BC is only 2-5 because our right tackle was out and our defense can’t tackle.

Ceresna is terrible. Our DL is the worst it’s been since 2015. YAY SACKS! I don’t think Ceresna or Moxey would have been signed if we didn’t give them an offer. At least until camp/early season if someone needed a vet injury replacement. We did have to beat out BC for Broxton and Hamilton and BC for Nield. Damn near everyone else has been finding a good Canadian receiver out of basically every draft.

He basically said in post-game the whole just run the ball offense in the first quarter was based on BC only having one practice.

Watch how Montreal runs tunnel screens right up the middle of the field throwing to a guy who is running with a head of steam going vertically instead of firing screens out 30 yards across the field to a guy who is flat footed with the defense given all the time in the world to get out there to make the tackle or even make a play on the ball.

MOS is way too fixated on days of practice, days between games for both his team and the next opponent. Once everyone's dressed and on the field it does not matter. Get back to 1-0 this week thinking.

Best remedy to that is challenging the ball, get the ball back. Instead our D scheme is more like, here's a free 7 yards, make it 15, 20 or 50 if we miss a couple tackles.

Well anyone running a vertical is a threat to a defense that will create space. Wilson, White, Demski are all threats once they have a head of steam if you let them open up the hips of the DB's. At the very least you run two of those guys vertical almost every pass play and you have opened up a ton of space for the other 3-4 guys going out for routes. You run them across the field and you put teams playing zone in a bind....like how everyone is doing to us when guys don't know their adjustments. Especially in the red zone we are just committing schematic suicide by running a bunch of short routes and nothing to the post or corner. One play sticks in my mind we didn't convert, on the play side we ran all hooks on like a 2nd and 8, Nield ran a corner to the field other than that every single route was at about 6 yards of depth. And BC just sitting on all of them. It's honestly hard to believe Condell is as useless as he is. Like you'd think he's trying to commit an act of sabotage. BC had a guy playing SAM for basically the first time ever at this level last night. Why the hell wouldn't you isolate him by formation on White/Wilson/Demski on some vertical routes, double moves?

I think we have opposite problems on each side of the ball. D I wholeheartedly agree. Opponents are snapping the ball and we aren't even ready to play, especially in the secondary. Our guys on the field don't know how they are supposed to adjust their alignment to what the offense is showing, don't know what their responsibilities are. The reality of those positions on the field is you don't have even a half second to stop your feet and think. You need to know what you are doing even before the snap, can't figure it out as the play evolves. You can have all the best ideas as a coach and if the players can't execute it it's worth zero. Need to trust the players ability to make plays and give them a chance. Offense is way over simplified and can almost feel the players chafing under Condell. Our run game is the same inside zone play right or left, cross formation from whichever side of the QB Brady is lined up on. We come out and run that play successfully for a drive, and then don't see it for 2 quarters. We run a whole drive of jet sweeps and then never use that motion again. We run a nice screen, and then we run the exact same play 3 of our next 4 snaps. We have no vertical routes on most of our plays. So when we keep hitting those screens they work less and less because all of the defenders are waiting within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. 2 of our 4 biggest pass plays (not including jet sweeps counted as passes, forward laterals) were just Brown firing the ball out to the field WR when BC forgot about them, Cobb and Clercius. Why aren't we passing off the jet motion? Why aren't we using playaction? We can't pass protect 5 and 7 step drops, so you have to scheme to make a passing game work. If we have a strength it's Brady. And we need to build from that. I don't really know if there's a method to Condell's bundling of the same playcalls but it certainly isn't effective at all.

I see and hear Jefferson and Ceresna being highlighted as a positive. BC's entire game plan was to go right at those guys. Their lack of discipline as veteran players is where all of the problems on our D start. Pass plays, no discipline on the pass rush, open up escape lanes for Salter. Zone read, Ceresna getting walled off and Horvath going 8 yards untouched or Jefferson getting baited to come inside and Salter having free run to the edge. I don't really give a rip about 1 sack and 1 knockdown a game if you're getting beaten like a rented mule 30 snaps a game. That was basically BC's 4th OL they've used in less than half a season. Multiple guys playing their first games, rookies. And we are getting bullied all over the field. We gotta know they are going to run zone read over and over again. We're getting baited to crash the backfield against a QB that doesn't even want to throw the ball over and over again. This is basic stuff. BC brings in a tight end, or goes double tight and puts all their receivers to the field. Our boundary corner (Williams) doesn't even know where to line up. He keeps looking around and ends up lining up at 10 yards depth over the centre. We end up with no contain man to the boundary and BC just attacks this repeatedly with Horvath and Salter. Our D don't know their assignments well enough to adjust to formation. What exactly are we doing during the week to prepare for games?

They'd need a settlement to release him. Otherwise can keep on NFI list or shift to PUP reserve list if they think they might activate him later this season or have him sit on IR all season. Can't get out of contract guarantees that easy.

If Detroit cuts him, they'll have to pay out an injury settlement. Manu will have earned a little over $3 million USD. He's not going to be in a rush to head up here. He'll wait through another off-season cycle and see if he gets into a NFL camp next year which is pretty likely. He's a 6'8 guy with a 7 foot wingspan who can move his feet. NFL teams aren't going to forgot that even if Detroit has struggled to develop him so far.

Bombers D will have to be prepared for BC to go tempo and to defend RPO. Only way they are going to move the ball with Salter at QB.

If you want to better understand the modern coverages everyone is running, watch Lapolice's YouTube videos from a couple years ago. There's basically 3 main coverage shells (2 high "Cover 2", 3 high "Cover 3," Quarters "Cover 4") plus man ("Cover 0," "Cover 1") and then variations within...."match coverage" is basically playing different shells/concepts to field and boundary really trying to disrupt routes and QB's first read. Lapo has videos on all of it plus a lot of different passing concepts. Everyone runs all of those coverages. The variations are important and really the important part is the leverage they want DB's in at certain situations. That's what ends up giving more passive or aggressive looks. Example that Philpot TD...Calgary has one guy wide to the field, in-line tight end....to the field we have Griffin man up on the tight end, Kelly in middle hook/curl (he'd take any short crosser from the boundary too) and spying VA since he's got a view to the ball, Moxey PASSIVE outside leverage on Philpot he's at 15 yards and dropping straight out even as Philpot cuts, Nichols in a deep middle zone/inside leverage. Moxey doesn't even cross the numbers until Philpot catches the ball, barely even reacts to his post route. So we're in a Cover 4 shell that play (could be man to boundary because Calgary is running 2 verticals to boundary, we end up with all 4 of our DB's across the 45 yard line when Philpot catches the ball), passive, don't get beat deep....but we're 4 on 2 eligibles to the field, and the tight end blocks....so we've got 4 guys assigned to cover 1 guy running a route to the field. Kelly recognizes this and starts to hammer into the pocket on delayed blitz, Griffin stays with tight end. We have Moxey and Nichols just out there to guard Philpot and there's no recognition of that. Moxey should be able to read that and switch his leverage to get right onto Philpot's hip and go play the ball knowing he has deep help to the inside. You would think as a DB you'd want to go get the ball. And when we routinely have 8-9 guys in coverage there shouldn't be so much space underneath intermediate routes. We're not making reads and playing as a unit.

Think he's referring to film study and it is a lot different...the truth. You can see every single decision made on a play by every single player on the field and know if it's right or wrong, what made a play work or not, who did their job and who didn't.

Here's the main thing I've learned about defense in my lifetime with football. Great defenses take the ball away. They make plays that score points, put pressure on opposing offenses and support their offense to score points If you're running a defense fixated on not giving up points, you lose. Any big plays against you are even more magnified. That's where we have been since Younger has taken over. You can't win like this. Like the Montreal Grey Cup. D didn't play bad, but couldn't make the plays to win the game. It's not in their nature. It's being coached out of them.

When a single player is getting 100+ yards passing on his head every week, someone who can make a play or at least staunch the bleeding would be a very big move. What really turned around the 2019 season from being another meh 2nd-3rd place finish in the West to a team that could actually win the big games? Gaitor, Hecht, Rios out. Maston, Taylor, Mike Jones in. In September/October...Taylor started 4 regular season games, Maston 2, Mike Jones 1. But they dominated all 3 playoff games. We had a D that made plays at all 3 levels.

The Bombers decided to bring in the highest salaried import OL and IMO are built to roll with 4 import OL really. That is the plan. They have no Canadian depth. Eli can get them out of games, but any injury more than 1 week to a Canadian OL, they are ready to flip to 4 imports. What doesn't make sense at all is how we use Canadians on D but handicap the offense. We always have 3 Canadians on the field on D, and often have 4. But are locked in to 6 Canadians on O when we really only would need to "start" 5. We use all our DA's on D/special teams as well. Our O is handicapped significantly, particularly the receiving corps.

Moxey is playing field corner. If the guy in that spot is a net negative and it's not a spot you're trying to hide a Canadian (Matt Bucknor), that should be just about the easiest change to make on the entire roster. Moxey is a massive net negative towards winning. He hasn't made a single play this season other than a couple knockdowns late in games when we were already blown out. He's actively running away from making plays and bringing less than nothing. The effort level is embarrassing to watch as someone invested lifelong in this franchise. It's one thing to get beat, it's another to just visibly not give a damn or not want to compete. Hey there's a time when everyone is done. Get into coaching. We have 2 DB's on PR, 1 "LB." Make a move directly, Texada in at field corner for Moxey. Shift guys around. Put Nichols out there. He's clearly not up to moving/thinking fast enough anymore to playing boundary half, but I get he adds the vet presence, so stick him out at the field where he can isolate more on one guy and play downhill. Put Griffin at half, give more reps to Smith/Woodbey on D. Incorporate Vaval into some packages out there on D. We have a metric **** TON of players on D on this team. We have 24 guys dressed on the D side of the ledger for 12 on the field at a time. We need to play the guys who want to be out there, who will compete and execute.

More like letting Dillon Mitchell lead Highway Patrol on a chase and bringing in a 3rd Canadian.

Condell's words are revealing into his approach to playcalling. He's trying to put together drives philosophically (this drive we're going to run, this drive we're going to throw deep, this drive we're going to kill them with intermediate passes, this drive we're going to screen) rather than calling the best play to get the result down and distance on the next play against the opposing defence's tendencies. His philosophy would work a lot better if we locked in personnel groups on each drive and ran tempo. At the normal pace of the game it's useless.

Sorry an American who can only produce 700 yards a season if he plays 18 games in an era where everyone is passing 75-80% of the time is not a good player, not even an average one.

Made two great plays on their 2nd last drive. Too bad his receivers are taking penalties and quitting on plays. Two plays that would have got them into FG range from deep in their own end. It's crazy how many divas Hamilton has in that receiving core. The only one who can somewhat back it up with his career is Lawler.

Wheatfall is averaging 40 yards per game in his 3rd CFL season. He's not a good enough player to take an import spot in this league. See red, but letting him go wasn't a mistake. Lawler is doing basically nothing to help Ford out. 2nd last drive Hamilton had down 1, Ford put the ball out for Lawler on a scramble and Lawler casually jogged downfield, didn't catch up to it. Perfect chance for him to make a game winning play. I'm not one to praise Tre Ford for the sake of it but that was a great play by him. Lawler has his head up his ass.

Look at how aggressive both of these defenses are going after the ball....we've had like 5 plays this whole season where anyone even takes a swipe at a football when it's in someone's arms.
