You are making the problem too complex. This is a player playing without confidence and he's trying to get yards the "easy" way by stretching it horizontally. You see it happen all the time to runningbacks who are struggling.

I was under the impression that Crowton basically copied it all anyway and that Pierce was just incapable of of actually making the quick reads. He's never really been a cerebral player, always a guy who got by on his moxie.

The argos were a team that needed great D, scoring from special teams and their D to force turnovers in order to win games prior to Ray showing up and I don't recall you evey saying how poorly they were constructed. Point is absolutely valid, if you don't have a qb your team is more than likely going to suck unless everything else goes right.

I think you're over stating how attatched to Pierce Mack is. Not like he ran out and grabbed him immediately, he initially wanted no part of him but signed him anyway just because of lack of options. This past offseason I definitely got the impression that Mack was willing to move on from Pierce but Burke was the one who was adamant about keeping him. To me it's a GM giving the coach the player he wanted and trusting him. Ends up a mistake but I do think that if a GM believes in his coach then he has to give him the kinds of players that he wants.

We've seen games where Crowton has demonstrated all those things though, ultimately you still need to execute in order for an offense to work.

I dunno, he got pretty reasonable numbers out of the ticats when he was there as OC. He may not be a great OC at this point, but he definitely does seem like he knows what he is doing in the job.

just looking at the stats, wow hamilton turned in a bomber bad offensive performance. Nothing running the ball, nothing passing the ball, sounds like all around ugly.

well the best way to beat Ray is to keep him on the sidelines. String together some long drives, score some points, you know all the things the bombers offense is totally unable to do.

but even blitzing all the time isn't guaranteed to stop him, he knows how to read and react to that. You actually have to get to him all the time.

I'm just saying until this team stops firing coaches every 2 years and GMs every 3 or 4 years chances of developing a new qb are slim to none.
