1. The primary function of any museum is to preserve heritage and educate the public. Expecting a high degree of economic impact through tourism, is a recent shift and actually a fairly new idea.
2. You pointed out government subsidy as if it were a negative. It's the norm for any museum - they all get subsidies. That's why I could rent two rooms at the MB. museum this past Friday, and also have my students complete a scavenger hunt of the galleries, all for $13 per student, plus 5 free chaperones. We were at the museum from 9:30 - 3:00; per hour, per student, that's ridiculously low, and I greatly appreciate it.

I read those too - you're referring to them without the proper context
1. All Canadian museums operate as non-profit organizations
2. Most Canadian museums are primarily funded by both governments and foundations

I've booked quite a few field trips groups at CMHR. They do have dates where they are fully booked.
As does the MB. Museum - I was there on Friday with 40 grade 11s - the place was busy.

In the years before Covid, there were several organizations that sponsored the attendance of schools at the Manitoba Museum. It was not free, the museum was still getting paid. This is a fact - I take my grade 11 group to the museum every year.
No, they don't. Achieving 94 000 paid attendance when you're target is 100 000, is actually pretty good.

Yes but - there were a number of teams doing a much better job than Winnipeg was.

I'd say that the Leos did well on that one.

The article you posted indicates that they achieved over 90% of their paid attendance target.

You would have to think students make up the majority of visitors to CMHR/Museum.

Taman was the most bush league GM in modern CFL history.
Not all his fault mind you as the club was broke, and being run by the inept BOD.
If not for Milt, I sincerely believe the team would have folded by 2005, and if not for Wade Miller would still be a bottom feeder now, if even in existence.
In retrospect it’s amazing they made it through.

Yeah they were running it on the cheap back then. The facility was super rough too.
I don’t think we retained a high-end FA for nearly a decade.
After 02 it was the big 4 (Milt/Blink/Brown/KJ or KG) with little to nothing else talent-wise.
When they hired Doug Berry, Taman was able to bring in a few good vets on the tail end (Simpson, Bolden, Armstrong, ect) to make a short run.
Point is, you’re right. There was never anything foundational for a sustained run on top before Wade took over.
