Starting 3 Canadian receivers next season?
Goalie replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Yeah Goodrich was looking pretty good in camp too until he got hurt and sent back to the rifles. Had a dominating year. Could be a pretty good player for us down the road.. -
Kyle Walters to address the media at 11AM
Goalie replied to holoman's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Yup Wicek was the guy who asked all of the pretty dumb questions. Asked if O'sheas job is safe, Dumb. Asked if they were happy taking Goossen, Seriously what a couple of really dumb questions. And then asking him to grade himself.. Our media are a bunch of fools for the most part. Wicek though, my god. What a couple of dumb dumb questions. -
Which Bomber Free Agents will seek greener grass?
Goalie replied to Fatty Liver's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Marve on twitter was saying he will be back next season. So he's signed for another year at least. -
Agree with all except January, Really Glenn January? That's brutal.

Section S and the beer snake returns!
Goalie replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Just cuz a beer snake is considered juvenile behavior to some, doesn't mean it is to others. What's that quote, it's from a song... how does it a go? "Now a days no one remembers when they were young and stupid" That's the one. I do remember tho when i was young and stupid and back in my younger days, i would have thoroughly enjoyed what they are doing right now. Way i see it? I don't plan on getting tickets in that section so really... why should i actually care or be bothered about something that has zero effect on me. I mean really, unless this directly effects you and you plan on sitting in that section, who honestly cares. But guess what, by announcing it, if you don't like it, now you know to not buy tickets in those sections. -
Section S and the beer snake returns!
Goalie replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Don't really care, sat is Section S a few times in my younger days at the old stadium and while it was fun, seemed to distract from the game a bit. I'm at the point where i'd rather watch the game and not be distracted by all the craziness around me. It is what it is. Good on them though for realizing there is a segment of fans who do go to the games to get drunk and stand the whole time and all that stuff, it's cool, not for me anymore but... i think it's cool that they are bringing it back. As far as the beer snake is concerned, Well whatever really, if it means people will have more fun and actually stay in their seats instead of congregating on the concourse, so be it. -
Starting 3 Canadian receivers next season?
Goalie replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Perhaps what it might tell you is this is the end of Romby and Kelly in blue bomber colors. -
MB can go. He gets QB's killed, he did in Montreal with AC and he did it here too. Probably be best to turf him. Gotta see if any upgrades are available first tho. As for ETCH, I'm on the fence but i'd suspect if ETCH goes, all the D coaches would probably have to go too.

Starting 3 Canadian receivers next season?
Goalie replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Guess they are just discussing options right now and if the depth is there, maybe this option isn't that bad at all. Not like our american receivers were getting that open this year so i mean, if you can get similar production from your Canadians, why not. Right now i think is a good time to be discussing this, that's all they are doing, keeping an open mind. Exploring some options. -
Then we release him.

Thank you other GM on this site. What an odd thing to say tho. Whether the GMs on this site like it or not? Your whole post is pretty much you pretending to be a GM also. Don't need to add like things like that to your post when you yourself are one of these "GMs" you are speaking of. The real question with Bucknor is what kind of leverage does he have? Would he start on another team? I'm not sure another team would start him, They might but i can't really think of one off the top of my head who would actually give him starters money right now. Does he deserve to be paid? sure he does, but... how much? who really knows. He's not the best field corner in the league, he's probably not the worst tho. Reality is he plays a position that easily could be played by an International for a lot less money. The only thing Bucknor has going for him is he is canadian so he is a ratio changer. If Matt Bucknor wasn't Canadian, what would his value actually be? You could get a guy on a rookie contract to play field corner. He's Canadian tho so obviously being Canadian and a starter means he will get paid. I don't think they will have to pay him like he's one of the best in the league tho. 100,000 - 120,000 is probably fair value. That's not really having to break the bank for the guy tho.

I dunno if it's necessary to trade up, like others have said, it's a deep draft but what i think would be smart is looking to get another pick in the first or 2nd round also. I'm not sure what we have to offer to get a pick say in the 2nd round, but... i'd look at it. Pretty strong draft for oline, sure some have NFL aspirations but i think if we could move a guy (not sure who) to get another 2nd rd pick.. It might work out for us pretty well. Reality is, we could take Demski if available at 2 or 2 and then in the 2nd round grab a couple of oline. Deep draft, Oline don't always work out it seems so why not take BPA regardless of position in round 1 and try to grab an oline or 2 in the 2nd round.
-
Ottawa seems to be lacking Canadian depth and receivers big time, not sure that they don't take Demski actually.

Bucknor had a pretty sold season, He's a good player, would love to see an all american secondary tho, think that would be great but... worst case scenario, bucknor starts again and really with the way he played this year, that's really not that bad at all. I'd put him in the must sign category only because I feel he was actually one of our stronger national players this season and we seem to be lacking national players who can start. Sign him but... if we can upgrade some other spots, maybe go all american secondary and have bucknor as a backup and special teams player I guess the way i see it is, Is bucknor one of our worst national players? Nope, is he one of our best? based on this play this year, i'd say he is. Sign him.

Do you think Cheveldayoff is doing a good job?
Goalie replied to Atomic's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Jets are on a roll now, playing very good defensive hockey, buying in to the system maurice is implementing. Pretty solid to spectacular road trip really, 7 out of 8 points, should have been and easily could have been 8 out of 8. The lack of goal scoring is a concern but... what this little road trip shows is you can win tight games with good defensive play. I'm pretty confident that eventually the goal scoring will come, some of these guys seem pretty snake bitten right now...but still confident their time will come to break out and when they do, I suspect it might be quite huge actually. Hope it doesn't take away from their defensive game tho as that is what has been winning them games. What the Jets are doing right now is playing playoff hockey... Out hitting their opponents, blocking shots left right and center, winning that 1 goal game. If the scoring comes and eventually it will, this team might surprise some people. It seems to me in this day and ago, with twitter and all this social media crap that some people just like to talk crap to people and for some reason or another will be a tough guy online to them, anyone ever actually check out Kanes twitter? see some of the comments he gets? My guess is those people making those comments are also the ones making up the rumors about him too. Why? who really knows, I would assume jealousy is a factor and probably the main factor for sure. -
Playoff Prediction Thread - With Grey Cup Winner
Goalie replied to USABomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Will probably revise this after next week, cuz a few things could change but Calgary vs Montreal right now. -
If Campbell got fired, I'd seriously consider him as a candidate for DC here. Very good D in Calgary when he was there and very good Ottawa D too. I know Nelson might be the DC but Campbell has a pretty solid resume when he was the DC.
-
It's not just one game tho, it was a bunch, the offense went cold for a long time, i think some should go back and rewatch several of the games we played earlier in the year and then go back and watch games later in the year, The D is pretty much the same D, it's the offense that regressed pretty big time.

We win on Labour Day and the home game against Hamilton easily if he plays. I'm sure there are a few others where we were in second and long all game that he would have prevented. Or if we made the other teams running attack as useless as ours we could have won probably all our games this year. Calgary ran wild yesterday on us, but time of possesion in the first half was 16 minutes to 14 minutes for Calgary. I think you are making things to simple here, it's not about just the running game against us, it's about us turning the ball over at times, it's about play calling, it's about a lack of a run game so teams could send the house and beat our qb up cuz they knew we couldn't run. It's not as simple as just picking one aspect and saying that's the problem. It's a lot of issues.. Lost 6 or 7 by a touchdown or less and in most those games turned the ball over a heck of a lot of times, more than 1 or 2 times that's for sure. You don't think those turnovers played a bigger role? Yeah sask ran wild on us, so did a few teams but 6 or 7 games lost by a touchdown or less and turned the ball over a ton of times in those games? Don't think that played a little role at all? I'm not a huge fan of using stats because it doesn't really tell you the whole story but... it's been pretty proven that if you don't turn the ball over, you win. We don't turn the ball over in those games we lost by a touchdown or less and we more than likely win, even if the other team ran the ball down our throats. lol, of course I agree with you but too many times people just look at one aspect and say that's why we lost. Nobody can predict the future and doing one thing better won't always give you the results you expect. Butterfly affect is all I'm saying but some would have you believe that you can disregard other problems as not being substantial contributors to wins and losses and I call BS. Yeah, it's definitely not just one area. Penalties, Turnovers, Sacks, Rushing against... Red Zone production, Tackling at times. It all adds up for sure.

Here from the free press It was the first year with O’Shea as head coach, however, and the Bombers field boss was asked Sunday what lessons he took away from his rookie season as a head coach. "We’ve got a lot of work to do. And there’s lots to learn still. That’s an easy answer," O’Shea said. Asked where his team needs to get better, O’Shea didn’t mince words. "Every phase. We want to win championships, so saying we’re going to fix one thing here, one thing there -- it doesn’t work that way. "We have to get better across the board -- we can’t afford to take penalties, we can’t give up so many turnovers, we can’t give up that number of sacks, we can’t give up those rushing yards, we need to be more effective in the red zone. "It’s everything. We’re trying to improve every facet of the game. What I’ve said to the coaches so far is we’re going to spend this off-season inspecting everything." Asked to assess the performances of his offensive coordinator Marcel Bellefeuille and defensive coordinator Gary Etcheverry, O’Shea was upbeat. "They’ve worked extremely hard. They’ve put their players in positions to be successful. They’ve done a pretty good job." But O’Shea hedged when asked if the two men would be back for the 2015 season, noting he hasn’t even yet had his own performance review from GM Kyle Walters. "When I have that meeting with Kyle, then I’ll be able to go down the line and go from there." http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/football/bombers/OShea-knows-Bombers-job-under-review-281234101.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

O'shea has kind of a point tho, I mean you can run the ball all you want but if you are only kicking fg's or starting at your own 20 or 30.. then big deal.. Calgary ran for 214 yards? That sucks...but they only scored one touchdown all game.. All that running they did, lead to nothing really. Yeah they turned the ball over and that's why they lost... Which kind of proves Mr Dees point that turnovers are way more important than how many yards you gain on the ground.

Lost about 6 or 7 games by a touchdown or less... Surely playing Cotton in a few of those games makes a difference. Really the Difference between 10-8 or at worse 9-9 and 7-11 is probably a few of those games we lost by less than a touchdown and had absolutely zero threat of a run game at all.
-
none of them but i will watch the playoffs and in the grey cup game, I'll cheer for the team who hasn't won recently. However, if it's Edmonton vs Hamilton, I might not watch cuz those 2 teams along with the ALS are the teams i can't stand the most.

Marve looked ok again, Pretty average really but since he didn't get many reps this season and he is in his first year in the CFL, he does show potential to be pretty good. He has probably made a case to be the back-up next season, This year he was 3rd string. Brohm probably would have got the reps if he wasn't hurt but... Marve definitely made a case. His numbers are just average, really he's completed just 50 percent of his passes both games that he has been given extended playing time. For a first year guy? Not too bad at all. But maybe what it shows you is regardless who the QB has been, the offense has struggled to actually move the ball consistently IF they get away from the RUN, something they never had for basically week 2 to week 15 or whenever cotton started. Think if Willy had Cotton in there all year, you probably see them running the ball a bit more... Be nice to actually develop Marve properly, give him limited reps for a year or so more and then see what he can do, He's still learning the game.. and it's pretty obvious watching him that yes he shows potential but he still has a ways to go to be a legit starter. Willy is the guy next year... The back-up tho? Marve may have made a case in his limited reps that he can be that guy. Brohm is a free agent too. Marves numbers ain't that great.. struggled to move the ball too but i think part of that is on OC and part of that yesterday might have been the weather. Marve shows potential but he's not even close to being as good as Willy is. Give Marve some proper development tho and who knows what he can turn in to.
