2022 Off Season - Back 2 Back Champs Edition
wbbfan replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Bucky hodges is 26 been out of football since end 2019. 6 foot 6 260 4.5 40 40 inch vertical 134 inch broad jump. Good pass catching te. Go look at the bottom draft and un drafted for 3 years before him. You'll come up with a dozen elite big athletes at te under 30 out of football. Go down to 4.6 and 4.7 40 range or down to sub 250 lbs sub 6 foot 5 and you can find excellent route runner and pass catchers. They aren't guys who can block down a 250lbs nfl rusher though 1 on 1. The nfl hates situational players. 3rd down backs n such. -

That's simply not true. Tons of athletic big flex tes are available. It's deeper that rb. Last time this came up I posted 5 guys who blew away that standard. Nfl teams don't carry many tes and more most teams roster 1 pass catching te these days. In our wr core demski is about the fastest. Most wrs are not 4.4 guys any more. Tes not wrs. Ya there are literally lots of guys lost as big athletic tes. It's easily the most abundant athletic position in football. -

Qft. Imagine a team bringing in a 6 foot 5 250 lbs guy who runs a 4.5 40 and teams trying to defend that with a 5 foot 10 195lbs Sam. The us game especially the nfl used to be behind the cfl in terms of offensive innovation. But not the cfl offense is stagnat and the nfl has way more advanced and creative offenses. They run the spread better than cfl teams now. Mostly they run flex spreads with a te but that a lone would tear it up up here. 15 ish years ago cfl was more interesting to watch than it is now. We used to have teams running match zone or 3 4 front or cover 0 bend but don't break etc. Now all the defenses play similarly just with slight variations in cover frequency. The fits are all the same. Some teams just play the run better. Offenses are the same. 5 by 1 mostly some faking of an 11 formation mostly with a wr on the line. Lots of tight wr formations and tight zone running. Remember when the renegades had a fun to watch offense with kj running rpo and qb option with ranek? Or the als running 5 verts. 2 back power and split zone with 2 running backs playing off each other. If the cfl wants to hit the younger demographic teams should get out of the vanilla and back to the creative. -

I thought it was this or push his way to a decent team with a half decent ol. Maybe he comes back, idk when he'd be eligible as a FA. Like obby kahn did when he left here and went the to stamps. BC is in an interesting position. I imagine they just became the primary target of trevor harris and leverage point for MBT. Or a reason for masoli to get the jab. -

Yeah despite the talk of how bad 1 year deals are, this might be the thinnest crop of free agents in the 1 year era. The winner of 2022 free agency is probably going to be a team that gets a couple sneaky good pick ups. A young guy like Exhume. Or a vet coming off a down year like judge, or nevis. A team filling a long time hole with a guy like don jackson or mario alford. Or a team that gets a limited use player and gives them serious reps like woli, brady, or johnny o. For us, free agency is mostly about bringing guys back. But you still have to get better every year. Some of that can be organic, but adding new pieces is always huge. Depth canadians like the herdmen reeds, ante litre, or especially a rotational front 7 NI like boateng or betts would be huge. More likely I think we'd be looking at guys like adam konar, junior turner, stefan charles or david menard. We are some what fortunate that we dont really need to fill gaps in the roster, we need to maintain and turn over a few more gems to keep the train going. -

Very interesting hire. Cui has a tremendous background in sports management. Its interesting that they did this AFTER hiring jones. -

https://3downnation.com/2022/01/24/elks-re-sign-rb-james-wilder-jr-will-be-vaccinated-by-training-camp-report/ Looks like flexmaster bicepspump will be back to strut his stuff after every 5 yard run. And will be vaccinated. This may as well be back 2 back champs news because I love watching our defense eat his lunch and make him pout. -

You sure arent wrong. But damn, any one who thinks giving up lawlers talent and skill for 2 inches and 15lbs probably has mortgaged every thing they own to invest in doge coin. He makes even less sense. He's an average athlete for a guard/tackle in the body of a TE. A good 10+ te's are out of football right now that would be elite NFL athletes at the position. 50+ TEs are out of football who are dramatically more athletic then kalinick as blocking TEs. Though atleast with a guy like him if he has the right mind set he can be a career special teams guy in the NFL. -

I wouldnt be surprised if stove is waiting to see if he can garner any NFL interest. Probably wont happen, but I dont think any team is going to give him major dollars coming off a season where he missed a bunch of games. And not soo many teams are utilizing a nose. But DT money is always much lower than DE. So doesnt hurt for him to wait and have his agent try to drum up interest down south. -

No team has remotely enough players under contract to be worrying about the cap. That said I don't trust a few teams management as far as I could throw them. -

He was one of the most physically dominant linemen in his some what limited reps. He's a nasty mauler and would've started on any other team in the league. Ruby got a deal If he gets a pass Eli will too. He's not like ruby or Masoli. -

Eli got 1 shot and not the other. And had it for a while. If I had to guess he couldve had a bad reaction to it. Its nothing like masoli being very anti vax. I think he will get the shot and be back this year. If he doesnt, his career is over. If he does, he could be 1 year as a starter away from an NFL deal. He was here for 2 grey cups, he clearly is NOT a FO guy. He clearly fits in in the locker room. I think a team friendly deal is certainly in order. Got a link? All I've been seeing is speculation that he will get vaxxed. Because just like eli no jab no career. -

Couture is an interesting one. Idk what to expect. Best case scenario if Couture and desjarlais leave is Eli gets his 2nd shot and starts at center while gray starts at guard. -

Man we are sooo lucky to not just have a great qb and team but a great person and group of people. No matter how this dynasty or the careers powering them ends this is an all time great group of football people. And we are very lucky to have them. -

Which is dumb. It should be a no decision like in baseball. Starter leaves with a lead the lead is blown he gets a nd the reliever who gave up the lead gets a loss. -

Truth. It is hard to find qbs with projectable arm talent and the mine to execute. I imagine finding all that and a fifo locker room guy isn't easy. -

True. Iirc he played like half of 19 at s when he came back from injury but that moment was critical to both gc wins. Idk if any one is more under rated. -

I thought Castillo had 2022 under contract from when he extended or re activated or what ever. Might be wrong but I also don't think he gets an NFL call. Right now we have a kind of scary number of must signs. Ba was the most under rated defensive player in the league last year. -

Omg that's hilarious I'd never heard that before thanks for sharing. It's a pick em between moss and Megatron imo. But I'd probably go with Megatron. Watching him play it looked like he could've kicked it into another gear and gone all Michal Jordan any time he wanted. Those two wrs are just from another planet. Funny thing is they could likely improve their ol with the couple imps they've plucked recently but still have the worst ol and be even worse off ratio wise. He's a 100k a year back up qb. And yes as many people will point out he is nuttier than an out house rat. Between Masoli mbt and streveler who do you take if you need a starting qb? Masoli is the better qb but he's anti clutch. And an anti vax nut bag. I'd still take streveler. I'll bet on heart and a good head on his shoulders every time. I actually think Montreal would be a great spot for strevy. Rpo former great qb in khari who has worked well with mobile qbs who are limited passers great run game and wrs. -

Good point. The amount of great ocs who didn't play qb and didn't have a qb with a great system teach them is tiny. It's like trying to make all pro in the nfl being 100 lbs soaking wet. If plop could recognize his limitations and bring in a guy like a younger Dinwiddie help make the playbook but let his oc call the game and coach qbs he could be successful. He is a good personnel coach. But that wouldn't happen. Even if he wanted it I don't think it's possible with the coaching cap.
