3 turds plus cranky honker don’t say roster management edition
ShyGuy replied to wbbfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Bombers have their kids combine on Monday. Maybe they can find some bodies for the d line meat grinder there. They would come cheap tol -
This is how the Kenny Lawler discourse feels like sometimes
-
Wolitarsky still hasn't played a game yet this season after missing 8 last year. I'm not sure how well Zach going '**** it, Kenny down there somewhere' would work out when he is one of the worst at passes 20+ yards deep the last 2 seasons.

https://www.cfl.ca/2025/07/18/greene-picks-it-in-the-end-zone-and-shuts-the-door/ I dunno looking at the replay as Streveler flicks the pass at him he pretty much steps moving, goes down to a knee to make sure he is still in the end zone and watches the ball move towards him. If Streveler was set and could get some zip onto it, or if the Stamps were running the same coverage the Bombers were when Rhymes scored his TD... but the Bombers had 4 receivers on that side of the field, it looks like they ran a lineman down to the goal line, Demski was sat down just on the other side of the goal line, and it looks like they were trying to clear out the top with Sterns... Clercius ran an out above 5 yards deep before creeping back... I think you have to expect that there will be a defender lurking somewhere around that point. If he takes 1 or 2 steps towards the ball instead of stopping, either he catches it and the Bombers try to push it forward, or Greene runs through him and there is maybe a call.

That pick in the 3rd was the turning point for sure. Whole team just delated like a sad balloon after that. Streveler needs to know not to make that pass, you are 1st and 7 and Brady was feasting, get rid of it or push yourself forward to make it 2nd and 5 or whatever... But I don't know what Clercius was doing there, he just sat down at the front of the end zone by the pylon hoping the ball makes it to him... Streveler scrambling and is about to throw off balance, go get the damn ball even if you catch it at the 1 or 2 and hope you can make a play, instead Greene jumps right in front of him and it ends up being curtains.

Looking at the stats, Collaros is throwing it a bit deeper per attempt (9.4 depth yards vs 8.5 depth yards) but Streveler was way more successful on passes 20+ deep at a similar pace... against BC he was 4/5 whereas in Collaros' 3 games he has been 5/16 and has 2 picks. Kind of points to the fact that Collaros really doesn't have much going on those deep passes... the only QBs worse than Collaros percentage wise are Masoli (known to be cooked) and Shiltz and Crum... anyone clamoring for the good old days the actual started closest to Collaros is Brown at 37.5% (6/17)... there must be something in the water in Ottawa because all those QBs are terrible deep. Oh and I guess MBT is 0-9(!!!!!)

Maybe the plan was to hope that Wilson doesn't catch on with the Jets and falls off quick... but that doesn't seem like a great plan

The calculus for sure isn't Schoen vs Lawler it is Schoen plus whatever they could do with the $120K difference vs Lawler. The big question mark was if Schoen could stay healthy and if they could effectively use that $120K somewhere... and it looks like no on both accounts.
-
Are we not counting Lawler after his stint in Edmonton?
-
Who is hoping anything? Do you think BC who can't seem to beat anyone other than the Elks is in a better position than the Bombers? Would you take the Riders aging roster, riddled with injuries led by an aging QB who can't push the ball down the field over the Bombers aging roster, with an sub-optimal active roster led by an aging QB who can't seem to push the ball down the field? Would you take Elks roster who spent like drunken sailors on defense only to end up with objectively the worst defense in the league and are trying to shoehorn Tre Ford into a franchise QB role while giving him no reasonable help on offense? NGL Stamps looking pretty good rn though.

If anything these guys SHOULD BE bitching more... if JimBob on the other development team gets preferential treatment from my manager maybe I don't get an extra 1% bonus or raise next year, or maybe I have to change jobs and continue my FORTY YEAR career somewhere else so be it. If Dillon Mitchell can't get onto the active roster because MOS wants to parade a bunch of non-import non-participant receivers to play 4 snaps on special teams, he might be out of the game entirely as soon as next year.
-
To be fair, Calgary and Edmonton were the two teams that seemed to be most active / had the least losses over the offseason. It has worked out very well for the Stamps... for the Elks not so much. The Lions are sitting at .500... but they beat the floundering Elks twice and snuck past an injured Als team for their other win. The Riders took a fairly aged team with an otherworldly TO Ratio and ran it back and are in a similar situation to the start as last year, but honestly it seems they have more cracks. The Bombers started 0-4 last year and are 3-1 this year.

Blue Bombers - 2025 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DMIp-5gPr1C/?igsh=eWMweHU0b3k0Y3Bw Mitchell has been too busy at his day job to be promoted to the active roster. -
He approaches the game "the right way"tm

The policies the league has for this are pretty easy to find and make the protocols explicitly clear. If AQHI+ as deemed by Environment Canada (you can actually see these values in pretty much all stadiums via the Purple Air map) is 8 or above, players aren't allowed on the field. The policies also state that there will attempt to make things work for up to 3 hours (I think they let it go to 4 in this case). Regina was also under a special air quality warning at the time. Should the league have been more proactive in maybe rescheduling based on the forecast? Maybe, but they were hoping that winds would come and mitigate the issue. Should they have left everyone sit in the stands without much updates within the stadium? Probably not, but in an open air stadium what else can you really do. Everyone has their own risk profile and were expecting to be there for at least 3 hours anyways. And it is indeed a safety issue for the players more-so than the fans in the stands... it is an order of magnitude more dangerous doing wind sprints up and down the field in that kind of conditions than it is hanging out in the stands. The problem is with something like lightning, you know there is some timing involved and you can actually see it. Of course there are people that are going to dip as soon as the delay happens, and then you make the decision as time goes on as you see more or less lightning. With the smoke its just kind of... there and you can almost get acclimated to it but as soon as you hit fresh air its clear what was going on, but you have morons on Facebook and X going "hurr-durr back in my day I'd run marathons sucking back a pack of darts players these days are babies."
-
It was a non-rouge touchback that went out the back of the endzone, it would be the same as if Calgary had fumbled through the end zone. If it was Calgary ball where would you expect them to scrimmage from?!?
-
Vintage Trevor Harris Performance. A million yards passing. 80% completion percentage. 10 points for the offense
-
Might be early Saturday Morning football by the time this one kicks off
-
I figured it was the 'injury prone' designation we put on Janarion Grant that made it so we didn't resign him... which was entirely Buck Pierces fault because you could, you know, not run your 170 lbs soaking wet All-CFL returner up the middle for 2 yards and just have him return kicks like a normal coach.
-
The defense isn't going to have to do much in the second half if they give up 22 points in the first half and the offense can't move the ball. The PxP has Vernon Adams completing 4 short passes / 5 in the second half, but when you are up by 20 why would you push the defense. Point differential is unlikely to come into effect, keep everything nice and easy... Big Play VA is notorious for working both ways. This is why you can't stat sheet watch.... Bombers put up 400 yards of net offense, but that was mostly empty calories where they couldn't finish drives or were playing against a soft Calgary defense that was rushing 3 and was keeping everything ahead of them... 55 pass attempts for only 316 yards is nuts. They only gave up 300 yards of net offense... but the Stamps had a 20 point lead starting at the halfway point of the 2nd quarter and they adjusted their offense accordingly.
-
This is a slippery slope. Stamps attempted 18 passes all game. They got up big and then played not to lose. The way the DLine was getting dog walked and the DBs were getting outworked by the receivers in the first half, had the offense had the juice to turn it into a shootout Adams likely would have ended up with 400 yards.
-
Pretty sure Lawler is making $100k more than Schoen this year
-
With Mitchell stuck on the 1 Game IR behind Sterns I wonder if the Elks get desperate at some point and try to get him back as someone with some more familiarity with Ford.
-
Football as a whole because there is pretty much 12 players on each team doing their own thing for 7 seconds at a time, and at any point any of those 24 can be doing something infraction worthy because almost everyone one is doing something that contributes to one thing specifically makes it really tedious to replay and challenge things... in that it is pretty unique compared to something like Hockey or even Soccer which has a similar amount of players on the field. Football kind of makes it harder on itself because I don't think any one can tell you everything that can go into making a completed catch sometimes... it feels like the meme for a balk sometimes. You have to make a football move... it can't touch the ground, unless you have control of it I guess? You have to survive contact with the ground... most of the time. I think that Refs are acting to the best of their abilities in the best interest of the game. If there is something that can be seen at full speed on a camera angle, for sure overturn it. When you start zooming in, and slowing down and dissecting frames like it is the Zapruder film is where things start to fall apart for me.

This is pretty much Riderfans during any Bomber game
