  1. I'm sure a big chunk of those fans are driving in from Calgary for the game. Considering it's only half Stampeder fans at McMahon for games against the Riders, not even a chance. Obviously some, but not many. That's total bullshit. That's why I hate & totally disrespect the Rider fanbase when they post total garbage like this. The Stamps have 24,000 season tickets in a 35.000 seat stadium. So how do nearly 20,000 Rider fans get in? Most of the fans there cheering for the Riders are drunken douchebags. Give me a frigging break. Ok sorry, that was an exaggeration, but they still fill it up a decent bit. Anyhow, there aren't going to be that many Stamps fans in Regina. There will obviously be a few as always, but not "a big chunk". Yeah but when you go to a game in Calgary vs. the Bombers there's a ton of Bomber fans in there too, when the Lions are in town there's a ton of Lions fans. That's just what happens when you are in a city with a large population that has moved there from out of province. The Riders aren't some unique fanbase, especially when it comes to Calgary. Exactly. Through many decades the youth of Saskatchewan fled their family farms to other provinces to gain employment in other provinces. Saskatchewan teetered on the brink of insolvency for the better part of 50 years prior to the last decade. With no other major economy other than farming and no prospect of employment other than driving tractor for minimum wage, Saskatchewanites spread out across the country at a rate only rivaled by Newfoundland. Once in their new homes, they developed a kind of survivor's guilt for leaving and the only sports team from "back home" they could rally their survival guilt around was the Riders. The success of the Rider brand across Canada has more to do with that than anything else. Not wanting to be seen as turncoats by the province that raised them but they ultimately abandoned, they don green and go to games in the hopes that somehow it will rectify the damage that was done by the mass exodus they were a part of. Sad really. In short the Rider's success around the league speaks more to the former sad state of affairs of their home province than it actually does about their football team. Same could probably be said about the high number of Bomber fans that attend games in Alberta. Although, there are far fewer of us, the reasons for attending are about trying to keep allegiances with the provinces left behind.
  2. If he comes cheap...sure why not. Not a priority signing though. As for the Riders interest?? Emry is what exactly? Done? Going to be released? Not coming back this season? Thing with Jasper is that you gotta play him at MLBer. He wouldn't make a very good WIL.
  3. I've been told by someone who coaches football that it was a read option play, and that Marve did make the wrong read. But still.....why a shotgun snap play that has us starting so far behind the line?? That's more wrong than anything Marve did. We've all seen that shotgun play on third and short described on TV as the wrong call, because you've made it third and medium instead. It was a read option play. But with that amount of time left. I don't like the idea of giving a new starting QB an option....run it or throw it. AS in hand the ball off or drop back and toss it. No play action, no read option. The only thing that makes me hesitate calling a run play there is the amount of time left in the game. Otherwise it's a fine call. You need to give your QB options pretty much all the time, but particularly in those late game situations because defenses often guess as to what the offense will do based on their tendencies in that game and defend heavily against certain plays. You also want to call a play that your QB is very comfortable with. It was all kind of a scramble and who knows how it would have played out if Marve had more prep time that week. Probably run a similar option play with a read on one or two receivers pre-snap to see how much cushion they are being given, allowing for a quick hitter to get the first down, or if there is press coverage allowing for a deep shot. The reason for the playcall, as I see it was the following. 1. If the QB gets the edge there is a potential for big yardage. With 24 seconds left it was a short yardage play call with a chance of gaining a big chunk of yardage that was needed due to clock concerns. 2. It is one of our most utilized plays in Marve's short yardage package so he should have had familiarity with the playcall. 3. The Argos had been holding Marshall at bay for most of the 2nd half. 4. Marve has above average running ability. 5. If executed properly it is a high percentage play both ways.
  4. Agree with this... his last few plays you could see that nerves got the best of him. After bye week and some real first team practice, hopefully this changes. Still driving me nuts that we have Marshall and Scott and the ratio flexibility to use both of them and still don't... no ones going to tell me that Pontbriand is a better blocker than Scott. To be expected in his first game. It may not have been the absolute best play call in the world, but it wasn't as bad as some people here are trying to make it sound. We have run out of this formation near the goal line all season with great success.
  5. Hurl has been very good the past 2 games. He struggled to start the season but has really pulled up his socks. Seems to me that our defence is starting to gel as a unit now....that to me was the biggest problem early on this year.
  6. Starting the play under centre gives it no chance to succeed, as Marve was supposed to check on whether the DE crashes to the middle or comes to the backfield. It was Marve's responsibility to choose the option based on what Foley did at the snap. His choice was grossly incorrect. It was not a bad play call...just very poorly executed. If he hands off to Marshall (based on the replay) we get about 3 yards. If Foley crashes to the middle, Marve goes for distance. However, as the ball is snapped Marve needed to make the right decision. Foley did not fake him out, Marve clearly panicked or just disregarded what his eyes should have been telling him.
  7. I don't see Simmons being a player that we shouldn't be able to recruit equally as well for. However, if we were to trade for Simmons, I wouldn't give up more than a neg list prospect for him. He will be released soon and is in the final year of his contract.
  8. I'm not a big fan of crack back blocks. Lots of careers have been ended on the receiving end of them. However, in Laing's case...he is reaping what he sows. Not many guys around that I wish would have their careers ended on a dirty play but Laing is one of them. Poetic justice. Ed Philion and Kuale were the other two that I wouldn't have cried about if it happened to them.
  9. hahaha...hey hey hey....I actually was a quarterback in highschool so I can sling it! I always have to laugh thinking back one night when a bunch of us were drinking at Scandals, and for whatever reason I had my alma mater high school leather football jacket on, which said Q.Back on the sleeve. Quincy Williams looks at it and says "wtf you were a QB in highschool?!?!..damn would have hated to see the size of the rest of your team!" ahhh memories Ha ha Scandals. What a dive. Good times, good times. Oh yes...used to jump between there and strawberry's on many a night...Had some good times there with the likes of Williams, West and Jones, Bovell..David Black..among others Strawberry's....that's where I met my wife.....that's where I met a lot of wives. Did I just go there...I think I did.
  10. I hope they do bring blitz after blitz against Marve and that Bellefeuille moves the pocket.
  11. Did you know something at the time that we didn't?!? Nothing other than knowing that 42 pages of gloating would eventually come back to bite us in the ass .. if it wasn't an embarrassing loss to the "Owen" Riders .. it was going to be something .. karma (it seems) is a *****. Even with a sore Willy we will beat em.
  12. Did you know something at the time that we didn't?!? Nothing other than knowing that 42 pages of gloating would eventually come back to bite us in the ass .. if it wasn't an embarrassing loss to the "Owen" Riders .. it was going to be something .. karma (it seems) is a *****. Looking forward to you guys helping us out of the owen category this year. All bets are off for labor day now with Willy out. Willy would just have guaranteed a sweep of you guys in easy fashion. New QB just means it will be two ugly football games that we will win. I was looking forward to dominating you, now I will have to settle for mere victory. BTW, Your defence is HORRID!!!!!
  13. It would be monumentally stupid to change OCs in the middle of the season, unless you are going to hire from within his own staff. The changes in terminology and new playbook would take weeks to implement and months to master. We would be effectively taking ourselves out of the playoff race by doing so. Wanna see a crap offence? Change OCs and playbooks midseason.
  14. His NFL chances are pretty limited imo.
  15. True enough that there may be more NFL interest in him. Although, not a lot was shown in the offseason except by the Colts, who if he were in their future plans would have just kept him. Almost zero chance he goes back to the Colts. They waived him, they didn't have to waive him. He's done there....and as I stated, they were the only NFL suitors for him in the offseason. Heenan may not sign a contract in the next month with a CFL club, but if that phone doesn't ring by then, I would guess he will be happy to resume his CFL career as probably the highest paid O Lineman in the league.
  16. Yes, it is too bad for him. Having the opportunity to go to the NFL, and more importantly leave Saskatchewan, would have been a life changer. He still has the opportunity to accomplish half of that equation though. I would think whoever gets him will have to pay very, very handsomely though. Rumor in the offseason was that Big Ben was not willing to give Saskatchewan the home town discount and will be open to offers.
  17. It seems Ben Heenan has been waived by the Colts after a torn meniscus that will keep him out 4-6 weeks. Seems that a big fish could be returning to the CFL. Do we go after him?
  18. The only way that Taman doesn't start parting with draft picks for aging vets and rentals is if the board guarantees him his job next year. Taman isn't stupid, and he knows that it wouldn't be the right thing to do right now, but more than anything in this world Taman is a survivor. He will trade whatever it takes to get to the magic number of wins he thinks will assure him that he keeps his job. Anyone remember the 1st rounder for Zeke Moreno for half a season trade. Don't ever kid yourself....the first rounders are in play.
  19. I think his thought bubble went more like this..... " My team is crap, my season and maybe career is over.....so why is this piece of corn in my teeth bothering me so much right now?"
  20. 10 - number of sisters in a Saskatchewan house 4- combined tooth total ....or it could be something else I guess.
  21. I really want to know how the heck his family got that name. Did his ancestors hail from Sherwood Forest?
  22. One more...How often to him and Taman get drunk and wrestle in the nude? why would they need to be drunk? It's not required, but it's more fun that way. I sure hope you are not speaking from experience. If so, please don't feel the need to regale us with stories of experimentation in college. Times were simpler then...love was free....and all that jazz. Just kidding Gbill.....you kinda walked yourself into that one.
  23. They don't get any cuter either. I am, of course, referring to their fans.
  24. He's been in the NFL for a grand total of 2 seasons. The Argos won't have been happy that Cory Greenwood played 5 in the NFL, but when he finally ran out of opportunities there, they were still happy they drafted him. Just like Montreal is glad they drafted Phillip Blake. Mulamba won't run out of opportunities to find NFL work this year or next. Even if he doesn't make the Packers (he will), there are 31 other teams to call. Eventually there will be some combination of salary, internal politics and competition at his spot that forces him out. And maybe by then he's stashed enough away that risking a debilitating injury for $120k in the CFL isn't worth it to him. Maybe Mulamba shows up in 2017, just in time to fill the hole Westerman creates by exploring free agency. From what I've seen, unless a draft pick strings together a solid 10 year career in the NFL (Israel Idonije), has a career ending injury, or totally becomes disenchanted with football (Danny Watkins), the chances of them making an appearance in the CFL actually seem pretty good. Because most of these guys are still bubble players in the NFL, and most of them want to keep playing football. Bilukidi has used up most of the opportunities he'll get. Having him in a Bomber uniform before the end of next season is quite plausible. Absolutely. Guys sitting on the fringe of the roster or the PR are not generally lifers in the NFL. Every year a new draft class, that NFL GMs are fiercely loyal too, come out and challenge for jobs. Mulumba could be gone this year yet....who knows. Week one of camp standout to being released at the end happens every year in every TC. As the competition gets tougher and the bodies start breaking down, the cream will rise to the top. Maybe Mulumba is part of that cream but maybe he is the beneficiary of a slow start to camp. Who knows. I will say this, he is a fringe NFL player. At some point they will have to pay him more than the league minimum. When that happens, he may be shown the door. Also, like John Chick, if he gets nicked up again and misses time the Packers may just decide to move in another direction even though they like the guy. Just won't want to continue investing in him with no return. So many variables, and so many possibilities, that could bring Mulumba to the CFL. Take a look at a guy like Kyries Hebert. Starter for the Bengals and was their ST ace one year, the team was extremely high on him. A year and a half later he's back in the CFL. The game can pass you by in the blink of an eye if you go in a slump and have a bad few games. Calling Mulumba a wasted pick is really premature.
