US senator from Mississippi 'fed up' with masks contracts COVID The state of Mississippi has the one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country, and is averaging over 3500 new coronavirus cases per day. That number just went up. U.S. Senator Roger Wicker, 70, Mississippi's senior senator and a Republican, just contracted COVID. He has been vaccinated, his office said in a statement. Wicker infamously was captured on camera on a Delta flight refusing to wear a mask last year. He has been an ardent anti-masker. Feds 'deliberately targeted' BLM protesters on orders from Trump and Barr: report The Justice Department "deliberately targeted" supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement with harsh prosecutions at the "express direction" of former President Donald Trump and former Attorney General Bill Barr, according to a new report from the advocacy group Movement for Black Lives. The report detailed 326 criminal cases brought by federal prosecutors related to last year's protests following the police killings of George Floyd in Minneapolis and Breonna Taylor in Louisville. Federal prosecutors aggressively sought jurisdiction over the cases even though in more than 92% of the cases there were equivalent state-level charges that could have been brought instead, according to a data analysis by the Creating Law Enforcement Accountability & Responsibility (CLEAR) clinic at the City University of New York School of Law. Federal prosecutions result in conviction at much higher rates than state charges and nearly 90% of federal charges filed against protesters carried stiffer penalties than equivalent state charges. Federal prosecutors "exploited the expansive federal criminal code" to assert jurisdiction over cases that "bore no federal interest," the report said. Prosecutors often cited federal jurisdiction in alleged offenses that happened near federal property, affected property that receives federal funding, or had some tenuous connection to interstate commerce. "The government greatly exaggerated the threat of violence" from protesters, the report said, noting that the "vast majority" of charges were for nonviolent offenses or restricted to property destruction. Prosecutors in more than 25% of cases also "stacked" charges against defendants with multiple redundant charges stemming from the same act to increase potential sentences or coerce guilty pleas, the report said. The only two violent charges related to murder were brought against counter-protesters who were reportedly members of the far-right Boogaloo Bois. It doesn't work that way. We are all acountable for what we have said and done, particularly when it bears on our employment.

She is personable and presents well on camera, but she is the architect of the eviscerated health care system today. I don't know how she is going to explain that away.

Ummm... extreme leftists like those who bomb abortion clinics, try to overthrow a democratically elected government, defy common-sense vaccination protocols, threaten minorities and so forth?

There will always be those who find thinking uncomfortable and difficult, so are willing to delegate their thinking and believing to others who promise certainty for the small price of unquestioning compliance.

GOP Rep. Mo Brooks issues statement against 'dictatorial Socialism' amid apparent right-wing bomb threat As law enforcement was working to defuse a bomb threat outside the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., on Thursday afternoon, Alabama Republican Rep. Mo Brooks shared an incendiary statement that seemed to express sympathy for the suspect. U.S. Capitol Police identified the suspect as Floyd Roy Roseberry, a North Carolina man, when he was taken into custody around the time of Brooks' statement. The situation began when the man identified as Roseberry parked his truck on the sidewalk in front of the building and began issuing threats, claiming to have a bomb and explosive materials. Social media videos appeared to show Roseberry at the location with a potentially explosive device, making direct threats to President Joe Biden. Facebook appeared to take down the page where the video was stream during the hours-long standoff with police, but multiple reports detailed the information it contained. It showed Roseberry as a Trump supporter demanding that Democrats "step down," according to the Daily Beast, and previous videos reportedly showed him protesting Biden's 2020 victory. "The revolution's on. It's here, it's today," he said. He tried to claim that his actions had "nothing to do with politics," the Beast reported, adding that, "I don't care if Donald Trump ever become president again." But he also said at one point that he thinks Trump will be reinstated and said: " I think y'all Democrats need to step down." He hoped to get a pardon from Trump. GOP Rep. Incoming ‘Jeopardy!’ Host Mike Richards Apologizes For Sexist Remarks Newly minted “Jeopardy!” host Mike Richards issued an apology Wednesday night for sexist, crass remarks about women he made on a former podcast, the latest bout of controversy following his coronation as the new face of the beloved game show. The mea culpa came shortly after The Ringer published details from the podcast, called “The Randumb Show,” that Richards hosted from 2013 to 2014 while he was producing “The Price Is Right.” In episodes reviewed by the site, Richards at times called his co-host, Beth Triffon, a “booth ho” and “booth ****” after she spoke about working as a model at a trade show. In others, he compared women’s Halloween costumes as prostitute outfits, commented on former female co-workers’ weight and appearance, and disparaged Triffon’s economic status. Richards said the comments were “a terribly embarrassing moment of misjudgment, thoughtlessness, and insensitivity from nearly a decade ago.” All episodes of the show were wiped from the Internet on Tuesday after The Ringer asked about his remarks. As COVID-19 Cases Soar, More Hospitals Report ICUs Nearing Capacity, With Worst To Come Hospitals across the nation are buckling under the surge in COVID-19 infections linked to the highly transmissible delta variant of the coronavirus, with some states reporting their intensive care units are rapidly filling with patients, much like winter’s wave of cases before vaccines were readily accessible. More than a quarter of the nation’s ICU beds in use are currently occupied by COVID-19 patients, according to figures maintained by the Department of Health and Human Services. But an increasing number of states have said their intensive care wards are reaching capacity, with 1 in 5 ICUs at or over 95% full nationwide, The New York Times reported. Public health officials from Hawaii to Mississippi, from Oregon to Texas have portended bleak statistics in the coming weeks, saying hospitalizations are already higher now than they were in January. Alabama said Tuesday it was out of ICU beds and was actually at “negative” capacity, and Oregon said hospitalizations rose 11% overnight as new cases soared. “We’ve never been here before,” Dr. Don Williamson, president of the Alabama Hospital Association, told the local NBC affiliate. “We are in truly now in uncharted territory in terms of our ICU bed capacity.”

No guarantee with swiping the card, either. A few days ago I was at the Costco gas bar and the driver ahead of me pulled into the spot, and took an agonizingly long time to a) find the necessary card b) decide how and where to tap c) wait for the display to change d) navigate through the menu e) decide which fuel to opt for d) confirm that the pump was ready f) remove the hose and insert it g) hold the handle instead of setting the automatic latch h) peer at the display to ensure that the correct amount of fuel had been dispensed i) take severa; attempts to put the hose back in the cradle properly k) read the printout carefully l) find the keys, get in and FINALLY drive off.

Harris has been an all-star and will probably be so again. But its not as if he tore up the field in every game- there were games where he was the center of attention by the opposing defence and his production suffered.

Family of Man Killed by Kyle Rittenhouse Sues Kenosha Cops -Getty The family of one of the men killed by Kyle Rittenhouse amid protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin, last year has filed a lawsuit against police, the Associated Press reports. The family of Anthony Huber, who prosecutors say was fatally shot by Rittenhouse, alleges that police “conspired with” and enabled “armed vigilantes” like Rittenhouse by siding with them over protesters and allowing them to roam freely. Huber, 26, was fatally shot while trying to wrestle Rittenhouse’s rifle away from him. Rittenhouse, who was 17 at the time and has claimed self-defense, was charged with reckless homicide and intentional homicide, endangering safety, and criminal possession of a weapon as a minor. Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, was also fatally shot by Rittenhouse, as was Gaige Grosskreutz, who survived, prosecutors say. Huber’s family is seeking damages from Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth; Daniel Miskinis, the former City of Kenosha police chief; Eric Larsen, the city’s acting police chief; and other officers. “After he had killed and maimed multiple individuals, Kyle Rittenhouse walked up to a dozen Kenosha police officers, assault rifle in hand, with crowds yelling that he had just killed innocent people,” Anand Swaminathan, the attorney for the family, told the AP. “What did the police do? They spoke to him and let him walk away.” Family of Man Killed by Kyle Rittenhouse Sues Kenosha Cops (thedailybeast.com)

Christian Radio Host Who Called Vaccine ‘Government Control’ Dies of COVID-19 A religious radio broadcaster who spread disinformation about the coronavirus vaccines was killed by the virus Sunday. Dr. Jimmy DeYoung Sr. had been admitted to the hospital Aug. 7 with COVID-19 complications, according to his wife Judy, who also contracted the virus. In February, DeYoung published an interview promoting the conspiracy theories that the Pfizer vaccine would make women sterile and that world governments were using the virus and vaccine to centralize power. DeYoung’s guest at the time, Sam Rohrer, said that very few people who were infected lost their lives, calling the vaccine only a “purported solution” and “not truly a vaccine.” Both host and guest encouraged listeners to read conspiracy-minded materials on the coronavirus vaccine, with DeYoung asking, “Could this vaccine be another form of government control of the people?” DeYoung’s daughter Jodi wrote of his death on Facebook, “God has called a faithful servant home. Dr Jimmy DeYoung passed away early this morning at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga.” His show, “Prophecy Today,” aired daily. Before focusing on Christian prophecy, DeYoung worked as a journalist in Israel. DeYoung is one of a number of public figures who have died of COVID-19 in recent months after telling their audiences to refuse the jab. Texas Gov. Abbott tests positive for COVID after speaking to a packed house Governor Greg Abbott announced Tuesday he has tested positive for COVID-19, the potentially deadly disease caused by the novel coronavirus. The Texas Republican has steadfastly refused to lift his anti-science ban on mask and vaccine mandates. Texas is among the worst states for coronavirus currently, with an extremely high caseload and low vaccination rate. Abbott reportedly has been vaccinated, and his office says he is tested daily. Gov. Abbott spoke to a packed house Monday night of about 600 people, where few wore masks and social distancing was non-existent. https://t.co/MfBe5FIKbY — The Recount (@The Recount) 1629233933.0
