  1. The thing that's promising this year is that we have a bunch of tickets in the top national starter lottery -- Westerman, Chung, Waggoner, Goossen, Bastien. If one or two of these guys develop into legit top talent we'll be in a way better spot. If three or four of them develop we will be set for awhile. I bet we'll see some serious bumps as everyone gets their legs under them but there's more promise here than there's been for awhile.
  2. Four "upsets": Redblacks 16 Als 13 Cats 29 Stamps 26 Argos 24 Eskies 23 Bombers 20 Riders 18 man it's weird picking scores now with these crazy new conversion rules.
  3. I don't know why the Eskies cut Goltz, that guy could run two-point convert plays all day for them.
  4. Tear up knee in preseason, get released. Does Anderson take anything away besides a wrecked knee? Any kind of injury compensation or extended insurance or what have you? That's super shitty if he doesn't.
  5. Those too-short passes on 2nd down are frustrating, but how do we know that it's the OC's fault and not the QB's? A lot of them I remember as checkdown plays to the safety valve receiver, who isn't going to have a ton of blocking help. They're not plays where the first read is the short pass. It's not like the OC has an Xbox controller wired to the QB's brain. The QB gets to make choices too.
  6. Three of the best current cfl quarterbacks hurt or seriously questionable and we haven't played a for-real down yet. This sucks.
  7. c'mon this one's easy -- it's Rory Kohlert.
  8. I think that Harris looks like a gamer and is going to be fine starting ... but will he be fine enough to overcome all the adversity of this last Argos Skydome season? Not an Argo fan, but have always been a Ray fan. It sucks to see one of the greats go down like this.
  9. Has Marve ever had the benefit of a competent OL in front of him? All the great Marve firedrills I remember came when his protection gave him less than a steamboat to work with. (I didn't watch the preseason game. stupid TSNGo)
  10. Not a huge wrestling fan but I do love this sequence right here from an old-time Portland amateur loop. It starts at about 9:40, can't get Youtube to both embed and jump to a specific time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91jONzX-BqQ#t=9m40s
  11. I remember Doug Berry had a great moment during a halftime interview once, the Bombers were losing and he was clearly in a pissy mood and wasn't willing to entertain whatever stupid question the reporter asked.
  12. C'mon, be real, championship games in the snow are awesome.
  13. This is great news.* If the Coyotes move, that's one less expansion team the NHL can sell and one less slice out of the talent pie. Put 'em in Quebec. I loved the QC / MTL rivalry in the old days, and Brandon is right: those old blue Nordiques unis are crazysexycool. * Except for Coyotes fans. Sorry you guys, I know it sucks to lose a team.
  14. For all his faults, he was better than just about every other quarterback we've rolled out since.Only recent Bomber QBs I'd take over Bishop would be first-half-of-2014 Drew Willy or the 2010 model of Buck Pierce, before he wrecked his elbow.
  15. I imagine that Reebok had the exact same conversation with the Als and the Bombers: "Let me get this straight: you normally wear blue, and white, and a THIRD color? What is this, arenaleague3? Let's get rid of that tacky colored trim and replace it with a subtly different blue! There! soothing!" I swear someone at Reebok had stock in an indigo factory. Though the lark wings were cool I guess.
  16. What happened with Chad Simpson in 2013? Didn't he walk out on the team? Whatever the reason, I'm glad he's not here. In all my ~30 years of watching the CFL, he's the most frustrating running back I can remember. He'd be heading upfield with a good head of steam, needing 2-3 more yards for a first down with one or two tacklers in front of him. And then, something would misfire in his brain and he'd decide to pivot and run east-west, or stop dead and juke -- try to finese the situation rather than attacking it. And then, without exception, the other team would rally to him and he'd get gang-tackled and then we'd punt. It happened every. single. fscking. game. If I were Tim Burke and I had to coach Chad Simpson, I'd look like a kicked dog too. Maybe Tim would've won a few more games if Mr. Mack had gotten him an RB who wasn't allergic to the first down stick. Now, if we could get the 2011 Chris Garrett back, that'd be sweet. Garrett is the best back the Bombers have dressed since Charles Roberts. Don't know if the 2011 Chris Garrett still exists, though.
  17. I suspect Yantz won't see the field. I think if he were going to be part of the QB conversation at all he'd have played tonight. Next week Willy is going to get half the game, that doesn't leave a lot of reps for the other four guys. I'm betting we see 1/2 Willy and 1/4 each for Brohm and Marve against Hamilton. Is it possible that Portis could be cut and Yantz kept on the PR? Or could the Bombers keep both of them on the PR/IR? I didn't see the game tonight (stupid TSNGo) so I don't know where Portis stands.
  18. From the article: "Impossible." I like that word. Hope the Argos and the TiCats don't change up their looks in 2016, I think they both look pretty classy right now.
  19. Bishop beat every team in the league in 2009 except for Saskatchewan and Calgary. (We beat Calgary that year, but it was a LeFors victory) And his win against Montreal was a beauty. Bomb after bomb after bomb. 411 yards on just 17 completions. And it wasn't a nothing game, that win kept us in playoff contention for another week. I often wonder what the history of the Bombers would have been if Kelly had won the Boat Bowl against the TiCats...
  20. Ottawa's gotta be reaching out to McCallum right now. (trivia learned while googling to see if this is actually happening:) It would be his second stint in Ottawa since he was actually a Rough Rider back in 1993. And he's the only player in CFL history to have played against all three Ottawa franchises.
  21. We gave up an opening-kickoff TD in 2010 too, but we destroyed the Ticats anyway. Buck Pierce played like Matt Dunigan. Philip Hunt was in Kevin Glenn's business all day. Terrence Edwards was unstoppable deep. Lapo and Mack looked like they were starting a new dynasty. Good times, briefly.
  22. Swaggerville now spread all across the East: Johnson in Ottawa, Hefney in Montreal, Suber in Toronto, and (somehow) Stewart is still a Ti-Cat.
