The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announce today the club has signed International offensive tackle Zebrie Sanders.

Sanders (6-6, 320, Florida State, December 4, 1989 in Columbia, South Carolina) was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the 5^th round of the 2012 NFL Draft, after spending from four seasons with the Florida State Seminoles. He was on the Bills injured list in 2012 and was released in training camp of 2013.

Sanders started 50 career games at Florida State, the second most in the history of the school. He was selected All-ACC Conference as a senior in 2011.

Peach is a GREAT depth guy, but if he's starting for you, your line isn't good enough. 17to85 and I were saying that we'd love to see a big breakout year for Jake Thomas this year. Fully expecting Vega to play more like the NFL-level talent that he is, in 2015, and will chalk 2014 up to playing injured/

But we were fully in agreement that it is purely wishful thinking. 

I honestly think Peach is the better DE. I believe he could put up double digit sacks in Richie Hall's system.

Peach is the epitome of average.  It's unlikely he'll get more sacks in a system that is going to rush 3 and 4 the majority of the time compared to one that rushed up to 7 often.

In a year where the defence would be considered below average, and the D-Line in that particular style of defence, considered to be below average, wouldn't that make Peach's above average performance (46 tackles - right in there with the league leaders at that position) and 7 sacks (the Bombers sack leader) to be deemed worthy of an above average rating...for last year?

Peach is a guy who is good enough to play but never going to be a star and if you think he's your star player your DL sucks. If he was the guy coming off the bench then great, but as the best DE on the team, no thanks. 

Peach was solid.. years ago. Now he's an excellent depth guy and I agree that if he is starting or is our Dline "stud" then we have Walters pegged all wrong at American scouting.

Is not effective when asked to block in space…at times can appear to be lost about who to block and where…is a more comfortable blocker when asked to block the guy in front of him…doesn’t use his punch as efficiently as we would like and has at times over extended himself trying to land it…he can get popped out of his stance by a good bull rush and struggles to re-anchor…will struggle to hold the edge v the elite speed rushers who can explode off their first step…could have been flagged for a few more holding penalties from the tape we saw…He’s a good athlete but too many questions exist about how he will handle elite speed rushers to make us trust him as a definite LT.

Sure, but what relevance does that have to the defense that will be played this season and how Peach fits?  Etcheverry's system causes defensive linemen, particularly ends, to pile up stats as he has LB's and DB's actively attacking the line of scrimmage taking blockers and gaps, giving the DL many more opportunities to make big plays.  Think Stevie Baggs in Regina, an average CFL DE who basically did nothing special in the league apart from the season he played in that system.

Sure, but what relevance does that have to the defense that will be played this season and how Peach fits?  

 

 

None, but the same goes for any player who can be 'deemed' replaceable.

The same would apply for Vega, although if he did suffer from 'turf toe', how much allowance does he get?

I would love it if we cold get a pear of DEs that would make us forget the two we have now. 

My point was, Peach had a solid year, and he should get credit for that. That is all that it would buy him, or any 'solid' performance from any player going forward.

We are, hopefully, always looking for better players.

Looks like Zebrie Sanders was just following instructions on that play.  Apparently the strategy of remaining in your stance is not that unusual in College ball when the D jumps off side.  Unfortunately his line-mates failed him.

So thats what its all about... great if you know you are going to get a call on the play.so in the original clip Sanders is the only one who stays still....and I guess we'll never know if there was a flag for offside, but it doesn't make sense to me why you would remain in your stance. Is there some rule/reason in college ball that says this is the action plan?

 

 

The only problem with this discipline is it can get your QB killed if the play isn't whistled dead... I guess that's more on the refs though

He remained in his stance because that's what the coaches at FSU taught in their system, but he clearly took it a little too literal In this particular play.  

 

There was no flag thrown for offside on this play.
