So, millions of American workers are going to have their stimulus money running out, facing eviction on rentals, and a wave of job cuts from companies.....and Trump still pushing the payroll tax cut.

I still say the Trump republicans will make the ultimate heel-turn (if that's even possible anymore) and use covid as an excuse to suppress the minority vote in November

I said nothing of masks... I said wash your hands and no face touching. To be honest I think the recirculated air is the ast thing to be concerned with. Common touch points are big, people breathing heavy in your personal space, that kind of thing.

But hey if people wear a mask working out that's fine. I see guys do hard physical labour in full face respirators all the time so why not go to the gym?

No the science actually demonstrates how covid spreads in recirculated air in a contained space - common touch points are far less worry

  3. The quarantine sounds over the top... but I mean football players are literally doing nothing right now and no one is really hiring during the pandemic

So I'm pretty sure I'd still take the chance to earn $$ and maybe secure a spot for next year if some vet decides they don't want to show up

Its football - getting paid to play a game is still better than any 9-5 gig

And I mean if a guy goes to the gym and doesn't touch his face and washes his hands no problem right? But the people who don't do those things are the ones that ruin it for everything. And I believe it is mostly classes causing problems, so likely people in too close contact.

A gym is technically an enclosed area with recirculated ventilation - the heavy breathing makes it one of the highest danger zones...  so you are saying no masks are required in gyms?  Just social distancing?

Unfortunately, the response to to Covid runs the gamut among our communities - from very conscientious about social distancing, travel restrictions, and PPE - to doing almost nothing at all.  The latter has led to some cases of stigmatization.

No worries - lots of space to social distance now that you guys just bought Gimli... 😬

TBD - depends on the contact tracing results.  The person who originally had the virus has recovered.  They were extremely sick for 2 - 3 days, approx. 10 days altogether.

That's good - covid 'should' be less dangerous in the summer so hopefully that science is correct

I just heard a story of a three year old child on life support due to Covid 19 - that 20% can be pretty darn serious.

That is very tragic.  But it is not the 20% that is serious, its the 20% that even show symptoms... the serious cases in canada are more around 0.01%

Every death that occurs is tragic...  my friend's buddy just died of covid at 57 - relatively healthy guy, another friend of a friend died of cancer because he couldn't get treatment during covid, record overdoses in BC are also tragic and several elders in northern communities have passed away while lockdown prevented their family from seeing them.

I definitely hope the colony situation is not serious.

REGINA -- There’s just a week left on the CFL’s imposed July 23 deadline of adopting new COVID-19 protocols, including the negotiations of a collective bargaining agreement with the players.

CFLPA member Brett Lauther said the two sides are not even close to reaching a deal.

“I don’t think it’s shocking to anyone to say right now with where we’re at. At this point, it’s not even the same ball park,” Lauther said.

👁‍🗨 More and more, it looks like the 2020 CFL season is doomed.

I guess it’s just as well...

We heard this last year too though.... and a deal got done

Empire has strong connotations of colonialism and taking over by force. Canada was/is part of the British Empire. If the Eskimos are going to change their name they should use something more benign like Elk.

I was just thinking the same thing ha...  I'm like you can't actually get more colonial than Empire...

I get you are a fan and have your own subjective opinion. I worked in different pro sports, for a number of teams. Don’t confuse what you call skepticism for objective opinion. I am a fan of the CFL, but looking at the challenges that other pro sports are experiencing is cause for concern as to the practicality of this. Ultimately players will decide and early indications are a 6 game schedule maybe a deterrent for some.

    Have a good day, Mike.

You could make the same argument about Quebec in Canada - so what?

Yes and that's why we have a 'western Canada travel bubble' and a northern travel bubble...  in fact, that's my entire point - you can't generalize about different jurisdictions or compare data really

Do you think that Manitoba should be under total lockdown until Quebec gets all covid cases resolved?

I think because so many players are present. They want to keep everyone together to control the situation.

Again... people will do that when they are getting paid $1 million to $10 million a year...  I'd say that has more to do with lawyers and insurance than player health

Would any of us go into quarantine away from our friends and families for almost four months for $9000 CDN.. when the rest of the country is basically open?

Sorry, can't tell me this isn't a man made virus. It's almost too perfect.

But its not too perfect... and trust me, I'm a conspiracy guy.

The problem is our reporting.  Its all over the place but we are comparing data like they are all from the same source...

The 'spike from reopening too soon' in Texas and Florida...?  They weren't reporting covid cases until they were forced to because of hospitalizations

That isn't reopening too early... that's never really closing...

I'll say it again - life should be back to normal in Canada with considerations and precautions taken to protect the vulnerable.... the border should be open to residents of all states that do not have an outbreak

We should be controlling clusters - instead we are hiding in our homes...
