I'm giving Rose the benefit of the doubt. Our secondary was a bit of a revolving door last season and he may have been trying to do too much. You factor in that he was hurt and never quite himself .. it's no wonder his play fell off. Late in the year you started to see him round into form. By that point, the backfield had settled down and he was likely healthier than he'd been at any point prior - again, just giving him the benefit of the doubt based on his previous level of play and how he flashed at times last season. That said, I expect competition and expect he'll be pushed to prove he's our solution our there.

Measurables. You can't coach 6'5 with decent quickness (he's not a fast receiver by any stretch but in football "quick" and "fast" are two different things). I can see why NFL teams, who tend to get captivated by guys who fit a mold, would take a flier on a guy like Lenius.

The most likely scenario for Rourke will be one of two things: He earns himself an NFL contract and the Lions release him to pursue that opportunity. He then becomes a free agent in the CFL if / when his time in the NFL is through. He goes to the highest bidder (ie. most money with an organization that’s winning). Through his workouts, he fails to earn an NFL contract and the Lions exercise his 3rd year option. The Lions do this because from a cap management perspective it makes sense but Rourke likely won’t play on that 80K (he’d be stupid to risk his health and future on the rookie pay scale) so the Lions will work out an extension with some of that money being guaranteed / converted to a signing bonus. In either case, his cap hit for 2023 will not be 80K. This whole idea that Rourke will be locked into the rookie pay scale for a 3rd year option without any sort of renegotiation, holdout or risk to be lost in free agency (if released from his contract) is absolutely absurd.

I simply hope that our secondary puts the fear of God into the "league's best receiving core". Genuinely hope someone lays the wood early and sends a message.

Stats don't really tell a tale on their own now do they ... Rourke looked rather pedestrian all night and, if I'm honest, this game never felt like it was in doubt. Can rack up all the yardage in the world but the only number that matters is the record. We were 1-0 after the game was played. I know he's still working his way back into the lineup but he really hasn't looked like himself when he's on the field .. that, and other guys have stepped up in his place.

His receivers left a lot of plays on the field as well. Some of that is on Rourke, some of that is on the conditions .. hell .. some of it is just seeing our guys coming downhill at them.

We've made Rourke look very average in each of the three games we've faced him this year. He's a talented kid with a great future ahead of him but he's got some growing to do. Kind of overshadowed the celebration moment at the end of the game .. seeing one of our guys laid out on the field after that dirty SOBs cheap shot.

The level of butt-hurt in some of those comments is really funny. Was starting to ask myself "Is this for real or are they trolling the OP?" Loved the wave off and if *anyone* should be helping up Rourke it was the turnstile that allowed Thomas to drop their QB.

My thoughts on this game .. it's completely meaningless, a tune-up game before heading into the playoffs. My feelings on this game .. I hope we **** them up royally and show BC they have no business hanging with the B2B champs. Do not go into the post-season giving *anyone* confidence.

I’ll say this now .. backups or not I ******* hate giving a team confidence going into the post season. And our run defence is still a total **** show.

Not saying he’s a stud or any sort of saviour simply that he hasn’t been the worst guy we’ve trotted out there .. first game, limited practice reps, he faired better than some of the players we put on the field. I’ve been saying for weeks on end that that side of the defence is a disaster. Gauthier has no business being an every down player and it seems we’re just plugging in warm bodies at this point.

Holm didn’t look out of place last game in the sense that he didn’t stand out in a negative way and the one play he did give up, he was right there in coverage - it was simply a great play by the offence. Parker on the other hand has been a liability since he stepped on the field.

I'm not even thinking of this year but also going forward .. no guarantee Jeffcoat comes back for another season after this and we have to start planning for the gradual turnover of our core players. Bring people in. Immerse them in the team culture while we have those leaders here.

That's a little disappointing.
