Read the WFP this morning about Covid hitting the NFL you have to wonder if it's worth playing at all.

NFL tv contract pays for all the contracts and pretty much all the operating expenses of all teams fans in the stands, concessions  and merch is all gravy

It comes down to whether or not the players can live within a bubble. It doesn't have to be the same as the summer bubble but one that keeps contacts way down. I'm sure that these players will be able to buy their way up the vaccine list outside of Canada.

Sounds like the NHL will try to start in mid January and have either a 52 or 56 game schedule, border will probably still be closed so it looks like the floated idea of a Canadian division will apply, now to figure out how to get the players here, length of quarantine, and training camp, but before they can do all of that they have to find out if the Government will let them play at Bell MTS

This gov't will let them play.

Mid-January for camp and pre-season. First/second week of Feb to start playing real games?

Starting in January lets the Juniors teams have the spotlight over the holidays and maybe teams will release players they may not of wanted to (Lafreniere)

Starting in mid-January has nothing to do with juniors. They don't even have a plan or agreement yet. Mid-January is the earliest they could get this going. They don't care about juniors in the least.

I think it's based on the previous tournament's final rankings: https://www.iihf.com/en/events/2021/wm20/news/17373/groups-for-world-juniors-known

Quote

Groups 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship

Group A Group B
(in Edmonton) (in Red Deer)

Canada (1) Russia (2)
Finland (4) Sweden (3)
Switzerland (5) USA (6)
Slovakia (8) Czech Republic (7)
Germany (9) Austria (10)

That's too bad, really. I understand why they did it but a better solution must be out there.

So, Canada could walk through the round robin and then be forced to play the US, Russia or Sweden in the first round of the playoffs? Geez, I can't seem to remember any of the seeding stuff from Juniors.
