  1. J. Cole is trash talking...the Bombers. Whatever the Bombers are doing with him, it's probably performance related...and his performance has not been related to good. Time to cut his asp.
  2. After Week 19 Bye Toronto 5 NOTABLE NUMBERS CFL 146: Points generated off turnovers by the Bombers this year, most in the CFL. 99.3: Matt Nichols’ QB rating, courtesy a 68.9 completion percentage and a 15:5 touchdown-to-interception ratio. 7: Interception totals for both Maurice Leggett and T.J. Heath, tied for first in the CFL. Leggett has also returned three of those for TDs. 1,547: The Bombers penalty yardage total this year, third most in the CFL. 4-4: Winnipeg’s home record this season. A win Saturday against Ottawa would give the club its first winning home season since going 5-4 in 2011. Derek Taylor Dropped interceptions by Defences Toronto 11p Calgary 9 Sask. 9 Edm. 8 Ham. 8 BC. 6 Mont. 5 Ottawa 5 Wig. 5 ?‍?This sounds sort of familiar - "10 points scored off of Stoudermire’s fumbles so far." Ed Willis - The Province BC LIONS - Against teams under .500, their record is 8-1. Before Saturday’s meeting with the Edmonton Eskimos, their record against teams over .500 was 1-5. ?‍?A big (6'2" 210 Lbs.) reason why BC Lions beat Edmonton last Saturday - Mainly Arceneaux. It was Mainly Manny because he was so powerful and he refused to be tackled. I heard Edmonton was taunting him, telling him how they were going to shut him down like the last time they met. I don't think that was a very good idea. Result - 132 yards and 2 TDs. The guy just made catches and bowled over opponents to get more yards. I guess they should have just zipped it. ?‍?Weird how Ottawa was in position to win their game last week against Hamilton, but instead of using the 'hot' Henry Burris in the final moments, they went conservative, and had to punt. They were too far away to try a FG. CFL.caStaff Hamilton has led the league in sacks for eleven out of 18 weeks of the 2016 season and currently sit in second, just two sacks behind the Calgary Stampeders. Kirk penton The CFL is on the verge of a couple of rare happenings. -The first one is in the East Division, where there is a mighty fine chance the first place team is going to finish with a losing record. That has never happened before. -The other oddity is road teams have still won more games than the home sides, and it looks like it's going to remain that way. -The CFL says 56% of its matches this season have been decided in the final three minutes. That is up from 54% last season but slightly down from 57% two years ago. CFL Headlines Lions’ Adam Bighill to appeal $500 fine for hit on Eskimos QB — and… goo.gl/fb/IOqaia @theprovince #CFL Kirk Penton Wpg Sun Hall has a different definition for big plays, which he calls “explosions.” Any time the opponent produces 15 yards on a play, it's an explosion. “That's what I told these guys the other day,” Hall said. “We've given up 140-something explosion plays of 15 plus yards, and we're 10-6. If we can cut down on those explosion plays, even just 10 percent, you're talking two or three a game. That might equate to two more wins. -Khalil Bass “When we get down inside the red zone we just focus on getting the ball, and 'zero, one, three' is our motto. We only give up zero points, one point or three points.” ?‍?Ho hum, another weekend of football, another blown officiating call. It's bad enough the call on the field is wrong/bad/missed/badly interpreted, but the review or the officials watching 'upstairs' should a) know the rule find the correct rule and finally c) have that ruling straightened out in a matter of a minute or two. Let's not give those, who want to downgrade this league, the means to do so. ?‍?Another bad injury - Andy Fantuz ?‍?How about that Nic Lewis. Lewis had a game-high eight catches for 94 yards on Sunday as he moved past Allen Pitts (966 receptions) and tied Darren Flutie (972) for fourth on the CFL’s all-time list. RT .@calstampeders Dickenson: Running back Tory Harrison popped his Achilles and is done for the season #CFL #Calstampeders Scott Fisher Calgary Herald Als rookie QB Vernon Adams is the ninth different starter the club has used in the 64 games since Anthony Calvillo’s last start -The Alouettes are 4-6 against the West. The rest of the East Division is a combined 6-19-1. Kirk Penton Barring any ties, there are eight outcome combinations from the games involving the Bombers, Lions and Eskimos on the final weekend of the CFL regular season. Six of those permutations have the Lions (11-6) finishing second, the Bombers (10-7) third and the Eskimos (9-8) fourth in the West Division. All have clinched playoff berths with the crossover in effect, and the Eskimos cannot finish second. -So it should all come down to the Blue and Gold. If they beat the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday night at TD Place they will finish third and visit the Lions in the West semifinal. If they lose to the Redblacks, they will travel to Hamilton and take on the Ticats in the East Division semifinal as the crossover team. ?‍?Have to mention Sinopoli's great leaping catch in front of Loffler, and between Leggett and Burnett. That catch put him over 1000 yards for the season. ?‍?Word is LaPolice is drafting a game plan that assures Harris will win the CFL rushing title. He only needs 284 yards... He is now only one back of Allen Pitts at #5 all-time with 966 and 7 back of Darren Flutie at 972 and #4. The Ti-Cats have done what no team has ever accomplished before. In 2016, they have come back from 15 or more points to win on three occasions. In CFL history, the most that any club has done that in one season is just twice. The Eskimos have come back from 10 or more points to win on three occasions themselves this season. Hamilton Sacks – In their 7 wins: 34 (4.9 per game); In their 9 losses: 13 (1.4 per game). Ottawa rolled up 514 yards of offence last week vs the Hamilton defence including 418 passing and 33 first downs. Addison ready to make his mark — and a catch “If it doesn't happen for me this year, I'm finally going to have an off-season where I'm healthy,” Richards said. “The last time I was healthy for an off-season was 2014, and that turned out pretty good (he led the CIS with 916 receiving yards). http://www.winnipegsun.com/2016/10/26/addison-ready-to-make-his-mark--and-a-catch ?‍?There is something else significant on the line this weekend: The first pick in next year's draft. If the Argos lose to the Eskimos, the Bombers will get No. 1 overall since they acquired Toronto's first round selection in the Drew Willy trade. If the Argos and Roughriders both lose, Toronto still finishes last and Winnipeg gets the first pick ... THE INSIDERS SAY -Kirk Penton CFL coaches and managers give their anonymous thoughts on what they’re talking about behind closed doors: I don't know his numbers. I don't keep up with that crap, but (Henry) Burris is the real MOP over in the East ... Dave Dickenson is the coach of the year. Keeping a team playing at a high level every week is extremely hard. By rights if he wanted to, they would have had the best record in league history. To do that as a first-year head coach is unparalleled. Also, he is the offensive co-ordinator and has a first-year defensive co-ordinator ... ?‍?(TBurgess, is this you?) Three minutes left, the score was 17-8. They could have kicked a 16 yard field goal and made it a one score game. He may be coach of the year, but Dave (Dickenson) (bleeped) up on that one ... I can understand why the Lions (brought back Paul McCallum), but I think they will end up disappointed. If you watched him last year he wasn't the same, especially as the year went on. I am guessing he hasn't kicked consistently for a year now. Last year Saskatchewan brought him in shortly after he had attended Lions training camp. Now, he still may be an improvement, so it may be the right move ... -Mike Beamish #CFL's all-time scoring leader, Lui Passaglia, retired at 46. Paul McCallum, No. 2 all-time scorer, coming out of retirement to play at 46. ?‍?Is it remarkable that the BC Lions have signed a 46 year-old to kick those oh-so-important place kicks? (Darian) Durant fumbled. They (bleeped) up that review. (Chris) Jones was right. It was illegal contact on the same play. They (bleeped) that up, too. And they (bleeped) up the onside kick in the Edmonton-Hamilton game. This is embarrassing ... (Paul) LaPolice gets conservative in big games. He did that Saturday when they lost to Ottawa ... ?‍?To that I say - yeah, we know. I played more football than everybody on that officiating crew combined. (Darian) Durant fumbled on that play ... The loss of (Andy) Fantuz will hurt Hamilton significantly. He was a great security blanket for both quarterbacks. They already lost two veteran presences, and he was the last one. They are going to have to win with specials and defence ... ?‍?Big time loss for Hamilton. If there's one thing the league needs to change in the off-season it's officiating and replay, more specifically the role and function of the command centre. How exactly? I'll have to get back to you on that one ... If the three non-playoff teams were a stock and I had to buy one, it would be the Riders. They have a younger roster that's extremely athletic. They have long players who can move. If you can sign the quarterback (Darian Durant), you have the best one available amongst those three teams. Defensively they really improved from the beginning of the year until now. They have the talent to be successful on offence and special teams. They are a year ahead of the process Toronto and Montreal will begin this off-season ... The Stampeders should win three league awards and possibly four: MOP, rookie, offensive lineman and defensive player ... Would I ever tank to get the crossover? No, based on my integrity. But if the playoff structure changed and it was the top teams, this wouldn't be an issue. No one has ever tanked that I know of, but if Edmonton crosses over they aren't complaining. And I can't get it down to just one... ?‍?-Rakeem Cato looked like a QB again against Calgary. It makes me pine for a QB who can run and prevent the D from coming on strong. Something that opposing Ds have done to us for years. I wish we could have a package(s) for a guy like Davis to throw off the opposition. But alas, I don't think we are forward thinking enough for that. ?‍?With all the talk about Ottawa resting a lot of their players, at what point does O'Shea sit our starting QB? ?‍?I agree with Eric M on the surprise on this one: Really? 3. Yeah, I saw how open Sinopoli was when he had to make a great leaping catch in front of, and behind - Leggett, Burnett, and Loffler. There was another Bomber whose number I didn't get because he flew by the play...just missing knocking down the ball. Must have been after that where Burris decided maybe it does matter..
  4. Didn't she already have a home-based business that she tried to make a go of? Something about making ear muffs? Had them designed with EE logos and plain ones ones too? But the business failed because she made them all too large. Apparently the failure was blamed on the male model she used...
  5. You won't have to worry. With the mindset we were in, in that game, you'd miss.
  6. Absolutely. Our QB situation does not include switching between QBs. So, you play Nichols to get him back on track. Where I don't agree with O'Shea is past the 4 minute mark or so, left in the game, depending on who has the ball. Play your backup - whoever that is. That should not be looked at as anything other than spotting your guy a few snaps, in live action. It appears we have a HC who doesn't believe in that..and that's too bad.
  7. THE WINNIPEG BLUE O M B E R S CROSS V E R 2016
  8. Let me say that the Bombers were certainly not sharp, and it all started early. Nichols. He has to play at a certain level. Yesterday, he did not. The turning point, in the game, came early. The 1st int. took away points for the Bombers and presented the RedBlacks with an offensive opportunity...which they quickly took advantage of. Nichols explained what happened on that fateful play, saying it was a 5-step dropback..to allow the play to develop. He took 3 steps back and threw. That's why Denmark wasn't ready and in position. Immediately, that was at least an 11 point turnaround. Not impossible to overcome, but not the way the offence was directed. And penalties. Once again, at the wrong time, penalties helped stall our offence. On the second series, needing only 2 yards for a 1st - holding on Normand, and we did not get the 2nd and 12 - punt. That's when Ottawa struck again. We moved the ball well in the first series. We would have scored. Just when we were going to move the ball well again - penalty, and no conversion. An offside penalty helped stall another early possession. Our offence was out of sync, and Nichols was not sharp. Bad combination. Plays that worked before..didn't work this time. We allowed 3 sacks. We only got 2. We were outplayed. It happens. The defence? Meh, Ottawa has the highest scoring offence in the league. They average over 26 points per game. We allowed 23. Meh. Special teams was a wash. There is no doubt that the person we've anointed as our starter, Matt Nichols, has to be sharper. We will not win unless he is.
  9. 1) Wish #1 this weekend: that the Bombers start to fulfil these words.. "I believe we've won a bunch of games differently... but we haven't arrived yet." - Coach O'Shea 2) Wish #2: that the Alouettes will pull off the mighty upset over the 'unbeatable' Stampeders, hopefully on a controversial call that has their coaching genius yelling until he loses his voice. Perhaps then he'll lose his high school voice and puberty will be over.
  10. Wild is one of my favourite players, but what can't be denied is the fact that he misses tackles..quite a bit. Quite close to 20% of the time. He's in good company though as Lacey, Sherritt are both over 20% in misses, and Venable is at 19%. Wild is always around the play, maybe sometimes too fast - hence, the misses, but, as in the other players mentioned, they would still be on my team.
  11. Kirk Penton - the Insider: @@@CFL coaches and managers give their anonymous thoughts on what they’re talking about behind closed doors: -No, (the two objectionable conduct penalties on the same play) didn't surprise me. Jason (Maas) used to work for us, and he loses his temper a lot. He cusses worse than any coach I've worked with or played for ...?‍?Maas/temper....mad = Maad -I played against Henry (Burris). I jog like an old man now, and he's still out there in his 40s running around and making plays against kids ... -When Edmonton beat us their offensive line held us all night. How they get away with that (bleep) is (bleeping) ridiculous ...?‍?Not the first time this has been said... -(Marc) Trestman and (Scott) Milanovich back to Montreal together ... -Calgary and Edmonton in the Grey Cup this year. I don't really know the East and selling tickets and all of that, but that's who I think will play in the Grey Cup unless something crazy happens likes a quarterback injury ... ?‍?Who should Toronto hire? -Not (Jim) Popp. He's (bleeped) up his franchise. I would call Trestman first. If he says no, call (John) Hufnagel and s.ee if he misses coaching. (Eric) Tillman's won three or four championships, but Hamilton's got (Kent) Austin and him now. I don't know what the Argos should do, but they have to hire a proven winner .. -Would I play (Bo Levi) Mitchell this week? As a coach I would say yes. Maybe the first half only, but it's risky. Tough call on (Jerome) Messam, too. Losing a Canadian like him would be a kick in the balls ... -When you coach in this league long enough, you learn to expect surprises. What about a BC-Hamilton Grey Cup? (Wally) Buono and Austin know how to win in November, and those teams have the players to get there ... -Edmonton's defence gave a terrible effort and had poor tackling against B.C. It looked like B.C. was playing for their playoff lives and Edmonton was going through the motions ... -(Vernon) Adams showed he can move around the pocket and make some big plays. Not sure how he will be as a pocket passer . -The league's most outstanding defensive player is Moe Leggett ... -The Tiger-Cats will be better with (Zach) Collaros back, but Zach is nicked up. He's not the same guy right now ... -Messam is the top Canadian. (Ted) Laurent, (Andy) Fantuz and (Alex) Singleton are the next best ... -What's going on in Ottawa? It seems like the room may be split over the quarterbacks. Also, this year's offensive line and defensive backs haven't played with the same consistency as a year ago ... -If I'm Dave (Dickenson) I would start every one of my starters in Montreal. They have a bye the last week of the season plus the first round bye. I'm not giving my starters three weeks off ... -(Bryan) Burnham is the most underrated player in the league. Larry Dean, (Taylor) Loffler and Jeremiah Johnson should also get more love than they're getting ... -For the first time in history a crossover team will be in the Grey Cup. Calgary versus Edmonton. LOL ... -The Redblacks are struggling to find themselves, especially offensively. Injuries are catching up to them. 146 – Points the Bombers have scored off turnovers 40 – Points the Redblacks have scored off turnovers
  12. It's not only the mighty TSN. Get this, CBC sports has the BC Lions moving up from #5 to #2 - ahead of the Bombers. Mind you, they had the Bombers in #3 anyways because they had Edmonton at #2 last week. TSN, CBC. - both NTB (not too bright) If someone wanted to present the perfect reasoning to void power rankings, they could look to these rankings. It's another reason I prefer to refer to them as powder rankings..due to their flawed make up...
  13. This, on my iPad when ticking the previous number 91 from 92. And yet, if I press previous, the page loads up. This is on chrome. I will try it on safari, and keep you posted.
  14. Here's Coach O'Shea's words - “He’s a fiery competitor,” added Bombers head coach Mike O’Shea. “He loves being a teammate. You see him out there working hard when he wasn’t getting the ball, working hard to block, getting in the fray and mixing it up and standing up for his teammates. And when you threw him the ball he was trying to make big plays for his teammates. More - from Matt Nichols - “He’ just a playmaker,” said Bombers quarterback Matt Nichols. “He’s a guy that makes plays when it looks like they’re not there. He’s an attitude, difference maker for us where he’ll run a guy over, make a big block and get everyone excited. He just kinda changes everyone’s attitude in the middle of a game. You feel like there can be a little bit of a lull at the time and he’ll make a crazy play or run someone over and get everyone fired up and it rolls from there…. Everyone else sees what he’s doing and they want to be doing the same thing. Funny, I don't see the words "if he only applied himself" anywhere in there..
  15. I like Derek Taylor's statistics, but this statistical category carries no weight. I've never considered Kohlert to be a yac-yard guy. I want him to be where he's supposed to be, and make that catch. As for Denmark, yes, Tds do restrict his count, but give him open space and he does fine. He makes tough catches, often in close quarters...same as Tasker. And some of the catches Cunningham makes are ridiculous. No use following this stat category...it gets no yardage in my books.
  16. So, on one hand, Adams dogs it. Or appears to. On the other hand, he gets great stats. Or appears to. Maybe we need someone who can determine his true worth, and how that can be done. Now, let's see, who can make that determination....?
  17. Each game roster is based on who they're playing and the weaknesses of same. Players in and out of the lineup to suit that need. That only makes sense. Poor recognition of talent? Again, you're basing that on after-fact. Many players are cut pre-season, during season and after season, and go on to have careers with other teams. And I still wouldn't count out Mayo. But I guess we're the only team to cut usable players eh? And I guess the talent of the players we did keep..the ones that helped us get where we are, are flukes..they don't count, right?
  18. Yes, there were injuries..lots of injuries. But it doesn't change the premise of what I was saying. All teams suffer injuries, but the deeper depth of veteran players helps alleviate that. There's a balance, and the Riders didn't have that.
  19. That's such malarkey. Because they chose veterans over rookies? - who might not be ready - for whatever reasons. Who the hell would ever do that? Or - based on how things turned out? The burgess method of solid lineup determining based on looking back over the year?
  20. More transactions for the Riders. Which makes me ask the question... I heard the riders are going to have a healthy stack of money to sign players for next year. I also know that the Riders were close in many games this year. But, if you put those two facts together, it makes me wonder why Jones couldn't have paid a couple of players the money that might have pushed them over the top, and kept the fans more engaged.. Chick, Dressler, and a couple more vets, maybe get them closer? Would the CFL West division have been even tighter if Jones had followed a more even approach to building a roster? I have to wonder if he didn't outthink himself...
  21. There must be something to the Neufeld saga that we aren't aware of..
  22. Yes, of course. Wrong poster for that line of thinking..
  23. Really? A massive fail? We're tied with BC in wins right now, but it would only take 1 bad PI call against us and we're back in third, or worse. I guess I just can't agree with that line of thought.
