1) That's the older rover as you can see the tracks

2) The sound you hear was created using their best guess using a seismometer and sped up.

God damn it... i got so excited! I feel so deflated now.... yeah I noticed the tracks before... but I was too excited...

this lecture is one of my favourites. water in the solar system.

 

The reality is that, because of very different conditions, life on other worlds is likely to be so different to us that we may not even recognize it as such. Intelligent life needs to have the ability to be able to construct artifacts and manipulate their environment to progress. That implies ability to move, communicate, use tools and so forth. Whether or not this would mean a bi-pedal form is unknown.
