dmillerywg got a reaction from Al Bundy in Rookie Camp Discussion & Reports - Day 2
I was able to go for about 20 minutes you are not missing much, when I was there the Oline and Dline where doing drills and the others did a punt coverage drill with 3 players going down vs the returner and the coaches stressed the 5 yards it was a bit boring since it was just trying to teach the new players about the 5 yard rule, the only 2 players that caught my eye for no reason in particular other than I thought who is that where #50 Warden and #22 Randle , I did watch some of the OL vs DL and at first the Oline was doing well then the Dline players started to dominate. My first look at Chungh wasn't good he got flattened by one of the Dline ( Chungh did look much better in the scrimmage ) . I stayed for the Scrimmage and it was uneventful for the most part all QB got reps and they rotated players in and out every 2 plays or so it was hard to tell much from the scrimmage...

Mimms is a monster the only issue might be he is too tall to throw over ? and our RECs looked good I didn't have a player list with me but I picked out Reaves and Richards both big targets that can run, neither had any balls thrown their way when I was watching...
Anderson ( RB ) looks very small... short and light not sure he will be able to make it as a RB in the CFL...

Blue Bombers Declare Mini-Camp a Resounding Success

The Winnpeg Blue Bombers concluded their 3-day mini-camp in Bradenton, Florida on Tuesday and both General Manager Kyle Walters and Head Coach Mike O?Shea declared it a complete success.   Walters said they identified at least 20, maybe 25 players, from the group of 51 that are worthy of being invited to the teams main training camp in late May.

Practice had good tempo, the players worked hard and competed every day, the last period of the last practice was still hi-tempo.  Now, the next step is to do a complete evaluation, watch all the film again and decide who should be added to our training camp roster said Walters.  He added there will be tough decisions.  The salary cap end of things combined with the personnel we have seen here, the job now is to piece together the best 75-man training camp.

Walters and OShea both said there were receivers, linebackers, defensive backs and defensive lineman who caught their attention.   Defensive back Johnny Adams from Michigan State, linebackers TraShaun Nixon from New Mexico State and C.J. Wilson from Western Michigan, receivers Ja-Mes Logan from Ole Miss, Lavon Downs from Delta State and Jhomo Gordan from Bethune Cookman all had strong performances.   So did 3 big offensive tackles in 6-foot-8, 331 pound David Mims of Virginia Union, Zebrie Sanders from Florida State and Corey Lewis of Illinois.   Offensive tackle is not an area of great need for the Bombers but at least one of those 3 is expected to get a camp invitation.

Perhaps the most impressive player in the mini-camp was defensive end Derrell Johnson from East Carolina.  The 6-1, 255 pounder showed a great burst along with strength and agility.  The Bombers see him as the classic rush end they didn?t have last year.

Regarding the contract situation with quarterback Drew Willy, Walters refused to discuss any details of the negotiations with Willy?s agent, but he did says if Willy doesnt sign an extension by the start of the season, they will wait until the end of 2015 to resume discussions.  Willy is heading in the final year of his two year deal.     I have high Hopes for Derrell Johnson we need a much stronger pass rush this year, Vega was not very impressive last season.

I found this in the SUN http://www.winnipegsun.com/2015/04/20/protecting-willy-improving-run-key-to-bombers-offence
The Bombers held their first of two practices this morning at IMG Academy, and the receivers did a much better job of holding on to the ball than they did on Sunday. Winnipeg native Jordan Reaves was noticeably better in that department after a rough opening day of mini-camp.

dmillerywg got a reaction from blitzmore in Do you think Cheveldayoff is doing a good job?
Agreed it isn't easy however Chevy likes to develop within and I don't see anyone inside the organization that is ready to step up even the high pick ( can't remember his name ) looks to be years away based on his size and stats....

If you look hard enough you will find someone, all we heard in the off season was Chevy saying he had confidence in Pavs and the fact that he had lost lots of weight and was in top shape well losing 2 pounds and playing to his career save percentage isn't getting it done. Yes he plays well enough to win 2/3 games
but we need goalie that can steal a game 1/3 and play well enough to win in all games...

If you look at the Goalie stats your goalie needs to have at least a .910 save percentage to get you into the playoffs and Pavs is a career .906
Those few extra saves here and there make that much of a difference. And Pavs has played more games than any other Goalie ?

    McGuffie Time ?

    Time for Some Hurdling ?

    Time for a Spark ?

Here's an idea Sit Romby and play a younger faster heavier player that will try and break tackles instead of avoiding them.

Rombys time has passed he can still run yes but he doesn't go into the tough areas and he doesn't seem to have chemistry with Willy...

Special Teams let us down again its a recurring theme... Blocked Punt and contacting the Kicker cost us points... While I agree it wasn't a penalty on 2 levels the player was blocked in and the kickers foot was on the ground ( as well the Kicker is a good actor..)  You have to ask yourself why when kicking into the wind knowing are are getting the ball in a good position why wouldn't a good special teams co-ordinator stress DON'T GO NEAR THE KICKER on that play there was no need to take the chance of a penalty when we would be getting the ball on the 40-50 yard line ?

The reason teams run the ball is to kill the clock, SASK won all 3 games vs us mainly because we couldn't stop the run regardless of what O'Shea says...
Yes other factors contributed ( blocked FG for a TD ) but running kills the clock and gives the other team less time to score points.

Agreed not sure how Kuale gets in when Vega doesn't ? It seems to me that Ian Wild didn't play after he got banged up on the Messham TD I don't recall him playing after that.

The Past 2 games we have been getting held badly and the Refs are missing the calls vs SASK at a key point in the game Brendan Labatte got away with a hold that had me shaking my head he was locked up with his man and saw a player coming free and reached out and grabbed the player around the neck to prevent the pressure coming up the middle. Not sure how he got away with it but it was a great effort ! As for the Toronto Game I didn't watch it that close but it seems that they got away with Many close calls/holds. The way our D is designed we need to be fast to the ball and if the Refs aren't making the calls it really hurts us.
