I predicted a mid May scenario for beginning to normalize.  At times that seemed crazy.  But there is a lot of talk of “August” for sports and I think mid May as a beginning to loosen period gives you a clear glide path towards July/August

I would be surprised if things loosened by mid May, I think there are too many idiots running around thinking this is a conspiracy or what not. Case in point, my cousins from Saskatchewan...

Well here is my question... if the government is going to pay for a student to be hired, what's to stop a company such as mine from firing me and hiring a student to do the job?

Also what not many jobs are hiring regardless. It’s puts younger people at risks since they have to go to work, assuming they can’t work from home,  most applications are already closed, and leaves the mature student (over 30) out to dry.  I really don’t understand this move

I doubt the people working on the implementation are dropping due to the virus.  And most of what Ive heard about the ease of applying has been positive.  Its not the execution so much as the Prime Minister saying one thing and reality being another.  Also, as I said, we specifically asked our MP who was very specific in his response that CERB was for anyone negatively impacted and if you had reduced income but still had some income, it was for you.  Imagine his surprise when it wasnt.

Couple more examples.  My sister is 20, just got her own apt last year.  Working full time at a juice place.  The business has obviously been hit with reduced revenue so they are giving everyone 1-2 shifts per week.  By doing that, she doesnt qualify for CERB but still cant pay her rent.

A friend is a gig worker, free lance writer.  He actually suffered when a couple of outstanding invoices have gone unpaid because the people who hired him were hit by this, so he's fine with that.  What can he do.  He actually does qualify for CERB right now, but he has some usual work that is coming up.  You're not supposed to decline work but if he doesnt, he might take a gig for, say $300 and then not qualify anymore.

One thing, this shows the importance of having some savings.  But we know that anyway.  Most people cant.  This is an extenuating situation.

There is also thousands of graduated high school students and university students without work who do not qualify for this CERB

I felt like Scheer ended up just repeating soundbites during the election and was nominated based on the fact that he was a harmless Harper with dimples.  It was mostly the abortion non-committal answers that were actually answers...

As for privatized health care?  I feel like its been pretty open that Cons want a more privatized health care system - watching Italy (public) and Spain (hybrid) and US (private) will soon tell us how this all works compared to Canada...

So wasn’t that from 2003/4 when he first spoke out on it? I also believe he did speak out and said he has no plans to change the law regarding it. As for the trump talking points, was there anything sheer said specifically about trump you disagree or is that more of a broad paintbrush you put on all conservatives?

I think Scheer was a fake smiling Harper puppet and the Conservative Party are corporate sellout losers who would have relied on a privatized health care solution too long...

Case in point - Horgan was on top of covid far before Doug Ford made a move.

Hmm interesting, can I ask why you believe this?

Scheer would have been paralyzed.  No doubt - we'd be hearing platitudes and talking points and kissing ass to Trump

Would love to hear more about your opinion on this. Would you mind explaining more?

They've stolen 25% of my life savings overnight and they won't stop until they've got it all, I'm sure. We better get used to it, this has worked so well it will be repeated over and over again.

If you have had something stolen, you should report it to the RCMP

Alberta has more than it's fair share of arrogant, redneck ******* cowboys. Maybe that factors into it a little bit. If you truly want to know what people think of Alberta, and I don't for a second think Albertans care about what the rest of the country thinks, look outside the province.

To be fair, that statement could be said about every province

So am I reading this right, the co-called universal benefit is only going to be for people who made ZERO dollars?  Thats not what it was sold as.  JT the savior of all Canadians did not pitch it that way.  I hope Im wrong.

And all those Americans complaining that their stimulus cheque was smaller than Canada's can rest easy now knowing at least they all qualify for it.

Zero money as in you have been laid off or zero money as in you can’t find a job? Or would both apply

    Wow, so defensive.

I read what you wrote. You're taking some weird offense to something I've written. You need to chill out.

Yes I am. When someone calls me a “wanna be” or acts condescending  and say I’m “not quite there” I do get a bit defensive and not afraid to admit it.

  11. 13 minutes ago, JCon said:

Not sure you need to "stick up for" being an undergrad Asper student. You be there "graduated" at some point, I'm sure.

Well I have a few questions, how do you know I’m a undergrad and not graduated? What’s wrong with me sticking up for being at asper? Sounds more like you have a problem with asper and the people who study there, which is fine. We can discuss that if you want.  And being a graduate is not my “there”
also I hope you read what I edited into my first reply to you. I was actually trying to clarify what I meant.

  12. 8 minutes ago, JCon said:

Ouch. Sorry, it offended you. Just pointing that you're not quite there.

Not at all but will stick up for what I do. But what is this “there” that I’m not quite at yet?
ps. Read the edited part on my last post.

We are already experiencing a recession.

You speak like a recent or wanna be Asper grad.

I am! Thanks for noticing! You sound a little condescending with the “wanna be”

sorry maybe I should’ve Clarified, meant as how long a recession will be after this all clears up, or how big it will once this whole thing clears up

The key is that a lot of the bailout has to be to workers keeping them able to pay their bills. Which is why I love that the government is going to help cover wages and pay for things like EI. You want a strong economy the way to get it is a robust middle class with lots of spending power. Economic strength isn't a top down thing, it's bottom up. When the lowest class and the middle class can spend you will see a strong economy.

That is 100% true. But the small, medium, and large businesses/corporation have to be there. Without one there, there won’t be there other. It’s crucial govt funding is allocated correctly.

Only if businesses big & small can bounce back.  The Recession in the late 70's to early 80's lasted a long time as well. Changes happened after the 2008 recession as well.  We just don't know as we've never experienced anything like this before.

This is why large and small business bailouts is not the work of the devil as what some people want to put it.  If a recession does happen, which could or could not happen, we can only speculate since no one can see the future, large business will be an essential part in getting the economy back in order.
