I’d ask which game, but since you could pick one of dozens and it would be true, that would tell you it wasn’t just that game.

And yet I read that and the anger builds. How could a father be so negligent to his child who is already without a mother? How can protesters jeer health care workers trying to save lives who are already taxed to their physical, mental, and emotional limits? We are all tired of COVID, yet the salvation we were all praying for last year in the form of a vaccine comes (and is FREE!) so we could return to some sort of normalcy, and now you boycott that? Why? So you won’t be seen as a sheep bending to the will of a government trying to protect you? So you won’t have to swallow your pride and admit your foolishness in buying into demonstrably false information? Is your ego so fragile that you are willing to bet your life and endanger others’ lives in the process, all for the sake of not taking a small needle in the arm? Don’t know what’s in the vaccine, but are willing to down hydroxychloroquine or Ivermectin without asking what is in those, or why a typhoid drug or horse dewormer seems like an odd choice to fight COVID? All this to prove you as one person are more important than your government and your individual rights count more than everyone else’s? I can shrug off ignorance if someone is willing to be educated. I can stomach arrogance if it can be backed up. But the combination of the two is my least favourite personality flaw in people, and when it threatens to harm others and prolong this pandemic, my empathy is also NOT a limitless supply, and my tank is running dry right now, especially for those protesters who go out of their way to obstruct those trying to heal or choosing to abide by mask regulations.

Curious why you see AC as overrated. The all-time passing yardage mark might be a misleading thing that is overhyped and leads to the “not as good as it would suggest” mentality, but he was a 3 time MOP, went over 5,000 yards 7 times, topping out at over 6,000 once with another 3 over 5,500, played 20 seasons, holds most of the all-time records in the regular season and playoffs, went to a record 8 Grey Cups and won 3 as a QB. And in that vein, although he is an all-time favourite around here, I would say Dunigan could slide into overrated territory. Was second-best to Flutie in his prime, and had a small window of super high success with a lot of injury issues. Lots of flash and swagger but the numbers and wins don’t match up to the other all-time greats.

Flutie once said early on (after his first year in BC) that he couldn’t believe how much of an advantage the offence had, with the bigger field, unlimited pre-snap motion, and the yard off the ball. Said that it was such an unfair advantage for QBs compared to the NFL that unless he made a mistake he felt like defences really had no chance to stop a drive because of the way the game was set up. Then he went out and threw for 6600 yards next year. The Gretzky comparison is apt, since he saw the game differently than everyone else and how to exploit it the best. It has been said by many older than I that the debate about greatest CFLer comes down to him and Jackie Parker, who I never saw play but can’t imagine being so much better than everyone else that he draws Flutie comparisons. As for Reilly in his prime, it to me is a coin flip between him and Bo Levi as the best (at their peaks Reilly has more yards, Bo more wins and MOP awards, TDs are a toss-up) but even going back 10 years Calvillo produced at a higher level and for longer than either of them. Add in Moon and Brock and I would not see Reilly as anything that special compared to those guys.

I do requests: Bo - hospital ward Maier adored. But ‘til points scored Quick Six horse is bored or Bo’s return is due Maier’s aim true, but 1 win? Quick Six will be glue

And there were more eyeballs on the halftime show than there were at most points of the game. “Right and wrong” reasons are a matter of personal preference. I love the pre-game chats with Bob, Ed and Doug, but others will want more flash and dash, and the most popular sporting events who are gaining new audiences are catering more to that younger demographic with the bells and whistles.
-
Like it or not, a new generation of fans is growing up loving that NFL model and convinced that the CFL is a boring game. And just highlighting a CFL game with no bells and whistles is not going to draw in new young fans.

TSN would own the rights to the game both on TV and radio, as it has been for a long time. Local broadcasters do not get to broadcast that game. And they would have no say on their personnel being included or excluded on a broadcast crew. So unless something drastic changed in the standard operating procedure in 2019, Bauming’s lack of access to the sidelines would have had zero to do with a Bomber boycott and would simply be TSN employing their own crew. Besides, If CJOB had any pull to insert a member of their crew, Bob Irving certainly would have been plugged in as play-by-play voice.

Wishing him a speedy and full recovery.

Brown has improved by leaps and bounds since he started. Once he got past the penchant for using multi syllable words (often mangled and sometimes not a real word) to prove how smart he was, he got a ton better. Great balance with Bob Irving, and he offers excellent insight that is relatable to the newbie fan but does not talk down to the more experienced fan. As for Irving, I want to tread lightly here since he is still the best in the business, but has anyone noticed a drop-off in his calls? It is nit-picking since he has set such a high bar that any error will be magnified in his instance, but I have noticed that he mis-identifies players more than in the past. Could simply be just an eyesight thing, but that is still a vital tool for a play-by-play guy and is an issue to address. I hope that if a succession plan is in place, now that Bob is on the other side of 70, that it is handled like the Blue Jay radio broadcasts were, where they brought in a new PBP guy to work beside Jerry Howarth and do a couple of middle innings at first, then expand to more and more work over time. Bob deserves to go out on his own time, but I would prefer to see a transition over time rather than just cutting him out and bringing in a new voice cold (even if it is someone already in house like Kelly Moore or Geoff Currier).

I would suspect the double vax requirement and proof of same to enter IG Field had a lot to do with that. And for all the Rider fans who were asking, no, having Ivermectin in your system was not a suitable alternative. That likely took out a ton of Saskatchewan attendance candidates. -

This is also what happens when you have a good public education system and your religious dogma does not treat sex as a sin and dictate public policy. The USA does not have either of those things.

With $5.00 beers before the game and the return of the pre-game tailgate, I’m assuming those two sentences are not necessarily connected. -
Steak bites please!

I am eliminated but I want to see just how bad I can be while trying to legitimately make picks. Aiming for an 0-16 season, watch me now get 11 straight winners. Picking Andrew Harris this week.

Not just running the world. Idiots are everywhere in all walks of life, and always have been. It’s just that 24/7 instant information in a digital world has made them more visible, and the advent of social media has given them a platform to expose and share stupidity with everyone cares or doesn’t car to listen. The cynicism is strong with this one today.

So $100 times 1.43 million unvaccinated Albertans equals $143,000,000 of taxpayer money to bribe antivaxxers. But hey, let’s cut wages to nurses by 3%. There’s pretty much all of me that wants them not allowed into hospitals eating up bed space for other patients who will at least try to take care of themselves. That or bill them fully for their stay so they aren’t a drain on our publicly funded health care system. I am out of compassion for those who have no compassion for others themselves.

2021 Off-season: State of the Jets

Could also have put this in the “Good news” thread. Just a reminder that when we dump on players, there are human beings behind the jersey. And also be mindful that this was done without fanfare or publicity, only came to light by an independent 3rd party. -

If you feel like you have no blocking, you will likely be more hesitant to just run full bore into 3 or 4 tacklers. I am not a fan of his hesitancy, but there have been returns where he has zero help in front of him. I don’t think it’s an either/or situation, and both he and his blocking have contributed to the situation so far. But unlike when Andrew Harris runs slowly behind his line waiting for the blocks to develop and then exploding through the hole, I rarely see returns being able to work the same way. Nelson seems to lack the explosive acceleration Grant has, but so far he is protecting the ball and getting positive yards if not the big return pretty much every time. A lot like Pail Bennett back in the day.
