  1. I dont know...Piper is "okay" but not spectacular in my books. Soso is hilarious. So...anyone watching The Leftovers?
  2. I'm not a fan, she is a girl i wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. I like the crazy new yorker girl, can't recall her name but she's got a very obvious voice. The one who was convinced that her and christopher were gonna get married. LOL. Her and Red are pretty interesting characters. Actually, they all are pretty interesting characters. Morelli. She's actually austrailian. I read an article where she talked about the accent she uses. its a combo Boston/New York. I love her too. Im not saying I find Pensetucky attractive, I just really like the character. Very entertaining. And Taryn Manning is great. As far as attractive goes, for sure Morelli. And Pousey. And Soso. lol
  3. Yes they made the conscious decision to make the show more of an ensemble in Season Two. I dont think Season 3 is out until next spring! On a side note, my favourite character is Pensetucky,
  4. Funny you guys mention that. I was also thinking Kane is like an NBA player of the NHL (having nothing to do with being black ofcourse). Throughout the trade rumours my position has always been, if Kane wants to be here, keep him. Hes too good. if he wants to go somewhere else, trade him. We have players that made long term committments to Winnipeg. Ironically Kane did to but we kind of had him over a barrel and it wouldnt surprise me to learn there was a gentleman's agreement with management to explore a trade if Kane requested it. Either way, good player, but he's worn out his welcome. If he scores 40 goals though, all is forgiven.
  5. Well, twitter notwithstanding, some of the "rumours" that have been grounded in at least some level of accuracy have been documented. This isnt a grand conspiracy amongst all Jets fans and media to discredit Evander Kane. There's usually fire where there's smoke even if the stories are exaggerated. I always thought the running out on tabs was a weird story because I'd assume he gets comped a lot but the real story as I heard it was he'd complain until his meals were comped not "run out" on them. But rather than re-hash all the stories, we know there is some truth to some of them and its not because of how he deals with the media or race. Look at Buff. He generally declines media interviews AND was busted on a DUI. I think the media covered that story very fairly and I think the public at large wanted to forgive and forget. And its not just because Buff is a great player because Lord knows hes had his issues. Kane just doesnt come across very likeable. He absolutely threw Noel under the bus which was no class at all. And he knew exactly what he was doing in answering "do you want to be a Winnipeg Jet". I think Jets fans will forgive a lot but a player not wanting to be here and/or not giving the effort we expect will get you piled on pretty quickly. Ethnicity has nothing to do with it, despite the existence obviously of some dispicable racists.
  6. I think the reason the Jets didnt make a stronger effort on Heatley is his speed. Jets are a speed game. But I would have been fine if they signed this deal. He's talented enough to not be a liability and with good line-mates, I would not be surprised to see him chip in 20 goals. That said, I'd have have Peter Meuller.
  7. If Kane is smart, he puts together a career performance on this ice this fall if he is, in fact, still with the Jets. If he wants to be traded, he needs to maximize the potential return to the Jets. If he's not going to develop his game, the Jets are probably content to keep him at his current contract. They've shown they are not afraid to scratch him or play him on the third line. he's already hampered trade opportunities with his comments and poor play. If that continues, when he's a free agent in three years, he *will* have offers but they wont be the offers he thinks he deserves. I also agree that the Pens would be ideal for Kane. He wouldnt be able to pull any attitude on a team with Sidney Crosby, he wont feel like he's the star of the show and the talent level there is enough that they'd likely be able to make Kane's style work successfully. He's got a good contract that will be fine for the Pens after this upcoming season. But also, whomever suggested Olli Maatta would be the starting point, I agree. I suggested that awhile back and was ridiculed. Jets will want Top Six Forward, Top prospect, First Round Pick. Or similar value. So if Maatta is on the table, Id suspect the Jets would be interested even though it hamstrings their offense a bit. but id think we'd send back a lower level D and expect a middle six forward and a pick.
  8. Funny you should mention that. The buddy wanted to go to Foody Goody on the weekend, which I didnt approve of (so we didnt go). I wanted to give Royal Fork another try and he refused citing its absolute lack of quality.
  9. Here's the thing.... Forget the losers and the racists. Kane is not picked on by fans. He is not picked on by media. I think he's a young millionaire who was not developed professionally by the thrashers. I think he did whatever he wanted in Atlanta and no one ever batted an eye. He comes to Winnipeg and it's the opposite. I thought the money phone was over blown. But if anything his fellow players should have been mad about that given it was during the lockout. His recent lawsuit has been tested very fairly by the media. I think Kane is smart enough to know exactly what he does. He cannot blame the media when he courts the controversy. Any one thing would likely be glazed over. It's because it's incident after incident. There can be no debate now. Kane does not want to be here. He has clearly asked for a trade. And it's not because of how he's treated by fans or media. It's because he's immature and didn't like the demands of a professional organization. And quite honestly I think he doesn't like the fishbowl that is Winnipeg while also missing the amenities of a bigger city.
  10. Well then. There ya go. Though I still believe they are up against the cap
  11. The steak bites appetizer is pretty hearty for the price too - almost better than the steak entree we had. Exactly. We often joke about just having a salad, steak bites, the free bread and leave.
  12. Maybe a handcuff this year as they only have $5 million left and only have 15 players under contract. But they will be fine moving forward. One of the agents tweeted about Max salary ten years ago and players were making more. So comparatively speaking these are good deals. To be honest if JT was a free agent and wanted $10 million to sign in Winnipeg I wouldn't bat an eye. Hell the jets reportedly offered Stastny $8 million so there ya go.
  13. Good deal for Ducks. They have the depth to use Heatley well too. Could be a comeback year
  14. No kidding. Any excuse to **** on the poor guy. I used to be a big Kane defender but this is totally wrong. Kane isn't picked on. He's underprepared of a microscope because of his antics. He brings it all on himself. Being the player we paid him to be would help too.
  15. That's one of the benefits to bus rapid transit with dedicated roadways. Our transit would then be more flexible with busses going on and off the rapid paths as needed. It's not a bad idea. Ofcourse volume is different. But adding more Double busses might help.
  16. I think Piper's storyline is sort of organically the least interesting. But she's like the viewers proxy leading us through the crazy world. I found her storyline in season one very interesting but perhaps because of how much I liked Taryn Manning's Pensetucky.
  17. I do not find that to be true at all. I find Westwood has a lot of insight and asks some very good questions. He's also always respectful of the counter argument to his position.
  18. he answered the question in a way that he could say was "the truth". he knew what he was being asked and he gave a less than glowing answer. Any player could say "I'm a Jet (or Bruin or whatever) right now" but no one says that. The Girioux incident was pretty bad actually, in how the media handled it. If that was a female cop, is it as funny? If he grabs her breasts, is it still funny? If Kane had done it he would certainly have been raked over the coals but it would be because it was just the latest incident with him. The fact Kane tweeted a picture of a hot girl dressed like a cop and said he hopes she was the one Girioux was groping is actually a very stupid thing to have done but I didnt see a lot of heat on Kane for it.
  19. Some of them have played. Doug Brown, Troy, I think Mitch played NFL and CFL football. Now you have to include Walby. These guys are all members of the Winnipeg media. I think they're all entertaining, and have interesting informed viewpoints. I know nothing about the hockey writers and broadcasters. This sums it up well. Mitch did play. IIRC his career was cut short by a knee injury. Someone else can correct me on that if I'm wrong. Now on to Troy Westwood...my handle says it all. The guy's a absolute idiot that never shuts his mouth. And he still cannot accept that fact that he sucked at kicking and it equally terrible at broadcasting. Opinions are just that but "he sucks" is a pretty moronic summation.
  20. I've certainly missed Lawless since he's been on vacation. The print guys have a tough job getting people to buy a newspaper in this day and age. If they write about a subject that has been talked to death on the radio and social media the day before the article comes out, who's going to buy it? Print media needs to offer really deep analysis or a different spin. A lot of media seen to find it easier to offer a weird spin or go negative rather than deep analysis. I find most of the radio guys pretty good. Im far more a 1290 listener than a CJOB listener now so I am biased. If there is a major news story or following a game I always want to catch H&L.
  21. Very interesting take on it. Kives' head would explode if he put a positive spin like that on the Bombers' transportation plan. Ottawa seems to be taking the position of "how stupid do you have to be to try and drive to the Stadium" rather than "how stupid do you have to be to expect people not to drive to the stadium". They have only two points of entry just like we do also. My fear for Ottawa is they sound rather confident, much like the Bombers did before the first few games. We're actually quite lucky to have so much parking so close to IGF. Although I maintain that the next hurdle to over-come will be a violent rain storm or bitter cold where you wont have so many people cycling and walking. What they do for November games and the NHL game will be very interesting. Also notice the transportation plan for Ottawa is free for Redblacks fans.
  22. We likely wont get what we should for him mostly because thats the nature of the beast in the NHL. I think most deals that are talked about by fans are far larger than what ends up happening. The difference with Kane is the Jets got him under a pretty good contract which would be attractive to many teams. I think Kane obviously would prefer to be traded but the Jets dont want to unless they get the right offer. That right offer might not present itself until next season when the cap rises. Im not sure Kane can keep his mouth in order long enough though. It would benefit him to shut up because all these things he says only make it more difficult for Chevy to swing a deal. He'd also be wise to play the best hockey of his life this season if he's still a jet, increase his value. He's a smart guy and has a sense of humour but he comes across bratty with his antics. He's smart enough to know that his answers to these questions, his favouriting tweets about being traded to Philly etc only serve to stir the pot. If he's just trying to be funny, he's hurting the Jets.
  23. Give yourself a few episodes of Orange before making a decision. You won't be disappointed. Anyone watch the new HBO series The Leftovers? I watched the premier. I'm intrigued. As a spoiler junkie these mystery shows drive me nuts and if it was network television I doubt I'd invest the time (I've fallen for the mystery TV show hook before and my shows always get cancelled). I have faith in HBO and lack of censorship always helps. Unfortunately Damon Lindelof is show runner which makes me fear the show will degenerate into Lost. I question whether they even know the end game to the mystery yet. But it was suitably slickly produced.
  24. http://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/534566 Winnipeg Jets forward Evander Kane has been the subject of on-and-off trade rumors over the course of the past few seasons, and, while making an appearance on The TEAM 1040 in Vancouver on Tuesday, he was asked point-blank whether he wants to stay with the team. His response was ... somewhat vague. Host: Evander do you want to play for the Winnipeg Jets anymore? Kane: Well, I think I'm a Winnipeg Jet right now, and, you know, there's been speculation and rumors the three years since I got there. So, you know, we'll see what happens and we'll carry on as if I'm a Winnipeg Jet. Host: There’s not a yes in there, and some Jets fans might say, why doesn’t he want to play for us? Or why isn’t he absolutely fully on board for playing for us?….you’re shaking your finger at me. Kane: I’m training hard and getting ready for this season, and last summer I didn’t have a full year of training due to some surgery I had, so I found it really important for me to start training early and get myself in the best shape possible for this season. So that’s my focus. These comments are unlikely to pacify concerned Jets fans in regards to the 22-year-old's future with the team. For now, let's carry on as if Kane is a Jet, shall we? [H/T @mremis] Feature photo courtesy of Reuters/Bruce Fedyck JUNE 21, 12:05 PM Reports: Evander Kane's 'name is out there' on trade market, but return needs to be big Ian McLaren@iancmclarenJune 21, 12:05 PM Evander Kane, the Winnipeg Jets' fourth overall pick in 2009, is a 22-year-old 30-goal scorer, and is locked into a fairly team-friendly $5.25-million a year contract through 2017-18. As such, it would appear that general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff has a significant building block around whom he can form some semblance of a winning team. Yet, as the offseason rumor mill churns, Kane's name is repeatedly mentioned as a potential trade candidate, as confirmed once again Saturday by Gary Lawless of the Free Press. While Lawless contends the talk is "over-hyped right now", he added "his name is out there" and that Kane could indeed be acquired, albeit at a heavy price. Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun echoes a similar sentiment, saying Kane could be had, "but the price tag is going to be steep, as it should be." Wiebe writes that Kane is a rare talent: Thirty goal scorers that can kill penalties, skate like the wind and play a physical game don’t exactly grow on trees. No, Kane hasn’t reached his potential in three seasons with the Jets, but he hasn’t had the benefit of regular linemates or been given much first-unit power-play time either. I remain of the belief that Kane could become a more consistent game-breaker if used frequently on a line with Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler. However, if Cheveldayoff is blown away by an offer, I could see him pulling the trigger. But Kane — who is under contract for a cap-friendly deal of $5.25 million through 2017-18 — won’t be moved for shock value alone. While the very thought of trading a player of Kane's caliber and potential seems odd to some, it's certainly not out of the question (see: Seguin, Tyler). If the Jets feel they can progress as an organization by flipping Kane for two or three key assets, this is a trade that could happen at some point over the summer.
