Hmmm I'm not so sure about that.  Yes we need to contain Reilly, that is job 1.  But those guys don't suck.  At least when stacked up against other interior OL around the league.

Talk about prisoners of the moment!  All these posters writing off Wally Buono as a coach and GM after one game where his team was flat.  Pretty sure they won't be singing that tune in a few months.  Everybody, and I mean everybody, has bad games.

This is just one of those games that you chalk up to football.
I take nothing away from it.  Every team in this league can win any time they lace it up.  Some games, the coaches miss on the game plan and the players just aren't into it.  Jennings is a good QB and can become a great one.  He is a gunslinger though and just like Brock, Mcmanus , Burris and many more - when they get picked 3 times in a game, they are still going to believe they can fit the ball into a non-existent window and throw 2 more.  Fans think they are stupid, but love them when they bring their teams back from the brink using the exact same philosophy.

They thought Wally was done in 2011 when he started 0-5. They then proceeded to win the grey cup.. One game doesn't change anything. He's still a good coach/gm.

If it's one thing I've learned over the years is to never underestimate Coah Wally Buono, nor GM Wally Buono. He knows this game. He knows talent and he can definitely read a room.  Hence, prior to yesterday's game, he felt 'not so good vibes' emanating from the locker room. He didn't abdicate responsibility to try and change the mood, he relied on a proven veteran, that the players respect, to try and get them out of that funk. It didn't work. It will in the future.
The Lions biggest problem was falling into that trap of not being mentally ready, and it all started with their own QB. No way was Jennings ready, mentally or physically for that game, and the team followed his poor direction. They couldn't match the Riders intensity in any way, shape, or form.
Lulay, if he was healthy, would have fared better, as he is way more experienced in playing against the odds. Jennings is not mentallly tough enough yet. I don't know if he will get there either.
So, it was no contest, because the Riders were ready, and played a solid game, and the Lions were always chasing and didn't make any plays. When your QBs can't make plays, you're in trouble. And the Lions had a heap of that yesterday.

Well, Bombers can beat the teams they are "supposed" to beat.    Next tasks:  establish winning tradition on home turf, and knock of the teams, people think you "can't beat"
This upcoming Edmonton game would be a good starting point.

And re: Thursday, I don't think I've ever been more convinced of a win against an undefeated team. I was less confident we were going to beat Hamilton. I think we stomp Edmonton.
Reilly struggles with our defence for some reason. Their OL is beat up. Their DL is beat up. We're going to put the boots to them. Bombers by two possessions.

I don't think so.  Jennings passed for over 5000 yards and had 27 TDs against 15 INT.  He is legit.  Michael Bishop couldn't go ten passes without turning the ball over.  Great arm though.

It is always game to game.  The Ticats have no number one receiver and nobody that scares defenses.  Combine that with a QB who's gotten dinged this season, and the game plan is going to have extra rushers on every play.  That looks like they are becoming more aggressive. and I think behind the comment.  The Eskimos won't present the same game plan and the Bombers D will likely be less aggressive to protect some weak cover in the back end.

i dont see him as elite in the Mitchell/Reilly sense as he does not have the physical abilities of those two, but he might be one of the toughest competitors i have seen in the CFL recently.  He is a tough SOB with above average (but not elite) skill.  He wont win MOPs or even be a West All-Star but im stoked he is our starter and believe he can win us a cup, granted Richie Hall gives him some support.  He has surpassed my expectations and i think he will get better.

Heck no. They're completely different. Carrying the ball invites tackles and if you're not sliding, you're going to get targeted. In blocking, you can have the advantage.  I bet you that guy Nichols blocked never expected it. Now, if he did, Nichols might have been left on his can.
That play happened in real time. Nichols reacted. It's who he is. I'm going to assume he won't be doing much of that in the future, but if it's for a TD, all bets are off.

It wasn't an attempted block, it was a block. It worked.
Although Nichols didn't 'have to', it shows that he is all in.
You don't think Reilly would do the same? He would. They're called leaders. You know, above and beyond...
As far as injuries, he could get 'trucked' any time, even avoiding blocks. He was ready, willing and able.

?‍?Loved the block that Nichols threw at the end to help Harris' run. And don't think the players won't notice it in film study.
The little things that defines a championship caliber team. When your teammates see your QB making a big block to help Harris get a first down run late in the fourth, they'll do whatever it takes to win for you.

Forget the "don't lose your job to injury" line.
Coaches keep their jobs when they win.  They win by fielding the best team.
Those last two sentences because they explain 90% of the decisions any team makes.

Kelly was supposed to be a QB Guru....he was supposed to be the offensive genius.......his personal choices for QBs and how to use them were beyond awful and among the all time worst in league history. I've never been more embarrassed to be a Bombers fan than when he was here.

First rule of internet arguing: If you don't even have all the facts (Was he the GM???) then don't argue in the first place.
Spudsy, I don't often call you out, because frankly, it's too easy and it's not nice to pick on lessers.........but this is just an egregious case of talking out your ass, and those kinds of things can't be allowed on the internet.

I don't know.  Just wait.  When a team has a blatant missed catch and has to challenge to get it right, and then it happens AGAIN in a critical moment but the coaches can't challenge because they already used it on a legitimately bad call.  I think that will make fans even more upset than what we've seen so far.

Disagree.  The problem wasn't the number of challenges coaches could initiate, the process was the problem.  I would have limited PI reviews to video at regular speed, set a hard cap at decision within 90 seconds or inconclusive and eliminated the illegal contact review.  Just wait until someone loses a game on a botched PI call that they could have reviewed previously, the pendulum will swing right back around.

They've given every opponent they've faced so far a run for their money, IMO. They're a good team but prone to costly mistakes at inopportune times.
This should be a stiff test for the Bombers on Friday.

I consider this article to be an unusually bitter, personal attack on MOS. It's based on unfounded guesswork and a surprising lack of insight and research.
For shame Wiecek, it's really poor piecework designed to fan the flames of ignorance amongst those fans who know no better. It's pathetic really, and for one who is critiquing another so ruthlessly, you are embarrassing. And you will be considered that among your peers. Such a low brow column really doesn't deserve any consideration whatsoever and if you were only half the man MOS is, you'd still be considered a pathetic writer..

some years back, the team actually went so far as to ban access to Paul Friesen because of some things he said. I wouldn't be averse to the club at least "limiting" Paul Wiecek....

Just kind of speaks to what is wrong with this city.  Even when things are good all people can do is complain.  Fine to be critical, insane to basically sit around saying "the house is one degree too cold, I need to set it on fire."
13-5 last 18 games.  And how could you claim this team isn't entertaining?  If anything it's too damn entertaining.  Wiesel should be back at the horse track.  He doesn't know enough about real sports to put something forward worth discussing.
