A couple of thoughts heading into the game tonight: People may want to say "Saskatchewan isn't as good as their record .. " That's bullshit in my mind. You are what your record says you are. Good teams go out and perform regardless of circumstance, don't play down to opponents and win the games they should win. This will not be an easy contest by any stretch of the imagination. This will be the strongest defensive line we've put out all season. That, coupled with the injuries Saskatchewan is facing, should hopefully mean we are making Patterson very uncomfortable and forcing him into bad decisions. Capitalizing on those bad decisions will be key. When we have an opponent on the mat, we need to keep them there. Can our offensive line give Zach a chance in back to back weeks? It's no coincidence that Collaros had his best game of the season last week as he enjoyed a pretty clean pocket (for the most part). That said, I don't have a lot of faith that that group, as a whole, that it's turned the corner. Am I the only one who hates seeing Zach lock onto one receiver for the course of a game? I know that his reads make this a bit of a moot point but last week felt pretty emblematic of Collaros's play over the last year and a bit - locking on to a single receiver and forcing it. Kind of an opposing thought to the one above. I don't expect a monster game from Brady tonight so Zach has to be efficient with the ball in his hands. Make your read, get the ball out quickly and take what's there. I said a couple weeks ago our offense looks so much better when we go tempo - I want to see more of it. Smith has been steady but unspectacular since coming onto the roster (was a tremendous upgrade over Mitchell though). Will see if Case has that little something "extra" the return team needs. Sheahan ..... why? Week after week after week I continue to ask myself "Why is he here?" I just don't get it.

There are a number of guys on the roster who are guilty of missed tackles: Biggie .. Alexander .. Thomas .. Kramdi .. (see the theme here). Any one of them *should* come off the roster if that's a concern for O'Shea. Wilson was easily the best of our LB last game and so many were writing him off earlier in the season but an injury like he had takes time to come back from (I've been there) so I'm optimistic he's turned a corner and he's back to being the vastly underrated player we've come to love. Lucky lasted all of part of one game. -

He’s a great DC (I’ll give him that) but a terrible head coach, GMand a generally shitty person. -

A few random thoughts on Grant: He's a game changer and was a catalyst on special teams that, when the offense wasn't clicking and the D was holding down the fort, that changed the dynamic of games. He could (can) score. We won games because of him. I think it was foolish to let him walk. Maybe he wanted more of a role on offense and that was something we weren't willing (or able) to provide him. I view him in the same vein as Jeffcoat .. when he's on the field he's an absolute beast, a difference maker, a guy who can flip the script and make others better (the special teams unit) .. but you couldn't count on him for a season and those stretches where he was at 100% were getting smaller and smaller. -
You'd think so but all we have to do is look at Saskatchewan the last several years to see that character and selflessness aren't exactly integral traits for everyone.
-
And this has largely been the problem with our defence so far this season .. very few plays are being made .. there isn't someone back there who *is* a difference maker. That said, it was nice to see us force the issue Friday night .. even if we gave up 460 yards of offense.

Imagine that .. Rhymes not making plays when he’s not pushing off every DB he’s up against.

GDT - Calgary Stampeders vs. Winnipeg Blue Bombers

With the heat today, if the offense can't get on track early the defense (especially the line) is going to be in TOUGH. I also kind of view this as a bit of gut-check game for both Zach and Buck .. collectively our offense has been abysmal but the game plan runs through the quarterback and neither our OC nor our QB have been particularly effective so far this year. -

It was the Coatney spear that knocked Zach out of the first game against Calgary so I hope the boys remember that and bring a bit of nasty to their play. -

You don't know there's tension, that's your assumption. We do know that he's being awarded the lion's share of snaps. Is it holding anyone on the roster back? I don't know. I do know that there aren't many guys behind him that are healthy right now and JT is doing everything that's been asked of him and more. A defensive tackle leading the team in pressures is definitely stepping up and doing his part. My issue with Thomas is that he's not stout enough inside to hold up against the run. We've been fortunate that nobody has taken advantage of that but this is the CFL and, for the most part, running the ball is secondary. As I said, ideally he'd be a rotational piece and without the injury to Lawson, he'd be exactly that. -

I'll be one of the first people to say we should be looking to move on from Thomas but he hasn't been as bad as some people are making him out to be. He's never been an "engine guy" and that's only more apparent as he's aged and ideally, he'd be more of a rotation piece taking limited snaps but the dude isn't playing terrible ball right now
