CFL Combine

So can MBB get journalist accreditation for the combine... would be good to see first hand updates, etc

And no, I am not suggesting that we pay anyone to go... I remember how that worked out the last time it came up...

Can't someone go there and say they are Paul Friesen?  He's impersonating a journalist anyway....

Chapman and Petermann at receiver.  Onyeka (the DB not the DL).  Jackson Bennett as a safety/WIL/SAM.  I think Brett Wade DT out of Calgary could play some snaps, rest of the DL pretty meh.  Maybe She

Atlee Simon looks so weird running the 40, like he's running half speed.  Runs real upright with and without the ball.

Real good group of DB's in this draft...some will likely end up as LB's, but real athletic.

Receiver/DB 1 on 1's will be real good in this one.

I watched the OL guys do the 3-cone and shuttle up-close, and Sheply looked kinda 'small' standing around next to most of the others. Had to go back and double-check his weight, and it turned out he was right up there with the other guys at 305. He's definitely leaner and more muscular though, and his testing numbers compared to everyone but Korte show that.

Guys I'm watching closely today in 1 on 1's:

Jackson Bennett DB Ottawa...guy is a freaking beast.  Seen him play enough to know he's going to play in the CFL, just trying to figure out his ceiling.

Dagogo Maxwell DB UBC...physical testing amazing, always has been, on-field hasn't matched.

Godfrey Onyeka DB Laurier...WIL body, moves like a DB.

Bo Banner DE Central Washington...in a class by himself among DE's in this combine physically.  Want to see how he matches up to the OL here.

Micah Teitz LB Calgary...real impressed with his testing, overshadowed in Calgary over the years.

The receivers vs DB's in general is going to be great.  There's not a lot of separation in that group in testing.

Bo banner is kinda smaller snd weaker than i thought... and DE Onyeka is pretty slow. I was disapointed in both for different reasons

Good opportunity to see the aggression/nastiness of football lineplay.

Banner and Wade the only DL even getting off the line in the interior drill.  McGlaun has a bit of push and motor but he's fat.

Shepley and Korte looking best of OL.

Korte has a bit of piss and vinegar about him.

Wade is dominating every rep.  Banner has showed some nice speed rush moves, but keep in mind most of these OL will not play in real CFL games.

Banner can beat all these OL around the edge.  Need to see some moves.

Coaches calling up guys for reps now...all Banner, Wade, Breton vs Korte, Shepley and Sceviour.

From the clips, Banner's biggest asset was his speed. I don't recall seeing him power past any O-linemen.

We prefer gravitationally challenged.

A few of the H-back types doing well in blocking, Tanner Green and David Mackie.

Atlee Simon getting killed.

Id like to see the amount benched scale with position/weight. Just doesnt make sense to me having a 200 lbs wr who will face 200 lbs or less dbs, and 220 ish sams/Ss bench the same as a linemen. Kinda of a peeve of mine.

havent watched any drills or tests yet, looks like a few guys put up really good jump numbers though.  Its great to see the over all athleticism at skill positions moving up.

Any one at the event? how is the atmosphere / presentation?

Might just be me, or a fondness of those guys/position but it seems like the CIS really churns out those big body Hback type guys.

Both QB's really inaccurate.  Picton throwing everything 500mph.

Should get Buck and some of the CFL QB's hanging around to throw some balls so the RB's and receivers have a shot to show their stuff.

Marquee matchup DB's vs receivers coming up.

Kwemo and Teitz dominating the kick cover drill.

Alex Taylor getting some extra call outs from the coaches for reps.

Chapman and Simonise putting a lot of balls on the turf.  Petermann looks special, as does Onyeka, the DB.   Had a vision of the Bombers snagging Onyeka and pairing him with Loffler as kind of combo WIL's/Safety.  I think Hall had that vision too based on his mug after Onyeka's 2nd rep in the ones on ones.

Onyeka killing everyone but Chapman.

Bennett just beat Chapman to an out...man if we could get one of Onyeka or Bennett we'd be laughing.
