Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
ShyGuy replied to Atomic's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
There is lots of weird math that is going on The league is suggesting that the presence of the goal posts along the goal line is somehow surpressing scoring, but teams are 221/360 for red zone opportunities (61.4%) this year. I can't find the NFL as a league average, but in 2024 that rate would put the CFL at number 10, behind the Panthers at 62% and above the Packers at 59%... and none of those teams have to deal with goal posts. -
So fun Collaros stat Bombers have had 6 home games. Collaros has missed 2 (Suspension Week 2 vs BC, Injured Week 9 vs Toronto), been knocked out of 2 (Week 7 vs Calgary, Week 14 vs the Riders) and started and finished the game twice (Week 4 vs Edmonton, Week 11 vs Ottawa). Based on this, I expect Collaros to play this game, get injured again vs Saskatchewan, and then miss the Season Finale vs Montreal.

The league estimates that the changes will result in 60 more touchdowns a year. I would like to see their math on that. -

Think of all the extra revenue you can generate from players by fining them for drinking beer or eating nachos from tables in the Bet365 Field Level Lounge during a TD Celebration -

Why does everyone think the NFL wants the CFL to be a development League? They have one, it's call the NCAA. The players moving into the NFL from there are getting paid more there than they would here. It's not worth it to the NFL to have a league where a half dozen players per year MIGHT finally take the leap and become servicable in the NFL -

Moving the goal posts is annoying because the Field goal return was one of the more exciting plays Might have been gimmicky, but you are capturing 10 yards on each side by move the end zone in 5 and eliminating the 55 yard line, make those 10 yards the field goal return zone, only inbounds during a field goal -

It's going to be something dumb like... end zones reduced to 15 yards, uprights moved to back of the end zone and no rouges on balls that go out of the end of the end zone. 15 yard end zones still keeps them unique. Uprights at the back of the end zone means teams that were kicking from 45 yards have to make it to the 30. No rouges out the back of the end zone gets rid of the weird bitching about missing field goals for the win. End zones 140 yards apart might make it easier logistically for shared stadiums with Soccer or to attract sideshow NFL games for... whatever reason. -
From last year past week 11 QB A: 190/262 2392 Yards, 13/6 TDs/INTs QB B: 177/260, 2318 Yards, 13/7 TDs/INTs One of those is Collaros. One of those is the QB who won the all-star nod in the West (Harris). Yeah Collaros was buoyed by a great game against the Elks... but he also had an outrageous game against the Riders in the West Final as well. He had a horrendous start to the year, and then finished pretty strong IMO. The problem is the Bombers have a MOP calibre player in Oliveira, but get away from him and let Zach gunsling it. If we were to play a bit more conservative I think the Bombers would be more successful (when he is playing which has been an issue this year)

His takeaway if they probably dropped Streveler 5 too many times

https://www.cfl.ca/2025/09/17/most-outstanding-canadian-watch-who-are-the-top-contenders/ Demski at number 2 but can't believe Oliveira isn't on the list. Reigning MOP (should be back to back if we are being honest), and despite missing almost 3 entire games is 3rd in the league in Yards from Scrimmage, and the pace he is on will likely take the lead in the next couple games... even accounting for the game where he played only 1 drive he is pretty much on a 2K yards from scrimmage pace. -

I'd be worried if you get rid of Walters and not O'Shea, the only people who would be interested in the GM position would mean that O'Shea should be the defacto GM (if he doesn't get named that anyways). It seems like a lot of times, a GM gets brought in and he will want to do his hiring, and if you don't also get a new Coach you end up with a weird lame-duck period waiting for the incumbent coach to get fired and replaced. -

[citation needed] We are talking about an Athletic Therapist... not an orthopedic surgeon or anything too right? His job is to do non-invasive tests and then refer him to specialists. It's not going to be malpractice if he goes 'his knee is ******' and the specialist agrees, and the team allows him to trot himself out there in a huge ass knee brace to approximate the support a functioning ACL would give him. It might rise to the level of malpractice he is failed to (or incorrectly gave) give the Lachman test, and then sent him back out there with a couple strips of KT Tape or something... but obviously there was a plan, go on the 6 game, attempt to rehab, go out there in a brace and give it your best shot. Some choice quotes about this https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/2025/09/05/schoens-2025-campaign-ends https://www.sportsnet.ca/cfl/article/blue-bombers-wr-dalton-schoen-out-for-season-with-torn-acl/ But I think this argument is starting to miss the forest for the trees... what is absolutely fact is that going into a crucial home-and-home series against your biggest rival, immediately after a game where your backup QB (who also was less than 1 year removed from ACL surgery) had to take significant snaps at receiver, they decided the best thing for the WR corps was trotting out someone they KNEW only had one good knee... it was mostly just dumb luck that he made it all the way to the end of the game or else we would have been seeing more of Streveler WR4 again. https://www.bluebombers.com/alain-couture/ It would be funny if a team had a page for their Head Athletic Therapist and didn't goose him up a bit "Hey this is our Athletic Therapist. He's pretty mid, but he tries his best and we love him anyways" -

My dude, you are the only one who is going against what is being reported. Let's see your evidence that it was partially torn. We have one tweet from Tait saying it was torn. We have a sound bite from O'Shea saying yeah he tore it in Calgary. Not one time has the word 'partial' been uttered in the media in regards to Schoen. It follows that we should probably trust the team when they say it was ... torn -
3 turds pls ch The strevolution will not be televised

I don't know what people are hoping for with Streveler. He's been here pretty much 4 complete seasons, he's had 8 career games with more TDs than interceptions, 1 career game over 300 (304!) yards passing, 7-9 as a starter. The only QBS this year with a worse efficiency than him that have taken any significant snaps are Morgan, Masoli, Walker and Shiltz. If you want him here as that QB Sneak guy... sure I guess but that seems expensive and tbh Wilson seemed stronger in that role last year... but he absolutely should not be the guy you have out there throwing passes. I can't think of any one who has had the start he has had to his career and then put it together, past 31, post ACL Surgery. -
Riders really laid an egg at home. Yeah the Riders were on back up corners but the Als were starting 2025 MBT... coming into the game 1/20 on passes deeper than 20 yards. I just breezed through the highlights and he must have hit on a half dozen of those tonight

There's dooming and being realistic. No team in the East looks like world beaters right now, but coming off back-to-back losses and starting your back-up QB... who in their last start threw 3 interceptions and had to have the D/ST provide 3 TDs to sneak out a win at home... doesn't install a ton of confidence to be fair -

oops this is my bad. By this I meant, he was on the roster last year and is still there this year... i think he took a hair cut this year too Last year was Lawler - 280K Schoen - 230K Demski - 225K Wilson, Wolitarksi, Clercius, Wheatfall... all probably making close to min This year it started out as Demski - 225K Schoen - 170K Mitchell - 150K Sterns, Case, Cocoran, Clercius, Wheatfall... all those guys probably right around the minimum. Not sure how Wilson is slotting in here, maybe he is taking p some of that 180K that Lawler and Schoen combined vacated last year There is a source though... it's Ed Tait. He said it was torn, not partially torn. Do you not think that that is an important designation to make? Generally with football you hear 'partially torn ACL' and it is QBs or Linemen... not a WR who has to run up and down the field making constant changes of directions and speed. -

I don't think the Bombers were hoping to replace Lawler with TWO receivers. Schoen was already on the books, hope he is 2022 Schoen and that replaces Kenny (whoops) Sign Mitchell, hope he gives you 2023 Schoen like production (whoops) Sign a position of need... Needed to replace Bighill so come on down Jonathon Jones (whoops) Mitchell and Jones salary slips nicely into the hole created by Lawler's departure... But neither of them could crack the roster for... Reasons -

For sure, there are a million and 1 things that we aren't exactly privy to that can affect a player game to game. Collaros being injured in 111, and Lawler being almost last man standing in 110... and then obviously his first year was 107 so can't put too much into it. He had a fantastic game in the West Finals last year... but Collaros looked vintage there as well... so much symbiosis between WR and QB. 2023 he had similar numbers to Grey Cup 110, 2021 he had similar numbers, same in 2019 but he had a TD there. Obviously having a player like Lawler on the team would be a huge plus but cost and usage definitely a factor. He had 4 seasons here and he was at least inconsistent in his availability. You can see where the thought process would go with a high priced receiver... can't keep on the AR all year and an offense that is in clear decline... It looks worse because he is balling out this year but he is leading the league depth yards targeted and the Bombers are living right around 10 yards past the line of scrimmage... is that because they don't have someone like Kenny or is that because the Bombers are rostering QBs that can't push the ball down field? Probably a bit of both. Maybe as a fan I give the team a bit more rope than they deserve... Lots of people like to clamor for Dru Brown... did the front office completely bungle that or in the 3 years he was here did they decide that he would be unable to stay on the field with the way he plays... Would the last 2 years be any better with Brown as the QB with his inability to stay on the field? CFL definitely isn't as transparent as a lot of other leagues and we are left to fill in the gaps... part of the fun I suppose -

Grey Cup 107 3/52 Grey Cup 108 3/41 Grey Cup 110 3/77 Grey Cup 111 2/27 Not exactly game breaking numbers. The whole thesis of your argument is it must have been a partial tear or else it would border on negligence to trot him out there... so why wouldn't the team's #1 media hype man specifically call it out that it was a partial tear and everyone agreed he could try to play through it and unforunately he ended up fully tearing it... but the reporting was essentially he tore it in Calgary and after a stint on the 6 game IR they tried to give it a go but he couldn't play through it so they are shutting him down -

Walters and Kenny seems like the Hervey and Eugene situation only Walters remembered not to say the quiet part out loud. Of all the questionable roster decisions and signings (and not signings) Walters has made, I'm not sure not signing a 31 year old WR who hadn't played more than 2/3rds of a season the previous 3 seasons to $300K/yr would crack the top 5 -

What a weird **** measuring contest this is turning out to be. I'm not sure where 'Partially torn' is coming from, From Ed Tait's reporting No mention of partial tear in Calgary. No mention of completing the tear in Saskatchewan. -
I didn't notice that Reavis was fined already this season for a high hit on Rourke. So probably the case that this is almost entirely a repeat offender thing no?
