  1. You could be right - but at 400 grand plus a year I don't think that's going to happen. The management has 'hitched' their wagon to the Willy train, so I can't see them just parking him on the bench. I can see Willy getting hurt again though. Not that I want to see that - don't like it when any player gets hurt.
  2. Who's that? A google search doesn't even bring him up? Is that he answer - looking for a replacement for Bennett on the PR?
  3. Well, Willy definitely looked outmatched last night, but then again Mike Reilly is one of the best QB's in the league. I think, right now, Harris in Ottawa is the most 'talented' QB but Reilly has that 'it' factor - he'll win 'it' at any cost. Harris hasn't been in that position yet but I think he can do it too. Willy...... I was really hoping he'd be able to drive that ball downfield in the last minute. Not necessarily scoring a TD but was very disappointed he struggled as much as he did against a porous Edmonton defense who couldn't do anything against Harris or Durant (well, until the Dline stopped a 3rd a short but that was Durants fault as much as it was Edmonton's line as he didn't extend the ball like he should have). I like the idea of having Burris - his time is most definitely done in Ottawa. I can't see any circumstance other than injury that they bring Burris back as a starter. However, who do the bombers have the REDBLACK's would want. Agree with Root where, though the salary matches, there's no reason to swap Burris for Willy. In fact, I'd rather keep Burris in case Harris does go down. At least you know you still have a chance (a very good chance) to win with Burris in there, vs. Willy. I don't know, another loss or two and you gotta think the Willy experiment is over. Lets see what Dominic Davis can do. Or Bennett. Leave Nichols as the backup and have him come in when one or the other is struggling. If the Bombers go 1 - 5 or 1 - 6 (very real possibility) the season is done anyway. On the flip side, despite the yardage racked up the Eskimos, the defense played very well. Limiting any team to 20 points when you give up 500+ yards total offense is quit the accomplishment. Though Edmonton did shoot themselves in the foot a lot with bad penalties. Oh, one more thing, Ripper makes a great point, I brought it up a few weeks back. Every team, every game, I see a receiver make a play for his QB. He will catch a ball he has no business catching. He will 'make a play'. I see the Eskie receivers do it many times a game actually, it's part of what makes Reilly so good. Other than that no look catch by Smith last week in Ottawa (which really was a fluke) I don't see the bomber receivers making any big catches for Willy. Three times over the past few weeks he threw a long ball that I though was catcheable if it was Bowman, Walker, or Green (S.J.) he was throwing to. But it wasn't, and the bomber receiver(s) did not make the necessary adjustments to go after the ball, they just watched it sail away or fall short. Disappointing to say the least.
  4. Should be a good game - Edmonton's defense is definitely a shambles right now as they try to learn Benevides' system (not to mention three key players out - Ojo (injured ruptured Achilles), Grimes (best cover guy in the CFL - gone to NFL), and linebacker Dexter McCoi)l. You can't replace guys like that and the Eskimos haven't. Willy does need a big game here - this might be the 'softest' defense he plays this year. He'll need it too because despite their defensive woes, though off to slow starts the Edmonton offense once they get going are not going be to stopped very easily. If bombers are to win - they will need to do something they haven't done in long time - score more than 30 points. This is the D they can do it against.
  5. Well this game coming up is very interesting indeed. As already posted here a couple of times, the Esks defense - especially in the secondary, are, quite frankly, lost. They don't have a clue . You probably didn't pick it up on TV, but those bombs Durant were throwing and completing, the receivers weren't even being covered. Most were ducks floating up there so by the time they came down there were an Eskie or two 'in the vicinity' but trust me it wasn't even close. I'm thinking Drew Willy could have a HUGE game this week. Bombers have a real practice week, (that's the other thing - for those that are looking at the negative in the bombers win - all the 'Hamilton did this, missed, that, etc etc are all moot when you factor in the Bombers only had TWO practices to prepare - Bombers deserve FULL credit for that win no 'ifs' 'ands' or 'buts') and if Willy can get his timing down I think he can hit the 400 yard mark. The real question, as also mentioned already, is how up to the task the Defense is against Reilly? Last year the bombers had the Esks but Harjuliaohu pooched makeable field goals and then Sean Whyte calmly kicked a what, 52 yarder, to win it (that was LH's straw that broke his back in Wpg). I'm thinking the Bombers win this one though in the end. I think the Defense is getting better each week (Edmonton's isn't - though they made that 3rd down stand). In fact I don't think the game will be that close - I figure the Bombers by 15 or so, and Drew Willy has his best game (to date) in a Bomber uniform!
  6. Just saw on TSN a couple of disturbing things for the Bombers: 1 - they've only had two practices this week - is that enough for our offense to get set for the Hamilton Blitz? 2 - The bombers have gone 35 straight games scoring less than 30 points in a game. I couldn't believe that one. Well, anyway, that's disturbing. I wonder if I'll make to halftime before I go outside and enjoy they weather?
  7. I'd buy you an offensive lineman (but not a real offensive lineman that's cruel)
  8. Yep you're right - no doubt we're / I mean the Wpg is stuck with him. That's why I jumped ship - sort of. I still want the bombers to do well, but to keep my sanity and to still be a CFL fan I had to start cheering for another team so may as well be the team I have season tickets to. It was a real poopshow here in Edmonton for a few years to - especially in the Danny Maciocia era. He literally fluked a Grey Cup for the Eskimos then proceeded to singlehandedly wreck the franchise. Thing is, it's only an 8 (now 9) team league. Even with the Eskimos's all messed up, it didn't take them long to bounce back. Yes they went through a few coaches in Hall, Reed, then Jones and now Maas, but at least they won games. Though the fans are staying away in droves now. I credit the long standing WBB fans who keep going to the debacle in Wpg year after year after year. Luckily that new stadium was built though as if it wasn't I have a feeling there'd be telethons trying to keep them afloat. A lot of BIG changes were made in the off season, but QB and HC has remained the same. It's still very early though. Willy did look better (though the stats did not bear that out) in the first three quarters against Calgary then he did against Montreal. By better, I mean he looked more sure of himself in the pocket and looked more confident. Unfortunately next stop is in Hamilton where, though they have a backup QB playing who did not look good at all in their last game, has been for the most part a very bad place for the Bombers to play in. Last year they were smoked 38 to 8 (and 52 to 26 at home). If the bombers get blown out by a backup in Hamilton - well, lets hope that doesn't happen
  9. To tough to call yet - I'd say the bombers are committed to Willy - so a coaching change may be in order first. I like the Lulay thought - if Jonathan Jennings keep trending up - maybe that would work (Lulay for Willy straight up - B.C. keeps it's QB depth and the Bombers get a legit #1 starter who's actually won a Grey Cup). Could work.
  10. See that catch - bomber receivers don't make that play. That's part of the problem- Willy gets no help
  11. I would like to see one of the bomber receivers make a big play to help get Willy going. Every other team has a receiver that can do that. Anyone know where Denmark went after the 'riders dumped him? Maybe he would re-sign with the bombers
  12. I don't think Willy is playing that bad - he's a lot better that what I saw of him last week that's for sure. But if Calgary wakes up this could be a blowout
  13. Agreed - they have to show they are ready to compete. Already watched one really bad game tonight- that's my quota. I just want to see a good game
  14. B.C. is looking great to me.
  15. Yes a lot hinges on how the play tonight - not if they win or not. Though a win would be nice the 'riders are in Edmonton next Friday so I can't see them winning that one (Edm has the bye this week).
  16. Regardless of a bomber win or loss - Willy has to play well. He didn't start very well against Mtrl and it affected him as the game wore on. He missed all his long throws and the loss of Dressler really put a crimp in the game plan.
  17. Bombers can't buy a break. Yeah, it's not his first and the bombers do need to be careful with him. Hopefully he's 100% soon, was looking forward to seeing him and Smith and what they could do together.
  18. Well right now the bombers are committed to Drew Willy thanks to that huge contract they signed him to. They can't just 'replace him'. They need to work with him. I still maintain that Dressler going down early really hurt them. In the first 8 minutes (prior to the lightening delay which was just after Dressler's injury) they had two quick passes to Dress and one to Smith. It was pretty obvious to me that they were setting something up with that but once Dress went down AND they had a long break they had time to adjust what they were going to go do but it obviously didn't work. I'm not a Willy fan - never was. Other than a few starts in Sk he never really did anything that made me go 'wow, he's the next CFL star'. But I'm also not a pro football scout. I only saw Willy play once, and in that game here in Commonwealth he did have open receivers - he just wasn't spotting them. My theory was proven after he got hurt late in the second quarter when Brohm came in and had as many passing yards in one series as Willy had in his time on the field. I still maintain he can't read a defense. He just locks in his primary target and that's why he takes so many hits. Once in a while if they have a check down to a back who's within 10 yards of Willy he'll use that. But he's got to learn to go to his second and third reads in a hurry. All the bonafide #1 QB's can do that - even Kevin Glenn. He also has to learn to look of safeties, he doesn't do that well either. 29 years old - yep. This is it, it's Willy's year. If he can't do it, release him outright at the end of the year (his contract makes him untradeable if he continues to struggle). Maybe the bombers can get Franklin off the Eskimos before the 'Riders do. We'll see.
  19. Would have been nice if they had but unfortunately I still maintain you have to take care of yourself. There's a reason teams consistently make the playoffs and challenge (or win) the Grey Cup. Even here in Edmonton - yes, Reilly came from B.C. - but that's it. The rest have all been scouted and developed by the Eskimos'. WPg's Achilles heel for decades has been the complete inability to scout, sign, and develop their own Qb. McManus was the last one. Until they do, as I've said many times (It's why I was in Marve's corner) I don't think they'll ever win consistently. In a small league sure, every once in a while they'll catch lightening in a bottle and go to a maybe win a G.C. But then they'll fall on their faces again. But it's one game - new offensive philosophy, and Dressler went down early. I wouldn't panic yet - but yeah that's a tough schedule - 0 - 6 = LaPo being HC before Labour Day
