  1. if this report is accurate, it undermines both Walters and O'Shea and goes a long way towards making Walters thing very hard about the U of Guelph job. If O'Shea chooses his own people, he is dues either praise or criticism for how things turn out. If he is being told who he should have, it emasculates him and absolves him of any responsibility. If he still has any pride left, he ought to resign, and this seems to explain why this team has been so screwed up for so long, just like when Bauer was here.

Maybe Wades not emasculating MOS but pushing him to grow a set in the way he operates re his coaching staff?
    So somehow this is better?
  2. If either of these clowns is back next year as anything other than stadium ushers, I will be taking the year off from following them. I went to a couple of games this year (they lost both games) and I will not stand witness to another season of debacles.

OK, but if they are back, and you don't take the year off, will you change your handle to backtracker?

Touche'- but stay tuned to see.
And if they are back and we suck again are you gonna step up and say crap these guys did suck? Maybe change your name to no indeed?Or instead of Mr Dee Mr Duped?
  3. I expect consequences for this debacle of a season. If I'm Wade Miller, I fire Danny McManus and lure a top notch scout away from another team. I, aslo, hire a Tom Higgins type of guy as a director of player personnel and hold Walters feet to the flame. Put him on notice that he better do better. I don't fire Walters or O'Shea but make sure I have people at the ready to take over.

If I'm Walters, I talk to O'Shea and demand the firing of MB and let him know his replacement must come with his approval and had better be a good one. I find a blue chipper scout and either add him on or replace McManus/Goveia. I let a lot of our pending non NI FA's walk and sign Andrew Harris and OL help. I sign Bilikudi and dump Hurl. I make every effort to re-sign Matt Nichols or another experienced backup.

If I'm O'Shea, I turf the entire offensive coaching staff. They suck. I get a top notch ST coordinator as well.as a QB coach for Willy and Nichols. Nichols, seemed to have trouble getting into a groove early in ball games and I think that was mostly mental on his part. A good QB coach may have been of great assistance. I, also, walk into Walters office and demand that he sign a gamebreaker on offence. We simply have no one that the opposing defence needs to fear. We need that type of player that changes how opposing defences would like to play against you, into how they have to play against you. We don't have that. We need it desperately. Andrew Harris immediately comes to mind. He keeps opposing defences on their heels.

This, of course, is just a preliminary list but it's where I'd start, I don't believe that firing Walters or O'Shea lends any credibility to our team at all and is something we should try to avoid. Not saying they don't deserve a good public rebuke or that the organization shouldn't put in a first class exit strategy in place for their future dismissal. However, I believe we should stay the course with improvements made of course. We simply cannot continue to be the organization that continues to hire and fire every second year. That could cost us far more then keeping these guys on. We must show stability for once in the past decade or we immediately revert back to being a joke again. We can avoid that. The problems of our current coaching and management are not insurmountable, they just need more of and a better supporting cast....much like the core group of players that we will keep.

Fantastic analysis! I would just add that you need to give your relatively inexperienced GM and head coach some leeway to make mistakes and correct them. In Walters' case, he needs to enhance/replace the scouting staff.

In O'Shea's case, he needs to replace his OC and maybe more of his offensive staff. I think part of the problem with O'Shea has been his deference to his more experienced coordinators, but now that he himself has gained more experience, he should be more confident to pull the trigger on needed changes. I really do think that it's tweaks that we need, not wholesale changes. If you bring in a capable OC (and a left guard), the offense scores more points and stays on the field longer, which makes it easier to play defense, and all of a sudden, you have a playoff team.

O'Shea has his flaws, for sure, but there's something to be said for the fact that his players seem very loyal to him, and has created a fair amount of loyalty to the club (see the long-term extensions signed by players this season). That said, I would only give this regime one more year. If they can't improve next year, then it's time to move on.

I think I have heard this 15 of the last 20 years:

"I would only give this regime one more year. If they can't improve next year, then it's time to move on."

Unfortunately this is true. You would think the way some people around here talk about MoS is this guy is a great coach just needs all the stars to align to reveal his genius.
  4. Burmistrov has been all over the ice handling his responsibilities. He was a good player before, but for Noel. It wouldn't surprise me for Burmi to keep trending upwards..

He has always had potential but has never been a good player in the NHL. Maybe being drafted so high has hurt him with expectations.
  5. The problem with your posts Iso, is that they are too logical.

Posts are to be based on how you feel about a player/coach/manager, and who you like, or don't like.

I would like to see someone to post a detailed list of the accomplishments of the head coach over two seasons.

He has coached the Bombers to a winning record over Montreal and players like all the hugs and kisses he gives them.
He is a wizard with film watching too.
  6. Wasn't Frolik getting 2nd line minutes with the club? Frolik maxed out at what 42 points on the 2nd line with us? Hardly a huge point getter IMO. Ehlers will more then likely surpass that in his rookie season making a fraction of the price.

As I said before.... Olli f'ning Jokinen had more points in a season then Frolik so does this mean we have to bring him back also and that it was a huge mistake for not over paying him?

You can put Frolik anywhere in the lineup including pp and pk. Makes his linemates better that's a quote from Maurice. Jokinen was the worst free agent we ever signed no comparison. We hopefully replace Frolik by committee Ehler's offence Burmi's defence.
  7. If they fire MB that will be a huge win in my books.

To be replaced with who? Three coordinators fired in 2 years. Who will come here? People that want to keep MOS because we can't attract quality HC's as they get fired yet want MB fired are just kidding themselves. No quality assistant coach will want to come here because all 3 coordinators hired by our brilliant HC will have been fired if Bellefeuille goes. So MB has to stay because no one better will want to be here. This is what happens when you hire crappy head coaches.

You have no idea if what you are saying is true or not. Coaches don't go anywhere expecting to have a permanent job. They always expect to get fired at some point. I'll make you a bet, if MB is still here like you say he will be, then I won't come here anymore...otherwise you have to go....a bet?
How about instead you bet will MoS be able to get a top notch OC to come here to this mess? They will look how MoS ties their hands with his personnel decisions and dresses 8 Lbs when we sadly lack Rec or oline help and go thnks but no thnks. Or dresses liram and a import kicker who can do all 3 jobs. We ain't getting any decent OC to come here while MoS is here period.
  8. He's not playing smart hockey at all. He's playing demoted to the moose hockey

Absurd. You're watching different games then the rest of us.
Nope I agree with Goalie no scoring threat from Burmi at all but is better defensively than I thought. Will shake out as fourth line guy tops. Petan has way more upside but Maurice is bringing him along slowly for now.
  9. Useless for sure but not sure firing him earlier would have made a huge difference. Same O I'm sure but different guy calling the plays doesn't change a flawed system

Yea but your now saying Hall should go too. When does the buck stop at the person responsible for hiring these assistants? I get it he's a good guy, great to his players but he ain't a good HC the record speaks for itself.
  10. Everyone over reacting after a loss but overall this is good news. Walters, MOS and Hall back is good. Tweak from there. New OC and a few weapons and we're a different team.

I'm going to call you out and say a large Bullshit!

Then I'll offer a challenge, explain why keeping Walters and MOS is a good idea.

Here's a question, and I realize it's a hypothetical but play along if you don't mind (Others as well if you feel so inclined).

Consider the wins we have now this season, and the amount of games we've lost in the final few minutes this year. Now assume we build a solid offensive line, Drew Willy plays 15-17 games (it's rare to play all 18 after all) and we have a new OC - What do you think our record is? Just curious.

Who the hell cares? The fact is if this was a GOOD team you wouldn't have to make excuses. Calgary, Toronto, Hamilton, Edmonton, and Ottawa have all had injuries and adversity and come out on top on a majority of their games. Winnipeg gets beat by one injury and the slightest whiff of adversity.

If Willy was healthy we win two more games, three tops. If we had a different OC? The same two games. What you are forgetting is that most of our losses were not by a point or two.

The point is moot. This isn't a good team or a close to good team playing below their abilities this is a bad team playing at the peak of their abilities.

Three of those teams have had the same QB for every game this season (Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa), and the other two have unquestionably the top two defences in the league. Sure all of them have injuries as well, but keep in mind some those teams you mentioned (home games against Calgary, Edmonton, and Ottawa immediately come to mind) very likely are not losses given the scenario I provided. The injuries they have (nevermind their respective offensive staffs) aren't in the realm of ours either currently.
Edmonton Tor BC Mont all qbs issues their gonna be in, we're not. Man the excuses for this regime never ends . For Fuxk sake Popp has changed coaches fired his OC and gone through 5 qbs and is still gonna be in the playoffs over us.
  11. Gotta wonder if our reputation as an organization who fires people way to quickly is playing a role here. People talk about hiring the right coach but.... why would that guy want to come here knowing that in 2 years or even less people will be calling for his head. As for scouting... Ken moll explained it well a while back... you can put a list together but it takes sometimes 2 years for those players to finally come up here. It takes time.... something they haven't really had. 2 years... next year we should see some better recruiting hopefully. Then again maybe Walters and the scouts did bring in some good players on O but MB never really gave them a chance. Tough to say. Fire MB and let's see what happens. You fire MB and there is no more excuses cuz... I'm not sure anyone could succeed or look great playing in this O. Fire MB and see what happens. Look at replacing hall with a more aggressive minded d coach....

Why would any one want to come here after 3 years of a mess that MoS is gonna leave us when he gets canned next year? Name me one good coach in the CFl that took 3 years to field a competitive team? Only in Winnipeg could we settle for this tripe.
  12. 7-11 last year if we are lucky 6-12 this year yea the anti MoS we just aren't patient enough, he just needs more time to find another good OC and special teams coach. Hopefully they fall in his lap cause he sure as hell can't pick em. People were calling Popp a circus well guess what circus is gonna make the playoffs over our clowns?

  13. I'd like to see the Bombers step up and make a big splash by giving Huff $1 million per season to be our HC and GM. Unfortunately our CEO and Board are way too cheap, and too stupid to understand that you need to spend money to make money. You put a winning product on the field and you'll average 31,000+ bums in the seats per game vs the 26-27k we probably averaged this year.

Then you could volunteer to be his offensive coordinator, cause they couldn't afford to pay one.
Yes they could. 3,000 extra tickets sold per game over a full season is an extra ~2 million dollars. Not very good at math, hey?
Once they put together a legitimate balance sheet that demonstrates an ability to operate the Football Club, IGF and service their debts we can start dreaming. They haven't done that since the stadium opened. I don't know how you budget for sellouts. Hiring Hufnagel isn't like flipping a switch.
I didn't budget for a sellout with Huff. I budgeted for 3000 more per game which would be an average of 30-31k per game. Realistic if you look at attendance during the 2011 Swaggerville season. If Huff could produce a consistent 10-12 win team, he'd more than pay for his salary at $1 million per season as GM and HC.
And if he wins 15 games over two seasons and you want to fire him? Can you, or are you too invested financially? Hufnagel's success isn't just him. He's got the best personnel guy in the recent history of the league with him, he's got Dickenson, Stubler etc. If you can't build that organization, what's the point of paying one person?
His rep would certainly attract top notch people to work with him. Wouldn't surprise me if a lot of his staff followed him. Might take a year or two, but he'd produce a winner.
So year two and we still have no winning team, no decent OC cuz we cant afford one, crappy talent from firing walters and replacing with no name scouts as we couldnt afford better.. And huff is on the hot seat.. And willy or our starter goes down for a long time..

You can say how awesome it could be but flipping the coin it could be just as much a disaster..

    Fun game I suppose.

Isn't what your describing what we are going through right now?
  14. Deflection...the new Con motto?

No doubt about it now, they have been rejected...big time.

Why start a narrative that isn't there? What deflection?

Ofcourse it's a rejection. When the government gets beat like this it's a rejection. It doesn't meant there aren't other reasons. But certainly a rejection of the government.

Liberals + 39 in Quebec. NDP -51. That tells the story.

    Really? No jk unknown poster:)
  15. If a good GM gets 2 coaches, a good coach should get 2 sets of co-ordinators. I'm all for giving OSH until the offseason to get rid of Bellefeuille. Richie Hall's appointment as DC has been a success, so let's see what OSH can do when given the opportunity for a new OC, and the knowledge that this decision will ultimately be a big factor in his future as HC here in Winnipeg.

I get that Edmonton and Ottawa have become successful in 2 years. But the Bombers under O'Shea have NOT been a train wreck. They've improved. The organization and how players feel about Winnipeg as a destination has improved. They're in a similar spot to Lapo's Bombers of 2010 where we've been good enough to lose close games lately. When taking over a REALLY BAD organization, can any of you calling for OSH's head realistically think that 2 years is enough time? Maybe if Willy doesn't get hurt, the Bombers are 8-8 right now, but regardless, this was a massive turnaround.

Canning an HC (and possibly a GM) makes no sense to me after 2 progressive years.

    ahhh...the voice of reason!
Yeah we keep progressing like this we should hit 4 wins next year.......
  16. Is there any reason to believe that O'shea's roster management will improve after this season? Nine linebackers and one backup receiver!? You think he would have learned by season 2. What makes anyone thinks he will improve his decision-making in season 3? It shouldn't take that long.

You mentioned 9 linebackers (listed) and 1 backup receiver. Explain why this was a roster management no no. Serious question.
Cause our offense sucks and we are playing Stoudemire as one of our REC? Like WTF?
  17. Yeah wonderful treatment of women in Muslim culture and we should embrace it because....it's their culture? Because the women are either fearful, manipulated or brought up to accept that they are not equal? Sorry I disagree strongly.

This isn't the issue in question but clearly we must explain how women are viewed in that culture before some people here will understand why "it's their beliefs so it's ok" doesn't fly.

    http://freebeacon.com/culture/the-truth-about-women-in-the-middle-east/

In 2012, Mona Eltahawy published an essay in Foreign Policy magazine, ‘Why Do They Hate Us?,’ that drew attention to the unequal and precarious position of women in the Middle East and North Africa. Eltahawy argued that in the Muslim world women are treated like animals by men who disdain and fear them. In the wake of the Arab Spring, she called for a shift in focus from political leaders who oppress their citizens to the men who oppress women in the streets and at home. Her words prompted angry responses from many on the Left who are loath to blame one religion or culture for this miserable state of affairs.

Eltahawy’s new book, Headscarves and Hymens: Why the Middle East Needs a Sexual Revolution, expands this theme. The book more thoroughly addresses the reality of women’s lives in the Muslim world and advocates for a sexual revolution there. Combining her own experiences growing up in Egypt with examples of injustices across numerous countries in the region, Eltahawy paints a picture of a world that is dangerous and unjust for women, and covers issues such as veiling, virginity, rape, harassment, domestic abuse, and equal representation before the law.

Veiling has received the most attention in the West, and especially France, where it has been hotly debated. The policy of laïcité has led to the banning of veiling in government buildings there, including schools. Eltahawy’s own decision to veil came as a teenager, when, while on the hajj, she was repeatedly groped by strangers. Her shock and horror led her to believe that if she covered herself she would be protected from sexual harassment. As she got older she convinced herself she was expressing her feminist right to choose the veil.

Today she sees this logic for what it is: “To claim that the wearing of the niqab is a feminist issue is to turn feminism on its head.” She points out that for many women throughout the world, veiling is not a real choice because of pressure and threats from family, friends, regimes and strangers on the streets.

But the issue of veiling in the Muslim world often overshadows the far more serious problems of harassment, rape, and domestic abuse. According to a UN report, 99.3 percent of Egyptian women reported being sexually harassed, with 96.5 percent saying the harassment included physical contact. Eltahawy calls the public space “uniquely dangerous” for women in the Middle East. This was demonstrated during the Arab Spring protests in Cairo’s Tahrir Square when numerous women, including Eltahawy, reported being sexually assaulted both by military officials as well as by fellow protestors.

In this way, women are pushed from public spaces into the home, allegedly for their own protection. But it is here that they often face the most danger. More than 40 percent of women from Egypt, Tunisia and Lebanon—purportedly the most progressive states in the region—have reported being victims of violence in the home. Because personal status laws tend to be based on sharia in these countries, women often face difficulties having charges brought against their spouses. At the time of this writing, only Jordan, Mauritania, and Tunisia have laws that address domestic violence, although Eltahawy argues that they are rarely enforced.

Eltahawy describes the horrifying reality in the Middle East, where rape victims are often more stigmatized than rapists, and where women can be punished as “fornicators” under the zina, the part of Islamic law that has to do with unlawful sexual intercourse. Perhaps most upsetting is the prevalence of rape victims who are persuaded to marry their rapist. This is done so the rapist avoids facing charges, and the woman can restore honor to her family by keeping the loss of her virginity linked to only one man. This puts women in the often dangerous position of either marrying the man who attacked them or facing honor crimes, possibly murder, at the hands of family members.

Yeah your right this is what Harper was worried about.
  18. Lol BB1. I would say women having zero choice one subject makes the face/body covering an oppressive thing.

Personally I believe in equality. You don't have to agree though. That's your right. Gullible is believing in the big bad conservative boogeyman.

No gullible is believing that the big bad conservative boogeyman actually give a rats ass about equality.
  19. I never claimed to be an expert on those same things so let's not hold my opinion up as more deserving to tear down because you think I think im an expert.

It's common sense to me. If it's not common sense to you I guess that's what they call a difference of opinion. But you think your position is weightier. And that's fine.

Why would the government appeal a decision they would likely lose? Because they feel strongly about it. Id wager most appeals are losses. Why do people Appral anything? Bexajse tjeu feel strongly about it. becaude they feel its worth trying. Because they feel it's worth generating public discussion.

You can disagree with the government. That's your right. Majority of Canadians seem to agree on this issue. But it's the governments right to appeal and to take forth an issue they feel strongly about. That's their role as government.

    Governments are elected. Judges aren't.

If also called this whole thing a red herring anyway. It's not nearly worth the print it's getting. And I believe strongly in the rights of people to do as they please. But I think the government is correct on this issue and that is taking a stand against offensive cultural practices and symbols of oppression that should not be supported in Canada.

    You're free to disagree.

Symbols of oppression? Listen if I believed you were gullible enough to fall for that I would just shake my head and move on.Its just another ploy by a party to win an election and you know it.
  20. The only problem with O'Shea is that he has too much confidence in players who are a net negative on the team. The killers this year are Stoudermire, Hajrullahu, Picard and Neufeld. Put competent players in those roles and the Bombers are easily .500 and probably nipping Calgary's heels as they have two wins on us they don't deserve.

Well if that's his ONLY problem it's still huge cause this is pro ball and you go with players if they produce period. BTW you can throw in holding on to a subpar OC as well which falls on MOS.
