He has six kickoffs one was the onside kick so that really throws the stat off. Take out the onside kick and its 60 yards

Palardy's would have been higher too, if he didn't keep kicking some of them out of bounds.

I'll check again. I have him with 7 for 336. Take off one of 10yds for the onside kick and I get 54.5 yds the same as Palardy. So we upgraded from a 25 yr old to a 32 yr old.

No I really think that if we had a first rate o line the run game and the pass game would be vastly improved and the kicking game would be perhaps somewhat less of an issue.

Sandra is nothing more than a stop gap option. His best years are clearly behind him, at this rate I'm just hoping we sign Burke Dales for some amusement.

I took out the onside kicks for Palardy its 55.2 when you add the penalty yardage for the kicks out of bounds it brings it down to 53.2.

If we're on the opponents 38, and it's 3rd and 2, and attempting a field goal MIGHT be the THIRD best option, it's time to replace the kicker, regardless of how bad every other part of our team is.

Consider what the coaches are seeing in practice as well

I thought I read (somewhere but can't find it now) that the Bombers liked Sandro's height on his kick offs vs Palardy's low driving kicks.  It gives the guys more time to get downfield. 

Perhaps he would benefit from some specialist coaching, he is after all only 25. The problem is ST coaches are not actually kicking coaches. Unlike hockey where goaltender coaches are also sound fundamental teachers.

I am just concerned that it is difficult to find a nip kicker. The transition from CIS to the CFL seems dramatic. I am not aware of any nips in the NCAA system right now. Hopefully there is.

Why is everyone treating improving the kicking game and improving the receivers and o-line as if they are mutually exclusive?

Serious question: why? Kyle Walters said it best when he said any time you can get a little better, you take that opportunity. Eventually those incremental improvements add up.

I stand corrected. Palardy's leg strength is not an issue at all, based on one 48 yard field goal and the fact that no other CFL kicker has happened to hit a 50+ yarder this season. He also hit a 51 yarder in 2010, so we should definitely stand pat.

Craig Dickenson is a kicking coach.  Palardy has not improved his leg strength or kickoff placement in 4 seasons.  Two head coaches have not had confidence in his ability to hit kicks over 40 yards.  He's a below average kicker.  There are enough below average and NI prospects around for everyone to attempt to develop.  Palardy will be available, Schiavone (accurate, not big leg), Alix (big leg, accuracy bad), Austin Anderson (good leg), Cameron (punter), Pavlopolous, Lirim Hajrullahu, Johnny Mark (good leg, accurate) is in the next draft, Tyler Crapigna (accurate, not big leg) in 2015 Hamilton has Brett Lauther (big leg) in the pipeline,

 

Deangelis might last a few more years.

There's more to kickoffs than simple gross distance.  Placement and hang time are also important.  The better way to measure the aptitude of the guy doing the kickoffs is the net distance (gross distance minus return distance).  And if you look at that, DeAngelis is at 42.8 and Palardy is at 36.6.

Faith or not in the defence. With the exception of some rare circumstances, if you think you can get 3 points with a fg you take it.

Especially when your punter has a knack for getting the single when trying to pin them deep.

The bigger concern is that the miss becomes a TD the other way.  One of the worst decisions Lapo made was sending Palardy out for a 48 yarder into the wind at Canad Inns at the end of a half vs the Argos in 2010.  Owens fielded the attempt at the 5 yard line and ran it back.  Punting from inside your own 45 is not a good situation for pinning anybody (unless there is a significant wind).  Punters don't practice shanking punts, they can't use their proper technique to hit that kick, and it has just as good of a chance of going into the endzone.

 

When you watch kickers in warmup or practice, most of them go out to 55-60 yards and hit kicks.  They probably couldn't do it in a game against the rush, but you can see them do it off a stand.  Palardy could barely get it to the posts from 45-50.

I really believe the season went the other way with that missed field goal. If that goes threw they win 4 or 5 more games that year.
