Best thing that happens is that Brohm shows well again and we don`t need to worry about playing a beat up Willy in the future because we trust the backup to get the job done. Willy is the starter and that`s not changing any time soon, but getting trust in the backup... that would be a huge boost.

Well listen to O'Shea's interview. First thing he said is he wants bigger guys there to stop the run.OShea tends to speak diplomatically about all his players. Giving a positive about Unamba rather than a negative about Dunn would be how he prefers to do things.I didn't take "bigger" as a positive. But maybe that's how you interpret it. It's an answer to the question that is both valid and doesn't speak negatively about one of his players. Exactly. And seems to question Etch's defensive philosophy all season. nah just look at it as OShea not coming out and saying "yeah Dunn hasn't been good lately" instead he simply does what he has done all year and protect his players from criticism in public. This really just looks to me like rewarding good special teams play, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Is it necessary to hire coordinators with CFL experience?17to85 replied to B-F-F-C's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion Who says they are? The most successful CIS HCs don't want to leave for the CFL, generally speaking. more stability and likely higher pay being a cis head guy than working up through the cfl ranks

That's why PVRs and last channel buttons were invented. I

You didn't mention the Willy trade. Walters has done something that other GMs couldn't - get us a QB. That alone gives him an A in my books. This year was a bit of a different situation though, there were probably 4 different qbs available that would have been a decent pickup, that hasn't happened in a while. Hell when Mack first got here he did a similar thing and grabbed Pierce and Jyles as the two guys who were the best FA pickups in the CFL.

MPI gives me far better rates than the company that I work for (that sells auto insurance in the US). Not sure where this myth comes from. It really all depends. I don't know what MPI charges anymore but I know when I moved to Alberta being an under 25 male I got hammered on my rates. Hit 25 though and it's not so bad with a clean record. I think the issue with MPI is that they seem to turn a pretty healthy profit, they could probably stand to lower their rates. A lot of people don't really like to see crown corporations earning a profit would rather see discounted rates.

The CFL season is short enough as is, why would you pass on any game? Sometimes the ones that look like terrible games are the most interesting. If you're a fan of the CFL I just don't see how you don't watch the game.

looks to me it's more a case of Dunn has been kind of invisible lately and Unamaba has done good work on special teams and earned a shot at linebacker.
-
It's OK, not everyone is a real CFL fan.

It didn't happened because we are starting 3 OL. Well that's kind of my point. They needed to adjust the ratio to make it happen weeks ago because 3 imports on the OL wasn't doing jack **** but Sears on the D could sure have helped.
-
Very interesting stuff there. Very interested in seeing how this configuration on the OL works and how Unamba looks in comparison to Dunn. Sears starting over Sherman should have happened weeks ago.

I'll give you 3. DeVone Claybrooks is the DL coach with the Stamps & Huff was going to promote him to DC as he thought he was ready until Rich Stubler became available. Tony Missick is the linebacker coach here in Calgary & from all accounts may be ready for a DC position. He has NCAA & CFL experience. Barron Miles in Saskatchewan is supposed to be a very good coach & may be ready to step up to DC. Now maybe I'm confused here but it sounds to me like Mr Dee is describing wanting a young Etch....

We can't say that until Cotton actually gets a chance to run with the ball. Against Edmonton he split time in the backfield a lot and when he did get the ball. Look at the first two hand offs to the guy, one was that stupid outside run they do where they give him the ball going parallel to the line and never block for him so he's met by 3 or 4 defenders before the LOS, the second the OL got completely destroyed and he was hit almost immediately. I think he got one other handoff in the first half. That's hardly giving your running back a chance to show what he can or can't do. Grigsby got 14 games to show what he can do. I am left with the impression that Bellefeuile just doesn't like Cotton because they never commit to using the guy when he's in there. Limited handoffs, giving him the ball running sideways too much.
-
You can find no less than 100 post this year where it is stated Lawless is as useless as they come yet you use him to support a comment from another guy that is also considered a useless writer. A marriage of convenience. I will admit Grisby's production went down the crapper. He might have been a cancer but until Mr. Insider gets a name tag I am not about to take it all as the truth. The reason his production went down is most times he got the ball the opposing dline was past our oline and waiting for him. The reason our QB is getting killed and our running game stinks is all on the Ol;ine. Cotton had 31 yards on 8 carries and that including one of 15 yards. Try this: Find the Ottawa game on the PRV and skip to the plays where we are running. Jog until you are at the point where Willy makes the hand off. From there single frame forward 15 frames which will be half a second after Grisby got the ball. See what he's looking at and tell me where's the hole he's supposed to go through. Try this, find the games where he actually had a hole and hesitated to allow the defense to close it, or the times when he went down at an arm tackle, or the times when he managed to be in the open field and find his own blocker to run into.... Everyone knows that the OL got stuffed a bunch and there was no running room, the issues with Grgisby come from the times when he had room to work with and failed to capitalize.
-
	That is absolutely mind blowing...
-
The fact that it looks like Joseph is going to play is so LOL worthy... damned shame Durant didn't get hurt in the first game with the Bombers not the last.
-
god damn it people you all really really need a lesson in spotting obvious sarcasm

no one has said they don't count, the main issue is that we have had to use guys off the scrap heap that other teams don't have any use for because we can't recruit players. Talking about the Kuales and the Romby Bryants etc. With proper recruiting you don't need those guys around. You should be able to find rookies down south. I am willing to give them more time because changing regimes can make that first year iffy, but it vital that they do a better job this offseason.
-
Do you want a medal? The only people who didn't predict the results from Etchevary when his name was first brought up as a candidate were the sunshine and rainbows crowd who buy every thing the team does hook line and sinker. But here's the real kicker, he's actually been better than most of us predicted he would be. I don't like the bend but don't break defense, but they have made teams kick a lot of field goals and there's only been a few times they have really pooched the team. The offense right now is a far far bigger concern than the D.
-
The main point here is that the bolded were all guys who were in the CFL previously. As I said, he did some good work in free agency but a lot of those guys were plucked off the scrap heap and many of them shouldn't be starting at all and I'd argue are only starting because of how poor the recruitment has been. The cupboards were not nearly as bare as people make them out to be. This team without guys like Denmark and Washington and Wild and Turner would be absolutely terrible. The only guys of note that were recruited this past offseason were Johnson and Legett and I don't doubt that they would have been fine in the secondary playing Suber instead of Johnson either.
-
Grigsby was fast and had good hands and in space he was pretty solid. Problem is that he went down way way too easily. arm tackles knocked him down with ease and I don't think he was particularly good at reading his blocking and anticipating where the holes would be. The OL hasn't been good enough this season make no mistake and the run game would always have some issues beause of that, but make no mistake Grigsby if he wasn't a down on first contact/run into people running back could have had some more success. Stop ******* around with Cotton and give him an actual decent chance and I guarantee he does no worse than Grigsby and probably better running the ball
-
nah it's not twitter that undoes these guys, that just gives the general public a window into their stupidity. Stupid is as stupid does and twitter or not they'd get into the same trouble.
-
Hardly. Most of the starters for this team are guys Mack brought in. Walters did some nice work in FA, but he's so far behind Mack in terms of recruiting American players at this point that it's not even a fair comparison. As for drafting we need more time to see just what Walters brings to the team in that regard.

Loose lips sink ships. The reasoning is that O'Shea is very protective of everyone in his organization, his coaching staff, his players, no one gets thrown under the bus, he is putting all the spotlight on himself. The way the reporters in Winnipeg as leading or trapping questions he doesn't want to take the chances of someone slipping up and causing a controversy with an innocent comment that gets spun into something bigger. This isn't about him not trusting his coaching staff to say the right message, it's about recognizing what a bunch of morons the media in Winnipeg are. They like to take innocent quotes and spin controversy and try and lead people down a line of questioning to fit the column they want to write.

An Oline does not need to be 5 all star players, although I'd gladly take 5. If you have a couple of A's and B+'s on your Oline, a guy who's probably not better than a C can fit in and do a fine job - he's surrounded by players who make him look better. They have enough talent and cohesion as a unit to do the job. The best Olines in the league, the A+ crews, are not made up of 5 A+ guys. Their play as a group is elevated by the presence of a few superior individuals. We have a couple of B's surrounded by C's. As a unit, they play like a D. No one is surrounded by enough talent that their flaws can be masked. Instead they all manage to make each other look a little worse. Their play as a group is torpedoed by the presence of a few average individuals and zero superior ones. Whoever did the colour commentary on CJOB Monday made a telling statement - he said he couldn't figure out why the Bombers let Justin Sorenson go, he looked fine in Edmonton this year. Justin Sorenson could have looked "fine" in Winnipeg too, if he'd been surrounded by better players, like he is in Edmonton. He is completely average, and playing here would probably have looked anywhere from unspectacular to awful. So yes, I agree, we only need to make a couple of changes to get greatly improved play from our Oline. We don't have to upgrade every spot, but the spots we upgrade have to be with premium players. Replacing Morley with Neufeld and Sorenson with Morley might technically mean 2 spots were slightly upgraded from the year before, but without at least 2 powerful swimmers anchoring this line, this unit will continue to drown. Well part of it is that Sorenson and Morley are basically the same guy. They are servicable centres but anywhere else they're not doing you a whole lot of good. The idea I am sure was having a solid left side with January and Greaves with a solid Morley at centre, then you just need to figure out the RT and RG, Walters obviously had a lot of faith in Neufeld being one of those guys, then find the other guy from all the options you have around. The problem though is that the guys on the left side have had pretty poor seasons by their standards and Neufeld has spent more time on the IR than the roster it seems like and the other guys they've used on the right side haven't been up to par. A lot of things going wrong. When the guys you expected to be solid for you aren't playing or aren't playing well and the new people just aren't very good the whole thing goes to hell in a hand basket. To be completely honest I thought the OL started the year servicably, but in the last little while it's fallen apart completely.
