  1. To be fair a futures contract really means you're TCF and will be cut in camp. A guy like desjarlais isnt gonna take that, he'd want a real contract. We see the NFL grabs cfl guys that are questionable some times. Who was that return man we cut mid season and went to the vikings or some thing?
  2. When he gets his ring its probably going to be the 50$ fan ring with 8 of 15 engraved in it.
  3. Lenius' season was comparable to 'Sheeds. Bailey did a lot more in terms of blocking, and had more production but played with the best qb in the league. Lenius played with a CJ, who could throw a riding lawn mower down field about as well as a football. 52 catches on 72 attempts, 629 yards, 214 yac, 5 tds, for a 12.1 avg and a long of 50. 37 catches on 55 attempts, 471 yards, 128 yac, 4 tds, for a 12.7 avg, and a long of 53. Sheed is 6'1 208, and Lenius is 6'5 220. And to be fair, Lenius' 4.7 40 time is pretty similar to most of our wrs. He took a step that guys like simonise and peterson never did. And out produced woli the last 2 years. Though woli has never gotten the chance he had in his 2nd year here. And he blocks even more than Bailey. If bailey had a better start to the year he'd probably be getting a bit of NFL interest too.
  4. To be fair it was a short season but yeah, its a reach. The NFL does reach some times for underperforming guys who fit a certain mold. Isnt the option window thing open? Why did they release him to go shouldnt he have just been able to sign or w/e?
  5. But hey atleast they are locking up that ol. Can't be easy to keep the worst ol In cfl history together.
  6. True, but if he played with simoni lawrence his chances of staying healthy would go up a decent bit. 😉
  7. The only guy that could maybe will that team to win is michael reilly. I dont think any cfl fa available turns them into a serious title contender. They'd need to find a "the next guy". Tecmo bowl bo jackson kinda of guy.
  8. True. You always need to stretch the defense in more than 1 direction. That deep threat doesnt need to be the fastest guy, but on top of that having a shifty fast yac guy who can bust big gains on cut backs while the defense is stretched out is huge. If you add a running qb to that you have an incredibly dangerous offense that can help an inexperienced ol out a lot.
  9. winnipeg gonna win, crigina gonna cry. Hilarious though considering they are the reason why we have coaching staff caps, and theyve been punished like 4 seasons running for all kinds of crap. But still carry more guys on the IR and suspended list then the rest of the league combined.
  10. From the reported number iirc its like 20k more a year. But who knows, willy could get a side job selling cars or working as a rep for an easy extra 100k a year.
  11. One of my favorites as well. And one of my very favorite football people. There is a bunch of great Xs and Os coaches im fascinated with and think very highly of (mcvay and the disciples of shanahan, lincoln riley, chip kelly, joe moorehead, ryan day etc) but guys like Walsh and mos who took Xs and Os to the next level and bring high level character top to bottom and package it with class is special. We dont see it as much today with mos as he really lets his COs call the plays, but his teams coaching was next level. And his overhaul with hall on our defense part way through 19 was instrumental in our success. It all depends on which kongbo shows up to NFL camp. If the king kongbo that was player late in the season and play offs shows up he's gone for good. If the kongbo that we saw prior in the season shows up he might sit on a pr and come back half way through the year at latest.
  12. us, montreal 2000s, toronto 90s, the edmonton 5 peat, ott RR 68/69 the bombers twice 58-62, edmonton 3 peat in the 50s, argos 3 peat in the 40s, argos in the late 30s, queens ottawa and hamilton in the 20s, toronto and hamilton prior to ww1.
  13. Truth. Rb is the deepest position in all of football. But guys with the passport are still pretty scarce. The argos tried to corner the market on Lbers this year, but didnt really succeed. They just log jammed their roster. The bombers have quietly corner the market on NI rbs. Thats true, but I was talking from lawlers perspective. For walters, if you are looking at offering say 150k, and get him for 125k but he has the ability to make 175k if he has a tremendous year it could be better then letting him go to FA where some team could offer him 175k out right. Dont forget duke williams made 140k+ last year for 6 games. I could see at the very least TO and ott opening the vault for him.
  14. Or do what hamilton did with june jones. Understand that you dont have a 5 man unit that is capable of protecting the qb long enough to run the 5-1 spread and add protection. 11 form with a primary blocking back, 21, 20 etc. For years the spread offense was looked down upon as not viable because putting the qb in the gun with 5 ol made him a sitting duck. The big adjustment that really brought the spread to high level d1 schools and the NFL is versatile TEs, and more recently versatile flex tes. The difference between getting pressure of the edge when a TE is on the line vs not is big. Even in block and release or pure route running. Having to run around a line 1 man wider is big. When a team lines up in the pistol with no te you can cut down the qbs time by a lot. Teams will blitz more too. They know one way or another they can cut down the qbs time. Even if they dont get a pressure or a sack they can prevent time to throw a deep ball. With the extra man on the line you can get stalemated in the rush and beat deep. 15 ish years ago teams had a lot more unique identity in the offense and defense they ran. Today, the variability is very low. The big differences in 21 was 1 mtl/edm running much more RPO (though not running it really well) and 2 the bombers for one running out of farm more sets. Many of the same plays and looks, but with a more varied pre snap look. The defenses had even less variability. Bend but dont break secondary's and layered pass rushing trying to take away time for the deep ball rules the cfl. So every one is fighting to fill the same type of roster gaps, with a limited or none existent supply of players in the market. The success the riders have had (over achieving a lot imo) the last 2 seasons has had a lot to do with a very limited qb who has a different skill set. More teams need to think out side the box and get creative. A team like ottawa has 0 chance of filling all its roster holes and turning into a bluebomber esq team this year. For a team like that to break out, they have to break the mold.
  15. Yeah, reilly has taken a hellacious beating the last 2 seasons. I dont think he should go back to BC for 2022. They dont have a chance at getting a good OL together. Theyve tried buying it, they dont have developmental pieces, and every other team in the league is looking hard to fix their OL. They arent 1 guy away and whole sale changes take a long time to gel 9 times out of 10.
  16. Yeah I was really surprised. It always seemed that hank on the panel was the same hank we saw on the field. Unlikeable as it gets. But BLM had the ****** aura completely gone with the absence of competition. He has a tremendously bright 2nd career as a broadcaster if he wants it. And I sure hope he does.
  17. Did reilly restructure last year? Wonder what hes due this year. If any one makes a nut, I think itll be collaros. I think he could get 500k+ if he really wanted to.
  18. The mafia is generally used to refer to the trinity of wade most and walters. But its really, really deep. danny mac, goveia, soo many players, coaches, and un sung franchise workers. The 01 team was a small group of mafioso, this team is a dynasty because they own the mafia standard top to bottom. Bill walsh talked about that in his book the score takes care of it self. That the day he took over he sat down with every one out side of football operations. He made sure that every thing, from the way the place was cleaned to how to phones were answered was done the 49er way. The mafia have done the exact same thing here. They didnt build a roster or a team, they built a franchise that would stand as a dynasty.
  19. id take him at 150k for as many years as he wants to sign for. If I was him I'd gamble on a lower base high incentives deal. I think in an 18 game schedule he'd put up huge numbers.
  20. Yeah and fox reported riley as having 27 years of experience, 10 in the nfl and 17 in college. 😆 Could be that he was gunning for the HC job, and thought he'd have a chance with coach O possible NCAA bound. With coach O staying he's kind of stuck. Montreal is a good team that under performed. He could possibly move up and not just to khari's spot but he could get a front office title too. Am I alone in thinking thats atleast 100k more than he should get? I mean oof I would not want to have a guy like that on a base salary that high.
  21. Shoeless Joe? Say it ain't so...
  22. These guys made us back to back Champs. Nothing would make me happier than to see then have great nfl Careers. Cept maybe back to back to back in Regina I hope yoshi is like rod Hill meets buck Pierce. Coach here and after he's done coaching still be a winnipeg fixture.
  23. Wasn't he projected to start for a while in camp too? Real question is when does cam Meredith come back lol. I bet rocquemore is back too
  24. It doesn't really. Woli plays like a flex te. He blocks almost as much as he catches balls.
