This is going to provoke no end of bad (and sexist) jokes, but apparently the captain of said ship was........(ahem) female and the first and only female captain to ever helm a ship through the Suez Canal.

That would be weird. Usually they have pilots that take the ships through canals and into dense harbours.

                            Huge news

I was reading an article, which I'm going to go look for again, that discussed how the failures of developing an HIV vaccine accelerated the success of the Covid vaccines. Everything they learned trying new and different techniques have given researchers many new tools in their fight against other viruses. Investment in science does not always have the immediate and obvious desired outcomes but we learn a lot from our failures.

Nova Scotia organ donation presumed consent law takes effect

Nova Scotians who don’t choose to opt out of donating their organs and tissue will be considered as having agreed to be a donor after death.

Nova Scotia became the first province or state in North America to pass such legislation when the act was passed unanimously in April 2019.

Now, we need our gov't to do that too.

Sorry- the caption did not come through. New Zealand is proposing legislation that would band sale of tobacco and tobacco products to anyone born after 2004.

Formula One has announced an agreement to stage a race in Miami from next season. A Miami Grand Prix has been in the pipeline for a number of years following the acquisition of the sport by an American conglomerate, Liberty Media, in 2017.

After a series of setbacks, a 10-year deal to race at the Hard Rock Stadium – home to the Miami Dolphins NFL team – was confirmed as teams prepared for Sunday’s Emilia Romagna GP.

that's dumb. Laws don't stop ****. They need to take a look at the long history of prohibition of....literally any substance that has been banned....and see where that leads.

I tend to agree. There is plenty that gov't can do without banning something. Education is usually the best idea.

I have no problems if someone wants to do drugs. As long as they're not harming anyone around them and they contribute to offset the health costs, like smokers do with tobacco tax.
