  1. I think you do need to if you don't have that #1 guy in house. Willy needs dependable weapons. Moore as many point out does not have that reputation yet... but if you wait for the guy's resume to fill out... you usually miss out on him during his prime. That's why I like the idea of acquiring Moore now. As long as we're not paying him $200,000 on the hope of him growing into that paycheque.
  2. Nick Moore isn't an elite #1 receiver unless he takes a quantum leap this off-season. If Denmark is utilized like he was in the 2nd half of the season 2013 he's a 1200 yard receiver. I'd say they are pretty comparable in terms of showing some good ability but being somewhat inconsistent in terms of production. Denmark has better hands, Moore is a bigger target, both really good route runners. I wonder if we are looking at Moore as a boundary WR to replace Matthews. He really didn't do well at that spot in BC 2012 and finally grabbed a spot inside after they dealt Geroy. That boundary WR spot is the one we need to fill.
  3. That's about the only thing about him I don't like. Moore would be the type of receiver I'd like to have on my team because he has potential to be great, but I'm not getting into a bidding war for him. He's really inconsistent so far.
  4. He'll lose that competition to Cauchy based on passport alone.
  5. Hard to see where Ferri fits on our team, even without knowing what we have in the young imports we've signed. We're covered at WIL, Banks is probably going to play SAM or some hybrid position that takes that spot, Ferri is no better at HB than the DB's we've already got.
  6. You're right. There is no difference between judging people on their character, personality, judgement and poor management/writing and judging people based solely on elements of their humanity that they don't control like gender, race and sexuality.
  7. Nope. You have it backwards. Nothing should be assumed, and there are good and bad people of all kinds. The problem with what Turner said is that he is making the assumption that a gay teammate is going to be hankering for a peek at his junk, and implies that is a good reason to not have a gay teammate at all. It's just following on stereotypes. Imagine if a white player or coach commented that the city will be sold out of fried chicken or something like that when a black player is signed. It's ignorant even if it is said in jest.
  8. Which makes it even worse for Ottawa. They should have got him for basically nothing.
  9. It was hugely ignorant (which is basically a nice way of saying that we hope that Turner doesn't actually believe what he said) and ignorance like that is what creates an environment where certain people are excluded for reasons unrelated to being a good professional football player. It's the exact kind of crap that was said about different races joining the locker room. Another ignorant comment is to equate a homosexual man with a female. Good job! What Bruce said is right out of the bigotry handbook...although he managed to slip ****, ass and coochie in the sentence prior. I'd rather have 10 gay football players on my team who are good players and teammates than 1 Arland Bruce.
  10. Well, if you sign Emry (who btw IMO is one of the most overrated players in the league) you are basically taking yourself out of the running for Henoc Muamba if he gets cut by the Colts during the CFL season. I don't think the Bombers even contacted Emry.
  11. That is a really bad trade for Ottawa. They dealt swapped 3rds this year and handed Calgary a 3rd in 2015 (a good draft) for a guy at the end of his career who has never been more than a rotational DE and struggled to stay healthy for much of his career. They'll get less for Glenn. If this is how Desjardins is valuing picks, Ottawa is screwed.
  12. Perfect situation to create with a well-connected veteran CFL player when you are relying on free agency to stock your roster. I think the other managers around the league are laughing collectively, while Cohon and Hunt are face palming.
  13. I feel like if South Park made an episode about Desjardins as a GM, every mention of him would be followed by "dum dum dum dum dum."
  14. Is Glenn going to last here more than 1-2 seasons? If the answer is no, don't bother trading for him. Stay the course, rebuild, commit to developing younger QB's. He doesn't make this team a contender in the West.
  15. Bye bye Stewart. I like Randle a lot, he's the only FA import DB I thought we'd go after. I think he'll play field corner if everyone is healthy, but can play the weak-side too, mostly where he lined up for Calgary. WCB- Sears WHB- Washington S- ? Muamba SHB- Suber/Markett SCB- Randle/McGee Nickel/SAM- Banks/Dunn Dime- Bucknor That's kind of what our depth chart looks like at DB in terms of CFL veterans.
  16. Forzani is hurt. He can't play.... His recovery is not going very well. It may be months before he plays, if ever. Sounds like Marcellus Bowman. Bowman had a pretty run of the mill knee injury, just needed recovery time. Forzani is in a lot of trouble with his ankle/foot.
  17. Gonna be some anxious moments out east come July. At least we had the old stadium to use in 2012.
  18. He's a great punter. Wouldn't count on an undrafted CIS kicker who has never teed one up in the CFL to be anything.
  19. I'd rather bring Palardy back than Congi. Yuck. Same problems, "accurate" kickers with no leg. If they aren't hitting 90% inside 40, they are killing you with lousy kickoffs and lack of range.
  20. "Grassroots" football is non-existent in most of Atlantic Canada and the AUS football conference is dying a slow death as the game grows in Quebec and the West. It's not a hotbed.
  21. Anyone signing him will just be paying him to sit on the 9 game list. I could see Calgary doing it out of loyalty if they think he's ever going to play again.
  22. Based on what we saw from Fitzgerald last year in the pre-season, he won't be long-snapping the CFL outside of an emergency situation where 2-3 other guys go down in a game. There are other guys who can do it in an emergency, but I suspect we'll be adding a long snapper ahead of training camp.
  23. Emry is one of the biggest tools in the league. Even as a veteran he takes incredibly stupid, selfish penalties. Add health concerns with concussions and spotty play, I don't think the market for him will be all that strong.
  24. Butler to BC...Emry and Bourke stay with Montreal...Laurent to the NFL. Chris Milo to the Als. Alex Hall and Ricky Schmiit to the NFL. Cordarro Law to the NFL. Jovon to the Als. Brandon Stewart lands in Ottawa. Anthony Parker signs with Edmonton. Jamall Johnson gets no offers. Bombers sign Kohlert, re-sign Sorensen, Gilmore and West. Other Bomber targets IMO: David Lee, Andrew Jones, Carey Koch, Chris Randle, Noel Divine and Jock Sanders (Mountaineer reunion, Bellefeuille likes the RB/REC Holmes/Thigpen types), Matt Carter, Mike Bradwell, Damaso Munoz.
  25. Those are interesting comparisons. Getzlaf has a big body, but doesn't have great speed or hands like Etienne, doesn't have the length of Etienne or his U of R contemporary Chris Bauman (who is actually a really good comparable for Etienne). Getzlaf is a receiver though, he didn't bully short DB's in CIS or run by guys slower than him and catch rainbows, he developed into a receiver in CIS. He struggled to get a shot in the CFL because he didn't have great anything, he could just play. In his first season where he got regular snaps he had over 500 yards. Getzlaf is more like a Coehoorn (although Coehoorn was much higher rated) was in that draft, just a solid football player (about the same age too 24-25 at the draft), but doesn't leap off the page with athleticism or size, just produces on offence and special teams. Stala is like Etienne in that IIRC he didn't line up at receiver for St. Mary's until his 2nd or 3rd year, he did placekick and punt for them. His development track would have been what the Bombers were looking for out of Etienne (a couple years to develop, 1000 yards in his 3rd season, minus the 2 years missed to injury after that), although Stala was a very late pick for the Als.
