What's capacity there? About 18,000?

Imagine if Polo Park were still there, squeezed into that space? An old school pony track in the middle of the city? I think that would be cool with a casino attached. Maybe cool isn't the word but neat?

But definitely a waste of prime real estate.

I guess Assiniboia Downs replaced Polo Park? Can you imagine how far out of town Headingley would have been in 1957?

Cool picture. Unfortunately it has been mislabled. The team wearing the Bison jerseys is the Winnipeg Victorias. The Winnipegs played the Victorias 3 times in 1935. Rebholz scored his rushing TD early in the 3rd quarter of the game played on October 5, 1935.

Fullback Lorne "Boom Boom" played for the Bombers from 1951-55. He won the Western Interprovincial Football Unions Rookie Of The Year Award after he rushed for 491 yards in 1952 (he played only 1 game for the Bombers in 1951), The Winnipeg native's best season was in 1953 when he rushed for 561 yards. He finished his 5 season playing career with 1,671 yards rushing. An all around great athlete, he also starred as a junior hockey player & had a tryout in the National League with the Washington Senators.  He was an avid curler & played in the 1962 Manitoba Consols as a lead with Lyle Henry's Strathcona CC rink. He later skipped his own curling team to an 8 ender in the Men's League at the same curling club.

It literally never occurred to me until this very moment that polo park was named after... an actual park for playing polo... very cool...

Honestly I have no idea if polo was ever actually played there, it was better known as the horse racing venue that preceded Assiniboia Downs and operated from 1925-1956.

It could also be named for a popular short-sleeved knit shirt.

My concern is for the receiver that has to catch that Hindenburg he's going to throw.  Oh the humanity!

He really could throw a football through a car wash & it wouldn't get wet because the ball was bigger than the car wash, itself & destroying it.
