https://t.co/FSAcKP3qNm WINNIPEG, MB., January 28, 2019 – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has re-signed national linebacker Thomas Miles to a one-year extension. He has recorded 26 special teams tackle and nine defensive tackles in 36 games over that span. Prior to signing in Winnipeg, Miles spent three seasons with the Toronto Argonauts after being selected 33rd overall in the 2014 CFL Draft. Through his five CFL seasons, Miles has recorded 67 defensive tackles, 42 special teams tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble in 76 career games.

the key is that the Bombers have known about this for awhile and have been planning for it. We'll be just fine...

It's good to have depth......

@DarrinBauming FollowingFollowing @DarrinBauming More Matthias Goossen will retire from pro football to pursue a career in police work back in his home province of British Columbia. There was a reason the #Bombers had a priority in securing Michael Couture last week prior to free agency opening. He’s likely the new starting centre.

WINNIPEG, MB., January 29, 2019 – Winnipeg Blue Bombers centre Matthias Goossen has informed the team he has decided to retire from professional football. Statement from Matthias Goossen: “After much prayer and consideration, I have decided to end my football career. Firstly, I want to thank my family, and especially my wife, for being a constant source of support over the course of my football career. I also want to thank my teammates who made my five years of playing professional football a true blessing, and am especially thankful for the brotherhood of offensive linemen who made it a privilege every day to come into work. I want to thank Coach O’shea and coach Marty Costello for being two of the best coaches I have ever had. The Blue Bombers organization has been great to me over these past 5 years, and I am so grateful to have played for a team that does so much for its players and community. Lastly, I want to thank the people of Winnipeg. I have met so many great people here and can say that this city has felt like home over my 5 seasons wearing the blue and gold.” Statement from Blue Bombers General Manager Kyle Walters: “First off, we would sincerely like to thank Matthias for his work and dedication to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. From the moment we drafted him in 2014, Matthias has shown tremendous professionalism both on and off the field. His work in the community is something we are very proud of, and he represented the Blue Bombers the right way. As far as our roster is concerned, Matthias was gracious enough to inform us of this decision quite some time ago, so we have been working accordingly. He is a fantastic young man, and we wish him all the best moving forward.” Goossen was originally selected by Winnipeg in the first round, second overall, in the 2014 CFL Draft. He dressed for 87 career regular season games, making 64 starts. He also started all four playoff games during his time with Winnipeg.

This discussion could probably be moved to the WHL Moves To Winnipeg thread, but an interesting note that I got from someone who works for that The Rink company, is that these guys actually went to TNSE and asked for their blessing before making the move to bring in the Dub team, so there is that, at least...
-
Yeah, if I was living anywhere near the city, I'd get Dub seasons in a HEARTBEAT to go along with Bombers seasons...no question. It's phenomenal hockey...and the thought of Wpg getting a Mem Cup at some point....hooooo....that's good stuff.

once they get that barn built for them out on McGillvary west, it's going to be a GREAT place to see a game. Like a much fancier version of the old Selkirk Rec Complex (I still remember when that was first built and how nice it was). As a broadcasting nerd, I'm really excited who's going to pick up the rights to broadcast their games and cover them full time (I would think TSN will have their hands full, but maybe....and OB is always an option...)
-
I honestly think the Dub will do fine in Winnipeg...I think this is more of a blow to the Moose. I know I personally would rather watch Dub than A....

the best thing about this piece, is Dunk seemingly only posted it to make the point that Jones was desperate to get out of Riderville at any cost....had zero interest in being there. That oughta make some heads explode...

It's interesting that we haven't said a word about our coaching staff for 2019. Every other team ( I think...) has had an announcement about the coaching staff, and virtually everyone has had to make changes of some sort because of the new management SMS. Hopefully we're not losing anyone, anyhow...

this is an apt post.....you almost NEVER see someone step into the CFL and tear it up in their first year. It takes at least a year of seasoning before they're ready to go. A proven vet receiver, someone you know can get it done, makes way more sense. Still, always hope we can recruit SOMEONE that will eventually be ready one day...

I'm doing my best to be polite about it, but she's the weak link on that team. Birchard should be the third and find someone else to play front end.
-
Fart noises. Sweeting let them down today. They'll still get into Scotties by virtue of the wildcard play-in game...

I love Dressler but he can't play 18 games anymore. I would love to have him back at a discounted rate.
