The TV Thread

Second season of Orange is the New Black launched today.

Anyone else into this?

I have to admit to being a bit of a TV/movie-phile.  I generally buy Blu-Rays when there's a movie I want to see rather than just watching it on PPV or In-demand (I like to collect).

Premium TV has really been leading a creative resurgence in recent years, probably dating back to The Sopranos.  Its nice that Netflix has become a legitimate competitor for HBO (which puts out some really great shows like Sopranos, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood etc).

House of Cards was tremendous.

While cable channels like AMC are getting in on the act, I annoys me a bit.  The Walking Dead would be so much better on Netflix or HBO where they could truly appeal to adults (HBO passed on The Walking Dead when Thomas Jane was attached).

As for Orange, it took me a few episodes to get into last season but Im looking forward to banging out a few episodes tonight.

As an aside, for you Trekies, it was recently the 20th anniversary of the finale of TNG, one of the best Series' Finales in TV history.

New Evil dead series starts in 3 weeks!

Has anyone watched Blind Spot yet?  Haven't checked it out yet but I plan to.

Flash, Arrow, Shield and Gotham are my comic book favs.  Big Bang, Scorpion, Modern Family, Brooklyn Nine Nine and Once Upon A Time are our others.  We don't get to watch everything every week, but we just watch them when we can.

Jessica Jones is going to be on Netflix in November (this is the next part of Marvel's Netflix shows continuing from Daredevil).  Not sure what powers other then super strength they're giving her.

Also, not sure if I mentioned it (I think I did on the last page), but the 4400 is pretty good as well on Netflix.

Scorpion looked interesting but since its produced by Bob Orci (and Alex Kurtzman), I knew it would eventually disappoint.  Orci is one of the worst hacks in Hollywood and a jerkoff to fans as well.  Huge undeserved ego.

Watched the first two seasons of Once Upon a Time but I broke under the weight of the mythology.  The gf still watches it every week though.  Gave Brooklyn a shot last year and it was atrocious.  Just not funny at all in my humble opinion.  Caught a few minutes of it last week (or the week before) and it hadnt improved...lol

I watched Daredevil and will probably watch the Marvel Netflix shows but Im not into the DC ones.  They seem awfully hokey and they dont matter within the continuity of the films so it just doesnt seem worth it to me.

Flash and Arrow are awesome, and they're adding a third show, Legends of Tomorrow.  All three shows are part of the same universe.  So far Flash has yet to disappoint.  Some people didn't like the last season of Arrow, but I enjoyed all 3.

Oh, and I'm liking Supergirl too.  But I've only see the pilot.

And I watch Star Wars Rebels with the kids.  :D

The girl and I watch Gotham every week and I enjoy it but it really seems like teh nerds hate it for whatever reason...

Haven`t seen it mentioned in this thread, but I love Shameless. William H Macey is awesome in this series

Damn you walking dead!! you went all game of thrones on our ass tonight. lol

There are reports we might not have seen what we think we saw.

to which show TWD or game of thrones? lol I know what i saw on both shows and watched the talking dead after (watched last week for the first time with Kevin smith and Paul Bettny as guests and was a pretty funny watch) and i know the host tonight said something along the lines of hoping to undo what was done, but i cant see any explaination that would make sense on reversing anything.

omg nvm, i just rewatched it, without reading those reports i know what they'll do/explain

On set rumors were he said goodbye to the other actors after filming so maybe he's done. Who knows. I didn't like it to be honest so hopefully it was a ruse and he shows up later.

well watched supergirl. lost interest within opening 5 minutes when her monolog flat out says superman is already a known entity in the world then has an argument with her coworker that aliens dont exist.  still watched it tho cuz i missed the first 30 minutes of gotham

I enjoyed Supergirl.  I liked who they chose to be her parents.  The only thing I didn't like was that they made Jimmy, "James" instead.  But I guess if you grow up you don't want to be called Jimmy anymore so I can see that.  Otherwise I liked the whole show.

ill say the idea Kara Zor-EL brought along with her the kryptonian max prison by accident from the phantom zone was a decent way to allow for a wide variety of interesting alien villans was a smart move, but yeah it was hard to get that far into the show at first for me with the dialog and over zealous acting, ill give it another crack next week but not holding my breathe but thats just me.

** jimmy olsons never EVER been black either, not trying to be racist but her coworker was more jimmy then jimmy

Looks like the have Zoo on Netflix now.  I have to say, is started ok, but then just took a turn for the worst.  I'm 4 or 5 episodes in and all I have to say is...bats in Antarctica.  Really?!?!  I mean, you do know bats hate cold weather and would die before a human being in a parka would right?

Ash Vs Evil Dead first episode was so damn good,   hilarious and lots of action!   Definitely a must watch for the Bruce Campbell fans here!

i totally forgot about ash vs the evil dead and cant find it on xbmc anyone know where i can find yesterdays episode?

Wait nvm found it and watched it. Hell ya good stuff, next episode nov 7

It was on 1channel by midnight last night... Should be on Genesis also

i found it on a random streaming site something like projectx or something like that, still couldnt find it on the tv lists of 1channel or genesis, but luckily got that feed, i get too distracted searching things on xbmc, i started watching american horror story just cuz i like the cover work of the seasons lol

It's definitely in genesis, saw it on there this morning.

I've been watching The Last Kingdom on Kodi. It's essentially Vikings but I like it better (at least so far). It's a new show from the BBC, so if you're into that kind of show, I'd recommend it.

Another upcoming reboot:

According to Deadline, Fox has given a pilot production commitment to "The Greatest American Hero," a single-camera comedy inspired by Steven J. Cannell’s 80's cult classic. Its written by "Dope" screenwriter/director Rick Famuyiwa,  and will be produced by Phil Lord & Chris Miller–  the directing duo behind the "LEGO Movie."

The original sci-fi dramedy series, created by producer Stephen J. Cannell, premiered as a two-hour pilot movie on ABC in 1981. The series featured William Katt as teacher Ralph Hinkley, Robert Culp as FBI agent Bill Maxwell, and Connie Sellecca as lawyer Pam Davidson.

The series chronicles Ralph's adventures after a group of aliens gives him a red suit that grants him superhuman abilities. Unfortunately for Ralph, who hates wearing the suit, he immediately loses its instruction booklet, and thus has to learn how to use its powers by trial and error, often with comical results.

The new sereis is more like a reboot as the premise is still the same, which the site describes:

Greatest American Hero is the story of what happens when great power is not met with great responsibility. An ordinary man, completely content with being average, wakes up with a superpower suit he never asked for and has to deal with the complications it brings his life.

****I remember watching this with my parents but only vaguly as I was quite young.  One thing is for certain, they must keep the intro song which some of you even younger peeps will remember as being spoofed on Seinfeld when George used it for his answering machine message.
