Unfortunately, Adams did not shine like a premier receiver should. His drops immediately cut off any offensive drive and put any QB in an unenviable position. We don’t have quite the team that can recover from those.

Masoli suffered from a couple of drops by his receivers and he ended up getting a TD and field goal in the final minutes of the game to win it.  If Hamilton is able to overcome some questionable drops why can't the Bombers?  Is the talent on the Bombers inferior to that of hamilton's?

  2. So Nichols said he went through 4 or 5 reads and receivers were not open.  On the post game show they were going over the stats.  Nichols was 16-23 on passes of 5 yards or less and 4 of 11 on passes of 10 yards or more.  I think it is safe to say it isn't on lapo that the team is incapable of stringing together first downs thanks to the conservative passing.  Nichols is not capable at this point of finding an open receiver 10 yards down the field

But there were some bad drops too.

Adams did not play very well, and dropped balls that I think he should have caught.

Edmonton guys routinely make those catches. Ditto Calgary receivers.

Really The only wideout we have that is consistent and reliable at getting open, and catching the ball, is Dressler.

Every team faces drops from their receivers yet they are still able to battle through it and post respectable numbers and win the game.  Look at Masoli the other day.  there were two times late in the game that a well-thrown pass went off the receivers facemask.  The receivers misjudged the throws.  The second one with the wide open receiver has particularly egregious.  Yet, on the very next play Masoli found another receiver for the TD.  Shortly after he marched his team down the field for the winning field goal.  When the receivers didn't come through in the clutch, he still managed to drive his team down the field.  At this point, nichols is playing so poorly that a few dropped balls breaks the offense.

I’m not going to freak out and join the “fire everyone” bandwagon but O’Shea and Walters need to have a long hard talk about whether Nichols is the future of this club.

Their final determination will decide for me one way or another whether I have faith in them.

Damn.  Your mind is made up about Matt Nichols.  No return to 2016/first half of 2017 form, huh?

What about this season? What's with all the long pass attempts lately? That **** clearly isn't working, so why do it? Why not go back to what worked in the past?

Nichols needs to be way better in his execution but the play-calling lately has been utter trash.

O-line is not as good and Nichols has zero escapability.  The poor passes are mostly on Nichols, not Lapo....never had a great long ball but it is worse this year.  Nichols has options on every play...it's not a set play to throw the ball 5 or 6 yards when the team needs 9.  He has options out there beyond the first down marker, but he either doesn't want to make those passes or he is incapable of it.

Truth to that. Once you pull Nichols while he is healthy don't expect to see the best of Nichols here again.

Why?  Because he is so sensitive?  His play this year warrants being pulled and if he can't handle it he is not mentally tough.

We have probably already seen the best of Nichols thanks to a dominant O-line in 2016-17.

  7. Funny reading that article a few days ago in which Hall said the defense was heading in the right direction.  Anytime the Bombers face a good QB it seems like an automatic 350+ passing yards given up by the defense.  Mitchell just set a personal record with over 450 passing yards.  Sure doesn't seem like it's heading in the right direction.

How can Reilly get away with a  skyball like the TD right now to Mitchell? He never even saw him. Nichols does that & it's a 120 yard pick 6.  I guess the old adage that winners find ways to win & losers find ways to lose is true.

Reilly gets the ball there a lot faster than Nichols.  That's what a strong arm will do.

Tom's 65 & he's never coming here. He's an NFL lifer as a coach & why not? The money is phenomenal. I'd be a lifer too if I could coach Ben Roethlesberger & Aaron Rodgers & for an added treat win Super Bowls.  I do wish we'd honour Tom, though. He left after the 1987 season because of a contract disagreement with GM Cal Murphy. The first Bomber qb to win a GC after Ken Ploen & 22 years deserves our thanks.

It would have been interesting to find out what he wanted per year vs. what Cal offered.  Why didn't he sign with another team eventually?

It's ******* incredible watching our fan base turn on Nichols after the kind of rope given to Willy. It's disgusting and also sad to see how bad our fans are. The loss is just one game... but to see my own city and fans turn into rider fans like this is genuinely jarring.

Nichols drop off in performance goes back to the last third or so of the 2017 season.  We are talking nearly a year at this point.  It's not the case of a QB having one or two average/poor games.

Let's see what happens over the next month.  If the poor performances continue, I suspect we have missed an opportunity in 2018 for a legit Grey Cup run.

That has to change for sure - but there's more to it than that. Our scouts, how many import receivers have we found? O'Shea's loyalty to players and his coaching staff is problematic, and Lapo's inability to adjust or to use situational play calling is also an issue. Our offence should not be so fragile to look like the mess it does when Dressler is out of the lineup, and when Harris is contained we have no ability whatsoever to counter that.

They did bring in that scout this year who is highly regarded.  Can't remember his name...

Maybe it will take another year before his work makes hay.

  12. I'm hopeful we can win 5 more games after presumed losses the next 2 weeks against Calgary and Sasky.  Beat Saskatchewan in the Banjo Bowl, beat Montreal at home, beat Edmonton in one of the two road games, beat Saskatchewan at home, and beat Calgary at home (probably clinched first place by then so hopefully they only play their starters for the first half).

  13. Nichols mostly average/mediocre play extends back to the second half of last season.  Plenty of average games last year.  He was clearly outplayed by Rielly in last year's playoff game getting a good chunk of his passing yards in the final 11 minutes when the Bombers were down by 23 points to Edmonton (playing a prevent defense).

Nichols has not had one excellent game this year.  If the Bombers had an elite defense, they would have a shot at a Grey Cup with an average QB ie. 1990 Bomber team with Tom Burgess.  However, this game is yet another example that is not the case.  The defense is mediocre against everyone but the worst teams and will likely continue to be for the rest of the season with several weak spots (Fogg and Loffler) and a defensive coordinator who will not be fired until the end of the season...so Nichols will have to improve substantially for this team to have a shot at winning a playoff game.

For multiple shows you would get a discount.  So if a guy was $500 US per shot but you had 20 shows? It’s a lot less.

Even if you book someone for 2 or 3 shows you can usually get a deal.  Especially for talent that isn’t working a lot.   And I’d tou can give them Monday-wednesday shows that’s great cause those are generally not big days or bookings.

We used to book big names on Thursday’s a lot and they loved it because they always had froday and Saturday so if they could get in and out of Winnipeg for a quick Thursday booking it was a bonus.

Yes, that is what I was thinking.  I guess Roberts and Simmons would also get free hotel and per diems with that as well staying in all these little, big towns of Western Canada.

ROH is number 2 for sure yes.  they are actually owned by a company (Sinclair) that is larger than WWE but they consider ROH a touring brand and content for their syndication network and dont invest a ton of money.  Hopefully that changes.

Kenny's contract with New Japan expires in late January.  The 30th I believe (or around there).

Thanks for that.  I wonder what the likes of Jake Roberts and Ron Simmons were paid for the series of shows they did for CWE last year and this year?  Is it a per-show basis?  Or are they paid a flat fee for the 20-30 shows they appeared in?  Any ideas?

  16. I watched a bit of RIng of Honor on TV a few months back.  I was impressed by the stage set up and the crowd - big screen where the wrestlers come out, good lighting and the crowd appeared to be a sellout.  Several thousand by the looks of it. I'm not sure as to the location of the show though.  I guess it's the number 2 wrestling promotion in North America now surpassing TNA?

Anyone know how long Kenny Omega is signed to New japan?  Earlier this year I seem to recall rumors of him fulfilling his contract and then either making the move to WWE or remaining in Japan.

  17. Old Stadium - if you parked for free at Polo Park or for $3 - $5 at one of the many lots nearby and realize it will take you 20-30 min. to get out of the parking lot, you can go to one of the many restaurants/lounges nearby and half a bite to eat/drink.  When you get back to your vehicle 30 min later traffic has cleared out and getting home is easy peasy.

New stadium - if you are one of the 5,000 folks parked at the university for the tidy sum of $20 and do not want to spend a half an hour getting out of the parkades and are hungry you have to walk 20 minutes to the nearest restaurant, then 20 minutes back to your vehicle after you have eaten.

This is an example of one of the little inconveniences that have turned people off from attending games at the new stadium.  Prices are playing a factor as well.  $99 for tickets between the 20 yard line and goal line that remain largely unsold for most games...same with the $70 seats in the corner end zones.  Concession prices - ie. bottle of pepsi that was $3.50 during the last year at the old stadium increased to $5 in the first year at the new stadium and is now $6 or $6.50.  To his credit, Wade hasn't completely turned a blind eye to this by offering family packs and student packs for single games and  season tickets and some food packages but there is more work that needs to be done.
