He is a guy with all kinds of tools and intangibles, and he showed well as a rookie. I think we are allowed to be positive about the guy. 

Until we start losing. Same old story, the backup qb is the most popular player on the team.

Here’s the reality with Nichols ... he had a better than average (for him) night and tossed up three balls that were good looking - one to Lawler for a nice little gain, one to Woli that was just not executed and one to Matthews that the CGY DB made a good play on.
Rest of the game? Safe garbage. So predictable. Not scaring anyone. Not stomp on your throat, smash mouth, prove you can stop us, not nothing. Equal parts LaPolice and Nichols go into the conversation of why our O is so inept, but no matter what blame you wanna place where, the reality is our offense sucks.
Matthews didn’t forget how to play wideout, Lucky Whitehead hasn’t suddenly just forgotten how to be a weapon ... etc, etc, etc. We don’t use our weapons. If Grant doesn’t put two in the end zone tonight, we lose handily. Our O has been **** for a minimum of three games and the combo of play calling / QB play is showing absolutely zero signs of improvement. We may finish 13-5 but this year is not going to be a Grey Cup year.
as an aside, I always find it funny that people will crap on Willie Jefferson and justify it by singling out the odd notable play here and there when he isn’t elite but they’ll turn a blind eye to how atrociously mediocre Nichols is.

At this point I'll take Streveler and his "potential" complete with the mistakes over Matt and his inability to play 4 solid quarters.   

Strev had very much shown he cant step back and deliver the ball consistently down field.  

Nichols and his situation reminds of Denzel Washington's character in Remember The Titans, one loss and hes fired. 
The anti Nichols fans at this point are rabid. 
Matt did not shoot the lights out, not even close. But hes still our best option.  
Strevs aint even close to being ready to lead our offense through a whole game. 
 
Hes a bit player, any who think he s ready for prime time are dreaming instead of seeing. 

Bigger picture. 3 games in a row with below avg qb play.. No interceptions tho but soon teams will know the checkdown is coming and that's the problem. 33 minutes time of possession.. 16 first downs.. 180 ish passing. Less than 300 total 0 again. 
Lapo isnt calling 14 checkdowns a game. That's on Nichols. 

Strevelers record as a starter ain't no screaming hell. He's not as good a passer as Nichols. Yeah he's a better runner, but he's still raw. Needs more time before he's ready to take the reigns. 

So Calgary didn't have to divide their attention between Harris and Nichols?  Wonder why...  I guess Nichols is no threat... and that's the problem... turtled on his 2nd down run earlier in the game instead of trying to make the necessary yardage... not something you'd see from Streveler.  It's scary when the Bombers have the lead in the 2nd half and Nichols is in his play-not-to-lose mode.   And if two of those deep balls get caught, everything changes... perhaps... but if the Stamps made two more plays that they didn't, perhaps they win.  This team is going to need a lot more production from the QB to win another Grey Cup, so the sooner Streveler is anointed the starter, the sooner we'll find out whether he's up for the task.  With Matt, the writings on the wall.

Yep, all of those guys can run, catch and block.  There’s no defense in the league equipped to defend that kind of option attack.  Who’s the biggest LB in the league?  235 lbs?  Most teams have at least one guy playing in the box who’s 200 or less.  Good luck.  Plus you still have Adams, Thompkins, Wolitarsky etc downfield, Dressler when he is back.  Streveler is a far better passer than most QBs you’d try to run this with so you can have a ton of variety. 
Hell even if they ran looks like this 20 times a game it would totally **** up every D and their planning.  You can basically give Nichols some scaffold to get his mojo back.

I've been saying this for weeks now. Imagine a formation with Harris Demski Flanders Streveler that's bent on running the football with some hand-off misdirection/play option at the core. That's gotta be hard to defend.

I don't think it is an issue with the play calling...hard to determine if it is Nichol's not being able to execute on all the options, or gets jitters and just want to dump it off for fear of getting injured further..and I don't think he is 100 percent...in body and mind
I see receivers open...or in a position to be thrown open or lead to a ball...and Nichols isn't pulling the trigger for whatever reason. Also...teams know he is no threat to run this year, and basically disregard that in their pass rush, and even on a play action/roll out...they know he ain't going anywhere. Tho he was no major threat or consistent runner before, the ability/threat was there...and that is huge in an offence to hum along nicely.
The fact that Harris is able to accomplish what he is right now is amazing and is a tribute to his talent...and the o-line...now if we could insert a QB who can threaten a defense with the notion he may take off, as well as stand in and make intermediate passes and utilize the offence then we will be onto something...but right now..Nichols funk is affecting things big time and it is the issue we have sputtered..
 
 

I believe the injury Nichols suffered at the beginning of the year is really impacting his play. I also believe he really only trusts Harris, Dressler, and Adams. As soon as Dressler got injured it seems like he's only going to Harris or Adams, and it becomes easy to defend. Same thing happened last year when Dressler went out, then Adams. Also, Nichols can't throw a deep ball, and never has been able to.
Put Streveler in and watch him distribute the ball all around. Just look how much more Wolitarsky was involved in the games where Streveler started. I believe Wolitarsky is not being used enough.
Nichols is not the same player he was last year, and I'm scared that waiting for him to regain his form is going to put us on the outside looking in come playoff time...

Yah but you watch Masoli flee the pocket, re-set and find receivers down field.  Nichols does not even attempt to do that, once he's out of the pocket he's like a chicken on the run and usually just flings the ball out of bounds.  Not saying Nichols is as athletic as Masoli, but right now he doesn't have any composure.
