There's a bit of irony in the hiring of "play not to lose Burke" IMO.

Mack hired him so as 'not to lose' a gifted defensive mind.

He didn't hire the best coach available....he took a knee.

I want to hear what Burke thinks about him first.
But I'd value the Cookie Monster's opinion more.

    They are not mutually exclusive.

Trace what Burke does and at the end of your drawing you will have a conclusion that Burke shares the blame...heavily.

The decision to kneel at the half is totally who Burke is.
And that decision, at this time, in the overall picture of where the Bombers psyche is right now, was exactly what we didn't need.
How many jaws dropped when the return team hit the field?
How many more jaws dropped when we saw we were kneeling?
There was a chance to win. 2 plays, maybe three.
I don't care who you have at QB, you go for it.
    You play to win.
    You play to win.

There once was a young boy with a very bad temper. The boy's father wanted to teach him a lesson, so he gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper he must hammer a nail into their wooden fence.

On the first day of this lesson, the little boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. He was really mad!

Over the course of the next few weeks, the little boy began to control his temper, so the number of nails that were hammered into the fence dramatically decreased.

It wasn't long before the little boy discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.

Then, the day finally came when the little boy didn't lose his temper even once, and he became so proud of himself, he couldn't wait to tell his father.

Pleased, his father suggested that he now pull out one nail for each day that he could hold his temper.

Several weeks went by and the day finally came when the young boy was able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.

Very gently, the father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence.

"You have done very well, my son," he smiled, "but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same."

The little boy listened carefully as his father continued to speak.

"When you say things in anger, they leave permanent scars just like these. And no matter how many times you say you're sorry, the wounds will still be there." — with P. -Mark Pothier

Same old same old, just re-hashing for today's game.

But...he goes on to project stats for Goltz to equal the amount of games played...and that's just plain ridiculous.
No way you can do that. Once and awhile I have to wonder about Penton, and this is one of those times.

What if you were playing in the club championship tournament finals and the match was halved at the end of 17 holes?

You had the honour and hit your ball a modest two hundred fifty yards to the middle of the fairway, leaving a simple six iron to the pin.

Your opponent then hits his ball, lofting it deep into the woods to the right of the fairway.

Being the golfing gentleman that you are, you help your opponent look for his ball.

Just before the permitted five minute search period ends, your opponent
says: "Go ahead and hit your second shot and if I don't find it in time, I'll concede the match."

You hit your ball, landing it on the green, stopping about ten feet from the pin.

About the time your ball comes to rest, you hear your opponent exclaim from deep in the woods: "I found it!".

The second sound you hear is a click, the sound of a club striking a ball and the ball comes sailing out of the woods and lands on the green, stopping no more than six inches from the hole.

Now here is the ethical dilemma:

Do you pull the cheating bastard's ball out of your pocket and confront him with it or do you keep your mouth shut?

What you witnessed 1st hand on Sunday is something we've had to put up with for the last several years.

Missed blocks by O-Line, poor positioning by O-Line, and defenders just beating the O-Line.

How'd you like getting rushed so much you can't follow through on the play?

How'd you like just throwing the ball away to prevent a sack, or running because you have to?

Did getting knocked down bother you the 1st time, the 2nd, the 3rd.....?

How come your running back isn't helping you out?

Where are those damn receivers when you need them?

Are you thinking everybody forgot how to block all of a sudden?

That frigging Cortez, did he forget how to co-ordinate?

Your quarterbacking skills are now in question.

    Welcome to our lives.

I'm not a Buck supporter, so understand where this comes from.  I have to agree with certain points that were made.  Pierce did not harm this team, not purposefully anyway (kind of like what Mr. Dee said above).  He did not force his way onto this team and force them to make him the starter.  If you want to be mad at someone or say "good riddance" at least aim it at the correct person.  Joe Mack.  He brought Buck here.  He probably (speculating considering what's happened) made Burke and LaPo start Buck over anyone else and because he signed Buck to the contract and paid him "big bucks" to come here and play, he pushed them to start him and refused to bring anyone else here to take his spot.  That's my theory anyway.  Had he allowed them to start any other less experienced QB's over Buck, Mack would have looked like a fool for bringing him in.  Hence when Mack was booted, Buck stopped being starter and started having all of these magical "injuries" that he all of a sudden had that no one would reveal.

So if you're going to be mad at someone, be mad at Mack for bringing him here.  He made Buck starter, and Buck tried his hardest, even if his hardest wasn't that great.  He wasn't a bad guy, and quite often he was the "face" of the Bombers during his time here, and he was pretty good at that part.  When you say good riddance to someone like that, you make it sound like it was his fault he was here or that he was some kind of a prick.  If you were in the same situation and they offered you the starting position, AS IF you're going to say "oh no...no I'm not good enough".  No one does that.

I'm glad he's not our QB anymore, but I still say good luck to him in his future endeavors.  And that's not sugar coating it, that's just being a decent human being.

Oh boy, this is a great question.  The answer I can assure you is not "work 18 hour days," at least if you're asking what he has to do for ME to want him as our GM next season.  But let's not flog that dead horse anymore.

Walters has made some in-roads, but he wouldn't be able to do enough IN-SEASON to warrant my selection.  There's just no incentive for the playoff teams to deal even surplus talent in-season for draft picks for a Poblah or Kohlert type.  The only way I see is if they suffer a key injury and need to acquire a quick fix from us.  So the Riders likely won't deal Chris Best, the Argos won't deal any of their surplus OL talent, and the Stamps likely won't deal any of their QB's until the end of the year.

Walters will likely have some clock before the GM search is concluded and the guy hired, and he'll also have Wade Miller's ear for inside information.  If Walters can engage other CFL GM's towards pre-dispersal draft deals to be made at end of season; that would be in his favour.  If he has a clear-cut free agency plan with contingencies, that will be a key piece as well.  If he has done all the CFL Draft scouting and has a plan of attack ready, that too would help.  And if he does all of these things, and has a few of his in-season acquisitions pan out successfully and project well for the next 3-5 years; it might just be enough to win the job.

I like Walters, he seems to have a good head on his shoulders, and appears calm, cool, and collected.  My main concern is whether or not he's too green for the job, especially a rebuild of this magnitude.  He's got skin in the game though, and is making what appear to be some upside moves right now. I think he's doing the right things.  I'm interested to see how it plays out.

Was Goltz shooting the lights out? No of course not, but the "take away this pass and that play" crowd need to get a life. Tanner Marsh throws a gazillion INT's but is a hero because he tosses up a prayer and it's answered. Our qb runs for two td's (one INT, yeah yeah crappy pass yardage) wins ugly and factions of the Bomber fan base still lay a steaming pile of sh!t at his doorstep. Can we not all just pile on Rider Nation in unison for one damned night LOL

I've come in here late, but I've got to tell you, you're way off on Suber tonight.
He had his best game in awhile out there, tackling, being on the ball and shutting down.
Another piece that was part of an outstanding defence today.

They held the 8-1 Saskatchewan Roughriders to 127 yards passing, 154 yards rushing and zero touchdowns. They sacked Durant 8 times. Dressler, Getzlaf, Bagg and Simon all had ONE catch each. There isn't a single member of that defence that deserves to be called a bum. Not one.
