Most teams are in a similar situation at QB. Davis, Harris, Adams, Rourke - injuries to any of them could sink that team's season. And some them are known for getting hurt

Team looks much better on paper across the board from last year. I think there's a lot of roster nitpicking going on, which is completely fair, but preemptive. The sky is not falling.

If the Bombers could win ten games with Hogan at OC I am sure they will win more with Condell who actually seems to know what he is doing. The defence and special teams should be just as good this season as last year. Sure there are depth concerns but after cut down day when every team has 45 players they're all razor thin at at least one position group.

I wasn't going to mention that interview as Mark always makes fun of me for bringing it up lol...same goes with the Rod Black/Sam Giguere "relationship"....

I’d agree there. I’m not sure they would have got out of the WF without ZC. The TD drive in the first half from deep in their own end specifically. Getting out in front early ended up being the difference in that game.

Still early, no doubt. I read today that Demski was out and they moved Cobb to his spot and Corcoran took Cobb's spot. So it seems like they are pretty set on 3 Canadian WR, at the moment.
Couple that with the fact that they will want to pull out a Canadian WR at times to put on Daniels or MCI. So that's when Cobb etc would come out.
I still think the offensive line is the most likely position that an American could win a spot. Heard good things about Elsbury and we know Randolph and Vanterpoole can play.

They had lost 4 of 5 before the ZC trade. There was a game vs. Hamilton that was just an absolute mess.

1000%. That 2019 team was 11 - 7, had their up and downs and got their butts handed to them a few times. When they really put it all together, ZC was the QB. And no, he didn't just 'manage' every game.

I was under the impression the coaches want him to knock down passes and to contain rather then for him to go for the sack.
Also he played next to Jake Thomas who comically was knocked around on nearly every play.
From what I've watched Willie still can disrupt even at his older age.

Nichols helped bring us back to respectability and into contention.
Zach helped put us over the top in 2019.

He has a QBR in the 70s without Lapo and a QBR around 100 with Lapo. I'm no fan of Lapo, but I live in reality.
Lapo made the guy's career. He was a limited QB. When he was gunslinging he was almost 1:2 TD to turnover ratio with significant fumbling issues on top of INTs.
Having a QB who could threaten teams vertically gave us the win in 19 behind that, Harris and the D. We don't beat Calgary and Sask on the road without that.

Ricky Ray was on some very average teams, particularly in Edmonton, but he'd still put up the yardage
For his GC win in Toronto, the team around him wasn't all that good

It’s actually sad how you and Old Man Nickel are so butthurt by literally anything I post. It was a joke and off goes Al with his “OMG and he’s a mod” whining and off goes GCn with his “he thinks he’s smarter than everyone” proclamations. Do you notice how everyone else was able to either just laugh, shake their head or ignore it and move on? Instead of putting a whole bunch of implications that don’t exist into the words I wrote?
I don’t know if you two are just completely incapable of letting anything I post NOT get to you, but maybe you should try. Like I messaged Al earlier, I’m an “administrator” here because I helped (barely) Rich found this place however long ago we started it and if you were to ask any of the people (Rich, Joey, Mark, NOT me) who actually put in their time and effort keeping this site tidy, they’d probably tell you I don’t even know where the ModCP is to be able to do any moderator duties. Not once in ten plus years here have I ever leaned on anyone and tried to act like an authority, so I have no idea where his weird old ass gets that idea. And I guess I’ll just say this part out loud - I stopped being in tune with the goings on and day-to-day of this team a couple years ago, I don’t know sweet **** all about most things other than when I have a few spare minutes to read some articles so whatever “holier than thou” attitude you think I’m toting around … it ain’t there. I do see it from you with your constant arguing like you know everything about the whole Walters vs. O’Shea dilemma and I do think it’s funny that you are just about the only one here who doesn’t notice it, but hey … that’s not my business.
anyways. Curious to see who breaks camp tomorrow. Go Bombers. Grey Cup in 2026.

I think really 3 spots. Don't really want Vaval starting even if you are going to give him some D reps, and probably want a DI on offense (receiver) or DL. But I think this team is really built to start 4 American OL if the Canadians at receiver and RB are healthy.
Griffin can basically count as a DB too so that gives him a pretty big leg up. I think he's basically on the roster. Kind of fluid in terms of position. Wonder if they might use Allen more at boundary corner and Kramdi/Griffin at safety/SAM as a base.

To me he's just being a smartass... and yeah the point you make is there too it's not mean, it's just a humorous truth. Most people don't have the required background to properly judge what's happening at training camp.
That being said I appreciate every single one of the accounts from camp even if they're full of crap, and all those preseason heroes Mike threw into the post is a fun reminder of how us fans get at this time of the year.

Great QBs on great teams don't screw things up. They play like game managers, make great plays themselves at times but let the talent around them win games. BLM may not have been as great if he had played for the Lions instead of the Stamps. Or with us from 2013-16. We were a wasteland at qb back then as I recall. Look what Collaros did in Saskatchewan. Virtually nothing. Then he comes to Winnipeg after another useless stint in Toronto as a washed up pivot & set the CFL on fire as a Blue Bomber in 2019 & 21. How good would Ken Ploen have done had he signed with the Alouettes instead of the Bombers. All the pieces have to fit in place even with the great ones to win.
BTW, I think Matt Nichols doesn't get the credit he deserves. He came here for a bag of footballs as Ed Hervey felt he was washed up. Nichols turned the fortunes of the Bombers around. I'd like to see the Bombers recognize his contributions to making this organization a winner.

Strength of the team is a tough one. Did Flutie ever start on a bad or average team? Do we downgrade Zach's renaissance because he was on a generational team? Does that, by extension, nearly wipe out Kharis' career? What about AC's loyalty to the Als or his willingness to remake himself late in his career?
Something similar can be said of all the top QBs. Some of those factors are bigger than others. Imo, the big ones are Danny Mac just slinging it on so many bad or mediocre teams (while piling up the picks), Allen padding numbers like emmit smith while only having a small number of good passing years, Harris/KG padding on good teams and not elevating teams, and just the vastly different era for guys before Brock/Moon/Clements. Even that era, up through Khari to the modern era, is a massive change.
Nothing is gained by reducing the greatness of any of those guys, though.
