A true enigma, that's for sure. The guy has talent but he can't put a team on his back anymore like he used to. I can see his career going in the same direction as Gino Lewis once his contract expires. I think his big paydays are coming to an end.

Well, we have a bunch of #2, #3 & #4 receivers now. Certainly no young guys. I guess White or Demski are the number 1's on any given game day. White is 32, Demski 30/31. Nield something like 29. Cobb is... who cares?

All head coaches recruit. That's part of their job at the college level. U Sport teams don't have scouts like pro teams do. They also don't have player personnel dierectors. With NIL in the US, college teams in D1 do now have GMs when they didn't before to track NIL.

Sure. Whatever you say. Comparing the WIFU & IRFU to the CFL today is pretty ludicrous. Football was a pretty simple game back in 1957. It was all man to man with zone defenses not even invented yet & the run game was probably 70% of all the plays. Other than the Alouettes passing attack under Peahead Walker, Sam Etcheverry was the first pro qb to throw for over 4000 yards. Winnipeg played the Split T with two halfbacks, two fullbacks & either one tight end & flanker or one split end & one flanker. It was easier for a totally inexperienced former player to step in as head coach along with two assistants. But don't let that stop you. Grant would never be hired as a Head Coach today right out of the playing ranks as pro head coach. BTW, Grant's one of my favourite head coaches along with Ray Jauch in the CFL & Bill Walsh & Don Shula in the NFL.

My feeling is they simply gave up on the guy. Young players will struggle at times. They should have brought Wheatfall back & let him compete for a spot.

I don't know if it's a generational thing. I mean, the cream always rises to the top for talent. There really isn't a course in university you can take on scouting players in any sports league. It's a hands on kind of thing. You do have to know the game you scout & have a sense of what makes a great player as well as see the intangibles. Go from there. Most scouts start at the bottom & work their way up still today. My point about Walters being hired was that at the time in 2014, the Bombers were the Ottawa RedBlacks of today. . We were the laughing stock of the entire CFL where coaches, players & especially qbs came to die. No one wanted to coach or manage here so Wade Miller really had no choice but to hire the two guys that really had no experience. Walters & Osh. Luckily, it worked out. It could have been another disaster. If Thomas wants to be a future GM then he'll have to get involved in scouting for the Bombers & have to give up his coaching duties in order to do it as he'll be on the road probably in U Sports in the fall watching games & gathering info. Also helping Walters with the CFL Draft. If he does have the chops to be a GM someday then great for him. Hopefully, he'll get a chance. .

Our passing attack is anemic.

Walters was involved in scouting & personnel under Joe Mack. Then became Asst GM under him. I don't believe anyone but Wade Miller thought he was really qualified to be GM but he came cheap. I don't think anyone else who would have been a star candidate wanted to come here at the time. I remember the rumours that greg Stubler was coming here but turned down the head coaching job. No idea if he was also offered the GM position.

Man, I used to know Jim barker real well when he was GM in Calgary. He had a football school & coached Tyler when he was a bantam player. I should have asked iof there was an opening. I never thought to do it. I coached as well. I had the same basic skill as Muchacho. . Sorry, I don't follow here.

Looking at that receiving group. The weakest in the CFL. I don't share your optimism. As Booch said, why let Wheatfall go? Sign him then if he doesn't measure up in TC you get rid of him. We let too many players walk after their first contracts. then we end up signing older & more expexsive playuers. Wheatfall could have been signed on the cheap. probably cheaper than Nield. Who hasn't earned his salary & has disappeared completely.

A potential future GM? A guy coaching the DL & is a realtor in New Brunswick who hasn't worked a day in personnel for the Bombers ios a furure GM? Just curious, what gives him a keen eye for business? I'm not saying it isn't true but there's been no mention of him doing any scouting or personnel work with Winnipeg.

To me, this is Walters & Osh making a decision. THEY didn't want him so no contract offer was given. Just a stupid move when you look at the receiving unit we have now.

I think Wheatfall is the leading receiver on the Cats. Or maybe second. That's crazy if true & we just let him walk.

Yeah, how many times have I read here that Keric Wheatfall wouldn't have helped us... I'll believe that when Hell freezes over. Draft or sign free agents & develop for other teams. One contract & done. Then let them walk. This time for the Ti Cats. It's what we do.

So then, someone like Jake Thomas went from being an overpaid DL to am under paid asst coach? I know the CFL doesn't pay well so why would these ex pros do it? Seems to me at 37 years of age, guys like Thomas should be pursuing active working careers then ibefore they age out nstead of coaching gigs that don';t pay well at all.
