the middle of the road and came after my husband," she told 911. Cathy Gonzalez can be heard wailing, "He killed my husband! Oh my God." Police said Doyle pointed his gun at Gonzalez's wife, daughter and grandson and forced them out of the truck until police arrived. Cathy Gonzalez yells to the 911 dispatcher: "That [man] is making me get out of my truck with my daughter! You got to help me, please." Doyle was charged with second-degree murder and released from jail under $60,000 bond. Doyle and his family did not return a call to CNN seeking comment. ****Just reaks of the inherent arrogance associated too often with gun owners, that even though police are already involved and there has been no threats made or implied, the guy with the gun puffs out his chest and feels 'hey, follow me and Im justified in killing you' or "stand on my drive way and Ill shoot you dead". Just ridiculous.
  22. Me no like but then I remember the Smythe Division. I could handle Winnipeg sharing a division with the Alberta teams. *Maybe* even throw Vancouver in there (though Vancouver wouldnt like it) but a cross continent division? Jets might as well go back to the South East division. Not gonna happen, I'd suspect.
  23. Another hot-button topic for discussion. Below is an article about a Gun Restraining Order program. Seems to be a wise idea within a culture that simply wont ban guns. http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/26/opinions/horwitz-lafayette-charleston-chattanooga/index.html Since its nearing election time in the US, this is now an election issue with one candidate (was it Walker?) suggesting if everyone else in the theatre was also armed, this wouldnt happen. As Canadians, our opinions will likely lean towards strict gun control. What do you think?
  24. Retired Detroit Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom said former Pittsburgh Penguins center Mario Lemieux was the best player he played against during his career, according to a report in Swedish paper Expressen. "It was all about Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux and Steve Yzerman," said Lidstrom, who will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in November. "Lemieux had an incredible reach and some really good skills with his stick. Gretzky had that too, but he made all the players around him better. Individually, I would say Lemieux was the better player."
