  1. The Ambrosie CFL 2.0 is going to get him fired, I believe. Sooner rather than later.
  2. Like Alex Singleton. As Canadian as any Californian out there. His Mom is Canadian so he got a free pass
  3. Sadly, this is the new reality all across the country. Less players mean that eventually there will be less Canadians to play in the CFL. As far as being a parent worried about concussions I had 2 kids that are now adults that played & I'd let them do it all over again.
  4. Well, I think Ken was an athletic qb as this OT run to win the 1961 Grey Cup will attest. As physically gifted as any qb of his day. Faked the 2 Ti Cat defenders out of their shorts & grasping at air. He ran a Split T offense with the Bombers which meant 3 running backs & 2 TE's with just a flanker & a split end to throw to. It was a run first offense. Ploen was never allowed to really show off his accuracy & arm strength under Bud Grant's offensive system. . .
  5. Bastaja & Black for me. I don't think that civic volunteering or having 2 sons who played in the NHL should be part of picking one player over another. Players should be judged only by their accomplishments on the field to keep it a level playing field I'm not criticizing you TB4 as you're free to use whatever criteria you like. Just my opinion.
  6. Do you think Alex Singleton was any more Canadian than Adam Bighill? His mother is Canadian so for roster purposes but Singleton never played a single down of football in Canada as a player prior to signing with the Stamps. He's as American as they come yet there he was he is Canadian taking a potential spot froma Canadian. So, in reality due to a deliberate loophole in the rules, the Stamps were actually playing with 6 Canadian starters not 7. Singleton was born & raised in California. I think that is a farce.
  7. I would argue on most teams the bottom 18 Americans are replaced every year anyway through trades, cuts & free agency.
  8. There will be blowback from these comments. Better put on your helmet.
  9. I thought he was an all star at least once. He was a solid player. You don't play 7 seasons with one team if you aren't good. But others were all stars so they deserve to be there instead.
  10. Two bookends....
  11. Too late now but I forgot about Chuck Liebrock.
  12. Do you really believe it's just Calgary? I highly doubt that. Kids aren't playing all across the country. The news media has brought this to the forefront with their stories of former players who are having issues as they age or committed a crime or have ALS, Dementia or Alzheimers. When former Ottawa Rough Riders defensive back Rod Woodward defrauded investors of millions of dollars, prior head injuries & concussions from football were blamed for his bad behaviour. There was nothing medical or scientific to back up that claim yet there it was in his story. Concussions caused Woodward to become a crook. Boom. bang. There ya go. Yet, do we see the same number or kind of stories in hockey? Nope. I'll say it's because there are billions of dollars being spent by Rogers & other media outlets on the game. as well as advertisers. Meanwhile, the CFL is small potatoes & an easier target than the NHL. Rogers, Bell Media & the NHL don't want stories about head injuries in hockey as its bad for business.
  13. Well, start telling parents you know to put their kids into football so the numbers can go back up...
  14. I'm thinking GeeBrr meant starting negotiations in January instead of March. That both sides knew the issues & there was no reason to (a) wait this long to start negotiations & (b) to cancel something good (CFL Week).
  15. Wants to be a Liberal.
  16. What these wags in the media don't know or conveniently forget with their indignation of tweets is that football participation is down. There aren't the same number of kids playing the sport as there was 10 years ago. That will affect junior as well as U Sport programs as time goes by. I would expect some smaller & less wealthy teams will eventually fold or drop football completely. If Halifax does come onboard with a tenth team it will get very difficult to find seven new starters. I don't like the number reduced either but it's a fact of life. Just this past season, 5 high schools in Calgary dropped their junior varsity programs (grade 10) because they couldn't field enough players to safely play. With an average of 40 players per team, that's 200 kids in Calgary alone that aren't playing high school football. In bantam & pee we football, there was one team eliminated in each division. On top of that, when my son played community football & I coached 15 years ago, each of the 8 pee wee & 12 bantam teams averaged about 50 players each. Today, that number is down to 30 or 35. The drop has been significant. That's just Calgary. What's it like in other cities across Canada?
  17. Actually, other than the panel, the coverage by TSN is dreadful. For reasons we all know starting with the talent in the broadcast booth.
  18. Well, when their own tv broadcaster doesn't care that is a problem. They never shows the CFL Awards or the CFL Combine. Only the first round of the CFL Draft is on the main network. The CFL brings in huge advertising revenue for TSN & the network could care less.
  19. Yeah, I'm with you on slowing things down a bit. Every episode has a lot going on & it's easy to miss a part of the plot for that episode & get behind. I still didn't learn much about Airiam before & during last night's episode.
  20. Another very good OL was Right Guard Larry Slagle. Here he is leading halfback Mack Herron on a sweep. However, I don't think he was an All Star which is a surprise.
  21. When each team had 2 territorial exemptions back in the 70's & 80's I don't recall there ever being any disputes between the 2 teams. They obviously worked it out.
  22. Thank you for adding Brown. He probably won't win but he was a very, very good player when Dieter Brock was our qb in the early 80's. Frank was an awesome player. http://www.cfhof.ca/members/bill-frank/
  23. If the CFL is going to do this then I hope the players have some room to negotiate. I remember Milson Jones & Stan Mikawos were territorial exemptions. I think Paul Robson, Gary Rosolowich & Rick Koswin were as well.
  24. They'd have no bargaining power. They are basically captives of the team that selects them. "Don't like our contract offer? Stay home kid. If you change your mind, call us. "
