There’s a window for players with non-expiring contracts. Betts had an off-season bonus in his contract, he’s not eligible for that window so until his contract expires, he’s in a holding pattern.

There’s a bit more to it than that, with the restrictions of “futures” contracts and stuff, but it’s all a complicated mess

I saw he got one before last season - where’d you see that he got one this year?

    His contract?

Evan Holm doesn’t have a contract?

Betts is a pending free agent and Holm isn’t.

Why would a free agent be more restricted?

Betts could be intriguing as a situational edge rusher who plays passing downs only and I guess if that’s a role a team has a spot for, could be some interest.

In the CFL sure.  You just described his whole role.

He isn’t doing that in the NFL.

More so that he’s wasting his time and shouldn’t try for it.

I don’t care if he tries it if not. He clearly didn’t get anywhere near the offer he thought he would and is willing to be a camp body for no pay.

There was zero talk about him getting any work outs or having any interest from the NFL up until the negotiation window.

He’s probably getting offered 200k - which I still wouldn’t do- and knows that will still be available in May from someone.

Agree, it sure looks like he was game managed last season for what is likely a chronic hip injury.  If they can sign Jeffcoat for one more season and he spends 6 meaningless games mid-late season on the IR, it saves valuable cap money and it's the perfect opportunity to find his replacement and get him up to speed, be it Haba or someone else.

The uncertainty actually cap management- not to mention the roster in general.

Also - we didn’t have 6 meaningless games mid-late season and you sure as hell can’t plan for that.

Other teams are full aware of his injury issues...so top end money won't come his way from them either...hence why you havn't heard his name in any deals...so if its a case Team X offers him 19ok to 205k and we say we can make it work at 170k...175k....No doubt he sticks here, but to speak to that other point makes it even more imperative that we scrap the Jackson use and field another rotational end not named Bennet...or use snaps to play an interior guy outside and further bagging them out.

For WJ and JJ to be effective...Heck any duo you want and need another guy spelling them off...if not 2....and then you can use them in different front all together...this is where we have failed badly last 2 yrs...and its shown

I’m ready to move on from JJ.

Sometimes business works both ways - I want Davis II

JOD is going Xmas shopping and will be stressing out when the credit card bill comes.

yeah everyone is banged up....but 3 guys who shouldn't even been on the filed is bad....and then dressing a back-up in Mcrae...who also wasn't good enough to be effective as witnessed by not even seeing the field once, as a back-up to the 2 injured guys on offence...is even worse....especially when Demski was far from healthy too....but in that area of for playoff ball healthy enough...Bailey...Schoen..Biggie and McCrae had no business being on roster

well....no....not across the board....and not to the point it limits your play.....

I’m sure Sergio feels fine after week one.
