  1. What a terrible thread. The Bombers are playing the most important game of the season to this point tomorrow and the discussion is an old retread on whether Nichols is a starting QB. At least it hasn't yet descending into a discussion about mortgages and sales training (unlike another thread here) This is not a great matchup for the Bombers. They played with the Stamps earlier in the season when Calgary looked like they usually do. I am not sure what is going on with the Calgary offense, but they still have an outstanding QB and a great OC/HC. The only difference I see this is year is that they have usually had an internal pipeline that filled in for injuries with players who already knew and understood their system. This year they have gotten players from outside and started them.
  2. I mostly agree with you. The only consideration holding me back is that he has a tendency to do the "westerman" and take a RTP or UR penalty that keeps an important drive alive. He has to stay in control.
  3. Can never have too many quality Canadian offensive linemen. We still start two imports on the line. If nothing else, they can be traded for pretty much anything short of a franchise QB.
  4. They are expected to have a 10 and 8 season... 10 arrests and 8 convictions.
  5. All but two teams are in the thick of it. Also, the usual bargaining chips used by buyers at a trade deadline is prospects and/or draft picks. While important, the CFL draft is not the immediate game changer of other leagues. The other thing about professional football is that scheme and ratio-management are huge. An MLB team picking up a starting pitcher or an NFL team picking up a second line centre can be plug and play. There are very few situations that a player can arrive and contribute without an equal amount of disruption. While fans love the idea of putting together a fantasy football team, the reality is much different.
  6. Tip of the hat to the schedule-makers. What a lineup of games down the stretch. Still lots can happen. These next 4 weeks are going to be a lot of fun.
  7. Probably just a typo, but Walby played right tackle for most of his career.
  8. Spin, spin, spin. This is funny. I have been part of several organizations who have written off large debts. It never once had any impact on the veracity of which we pursued the debt or the legal responsibility of the debtor to have to pay it. The Bombers still need to meet their financial commitments. Nothing to see here. Move on. Unless you enjoy righteous indignation. Then, please proceed and enjoy.
  9. Sure there is. The team just has to work out a deal with the Bombers to trade them Durant. The Bombers would likely do it for a third rounder. The Bombers would then pay $70K for a third round draft pick. It is not great, but better than what they have today.
  10. This is going to be an interesting board if the Bombers beat the Stampeders on Saturday. And I think there is a very good chance that they will.
  11. Has everyone given up the season that they want to play all these rookies? There is still a full half season to go and the Bombers may very well make a run. Do you have any idea what Calgary and Saskatchewan defenses will do if they got to play a rookie (as in no pro experience anywhere) QB and two rookie receivers (one fresh from CIS the other from the juniors)? I get over-reaction Monday, but it is now Tuesday. Maybe common sense should prevail.
  12. I think you are correct on all points. The only caveat is whether the Riders want him at the time he finally uses up his opportunities in the NFL. He should be able to kick there for another 5 years.
  13. I think I heard that part of the rationale for not making Bighill a bigger offer was to save some capo for Awe when he came free because they were pretty sure he would. It will be interesting to see if Awe gained weight for the NFL opportunity. If that is the case he may not make much of an impact until next season.
  14. The option that Saskatchewan might go for would be to fire Jones the GM and Lord of the Green, and keep Jones the HC. He is a very good coach. If not, then they would not have won the games they have the last couple of years. They are still a team nobody wants to play. I would not be surprised if they beat the Stamps this week for instance.
  15. This just shows great coaching. The Bombers do not have an upper echelon receiver and so he is making it work with scheme. If you have the studs that Hamilton, BC and Edmonton have, then you are going to use their strengths and certain guys are going to get the ball a lot more. When the Bombers had the best receiver in the game, Lapo would feed him and work off the coverage other teams deployed against him. When you have Darvin Adams instead of Milt as your #1, you are going to mix it up a lot and find ways to use everyone's strengths.
  16. I actually agree with this statement … from The Source. It am … surprised.
  17. It is possible that the Bombers could start an additional NI receiver and use Lankford as a DI. Then one of their usual DI's could play whenever needed. Maybe an extra DB. I don't think it is likely, but it is possible.
  18. Once upon a time there was a wonderful place called Canad Inns Stadium. We must be careful not to speak about this time too loudly, but the memories of such a place warm us in this cold and horrible place and time we find ourselves in now. There was parking for 33,000 vehicles within 20 steps of any entrance into the stadium. Hundreds of invisible doves flew constantly around the stadium and would sweep down and take anyone who could not walk these 20 steps easily and they would carry them right up to their seat. Every fan was treated with an incredible 7 course meal for the sum of $1, or pocket lint if they did not have a loonie. It was such an incredible experience and everyone in the land was happy. Then a dark cloud covered the land. An evil presence was felt by all in the great land of Winnipeg. A booming voice was heard by all and the ground trembled. It was the evil Asper! The evil Asper tore down this beloved treasure, the Canad Inns Stadium. There was much weeping. The evil Asper banished the invisible doves to the island of Hecla where they were forced to play golf on a deserted course day and night. There was much weeping - though they were also confused about the island of Hecla. The evil Asper constructed a dungeon on a desolate and dark precipice of land that could only be reached by Sherpas riding mountain goats. The evil Asper then taxed the good people of the land of Winnipeg until they were all paupers in order to pay for his new dungeon that he named IGF. 10 times per year, the evil Asper and his evil henchmen would round up thousands of the now homeless people of Winnipeg and force them using pointed sticks and hobnail boots to walk the entire 100 mile stretch without the aid of mountain goats to reach his dungeon. While in this dungeon, the evil Asper forced the poor wretches to eat cold hotdogs and held them there until their families could find a way to scrape together the tonne of gold bricks that was needed to this sustenance. When the weather would get cold, he would even tell them that he had no hot chocolate! When the wailing was at its peak, they could hear the violin playing from the distant tower where the evil Asper would cackle and contemplate new indignities for his minions to endure while being held in his dungeon called the IGF. And there was much weeping throughout the land. Could there be a hero somewhere who could free the people of Winnipeg of their misery?
  19. Yes, but anyone who suggests that either were a serious option at the time is re-writing history. Neither had any money behind them and would have cost 3 to 4 times the money to make viable. There were two viable options put forward. If not for our present situation, then we would still be sitting in Canad Inns stadium 10 times a year.
  20. Any head coach in any sport making a statement like that sounds like the kiss of death.
  21. The Jets playoff run definitely has a major impact on the Bombers bottom line. Mostly the casual fans, but these are the ones that make the difference between a break even year and a profitable one.
  22. 3 - 2 seems reasonable. Would like to have a better record, but then you consider the competition to date and we are barely over .500.
  23. If Adams lights it up and Johnny shows poorly, then it would be very funny. If this were to actually happen, then Adams would become the QB again for the last third of the year, there is a reasonable chance that the Als would make the playoffs in a bad Eastern conference, and Kavis would keep his job despite doing everything possible to screw it up. Again, that would be very funny.
  24. The stadium looks better on TV than in person. It feels like a second rate stadium. Parking is not easy at the best of times. If you live in the burbs and battle crazy traffic on a 2 hour commute every day, the last thing you want is to drive into the city on a weekend to watch a game when your franchise QB has just been knocked out for the rest of the year - especially when you can watch the game in your own living room on your 60" LCD screen with surround sound. And believe me, the average football fan will fit into their lazy boy at home a whole lot better than those cheap plastic seats designed for a 5 foot, 120 pound person.
